Citrus Twist Kits | Timeline

Hi everyone!

Ready for my third layout made with the November 2015 Citrus Twist Kits Add-on Kit? :)

So I told you that this kit was a baby themed one. And that I went back to my albums to see what was possibly missing and what I could add to the numerous baby pages I already had. Well, one thing that Maya's album had and that Arielle didn't have yet was a timeline. Do you remember when your baby said mama for the first time? When he/she started sitting up? Crawling? Walking?... I don't. I'm terrible with dates (the only thing I can remember when numbers are involved are birthdays). So I had all the informations written down, somewhere, but not all together and not somewhere I could reach for it easily and definitely not all laid out so that I could see it clearly and quickly. So I knew I needed a timeline for Arielle.

To keep it readable, I kept it from 0-3 years.
I used one large strip of patterned paper to anchor my photos and I used all the white space on the right to write my texte. I typed all the "milestones" I wanted and cut out the strips and I stitched them in place with different colors that i pulled from one of the patterned paper.

I punched out some hearts from that patterned paper that matches my stitching and I placed them strategically next to important milestones and on the circles of the patterned paper.

I wrote my title with a brush pen. I love that pen. it sure took me some practice until I got the hang of it and it's still not perfect, but I think it was a good statement on my layout when I use it. I adhered the label with some foam dots.

Oh and finally I added the date to all three photos because, you know, having to look it up over and over again is annoying!! ;)

Citrus Twist Kits | First time mommy

Hi everyone!

Here's the second page I made with the November 2015 Add-on kit from Citrus Twist Kits.

This page will not go in Arielle's album. It will go in MINE! It's more about how I felt when I became a mom. I have a page that goes more into the everyday life details. This one is more focusing on that exact moment when I became a mom. I look very tired and young on this picture (I had just turned 31 two weeks before) but I love it and I'm happy that it's now in my album and not only on my hard drive.

I'm happy about my title. It's very dimensional and fun.

There's one paper in the kit that is a bunch of images. I cut them all out and I had fun layering them. I added a few stickers and elements from the alphas to give more dimension and interest.

Here you can see some stitching and layering.

All these word stickers are gold foil on white background. To me, stickers always fell like flat and boring. There's no texture in them and them adhere perfectly flat on something (vs die cuts which you can lift and curl a little). So to give them a little extra something, I stitched right through them.

I would encourage you now to go to your picture library and find the pictures that resonate with you. Which ones give you shivers? Print them out (now) and make a page, even if it's a simple one with only a few thoughts scribbled down. It's totally worth it!

Citrus Twist Kits - Chickenpox

Hi everyone!

Trina, the owner of Citrus Twist Kits, asked me to play with the add-on kit this month. :)
It's a baby themed kit so I went down memory lane. It was fun! I could fill up some of the gaps in my daughter's album.

Here's my first layout:

I used a white background, a 5x7 photo that I layered on top of some patterned papers and I added star around it. As simple as can be.

The vellum stars are from 7 Papers while the cardstock star were hand cut in one of the patterned papers that was in the kit. I added some word stickers on top of some of the stars.

The title is really standing out and I love it. These foam alphas are just great! The size is nice, the font is classy and the golden color is great. I used the Maggie Holmes roller stamped to stamp 3 times without reining it.

There is some gold foil on all the word stickers included in the kit (the large white ones and the small pink ones) which makes for a nice unity.

Arielle turned 7 - a crafty pool birthday party

If you follow me on Instagram (if you don't you might want to start today ;)) you'll know already that we celebrated Arielle's 7th birthday this weekend and that I have been working this since a week or two. More like, two. :) Arielle wanted a pool party. I gathered some inspiration on Pinterest and intended to do the cake, the invitations, the goodie bags and a cute table. The party went fast and was pretty and fun! I can walk you through the details a little bit.
Si vous me suivez sur Instagram (et si vous ne me suivez pas déjà, vous voulez pet-être commencer à me suivre aujourd'hui! ;)) vous savez déjà qu'on a célébré les 7 ans d'Arielle en fin de semaine et que j'ai travaillé fort sur cette fête! :) Arielle voulait une fête dans notre piscine. J'ai donc rassemblé des idées sur Pinterest pour lui faire un gâteau, des invitations, des sacs cadeaux et une belle table. Le party a passé pas mal vite et on a eu beaucoup de plaisir. Laissez-moi vous montrer quelques détails.

I was inspired by Wilna Furstenberg's project she once made for Dear Lizzy. I used my Silhouette to cut the shape of the popsicles. I used this design. I mounted them on a popsicle stick that I bought at Michaels and I added gold glitter with some tomboy liquid glue.
Pour les inspirations j'ai été inspirée par un projet que Wilna Furstenberg a fait pour Dear Lizzy. J'ai utilisé ma Silhouette Cameo pour découper les popsicles. J'ai utilisé ce design. J'ai ensuite monté mes popsicles sur des bâtons de popsicles que j'ai trouvé chez Michaels et j'ai ajouté des brillants avec de la colle liquide Tombow. 

I mounted every popsicle on a Project life card from my Dear Lizzy kit (I'm happy I could used these cards because, really, I have way too many in my stash!) and on a glitter cardstock I had used with my Silhouette for a previous project.
J'ai monté chaque popsicle sur une carte Project life de Dear Lizzy (je suis contente d'avoir pu trouver une autre utilité à mes cartes parce que j'en ai tellement!) puis sur une retaille de carton pailletté doré restant d'un autre projet fait avec ma Silhouette.

I finished off every card with some stitching with gold thread and some gold sequins. Easy enough.
J'ai terminé chaque carte avec de la couture doré et des paillette dorées. Facile. 

For the inside, I printed the text with my home printer. The Arielle was made using a font called Heartwell that I got in my big Fontastic Bundle at The Hungry Jpeg. I made my word a mask and I layered it over some watercolor that I had in a digital file (one I use to make some Project Life cards from time to time).
J'ai imprimé l'intérieur avec mon imprimante. Pour le gros Arielle rose j'ai utilisé l'écriture Heartwell qui venait dans mon paquet de polices Fontastic Bundle chez The Hungry Jpeg.

Here are the cards all together. The yellow one was for my neighbors because they have 2 little boys who really don't like pink! :)
Voici toutes les cartes réunies. La carte jaune a été faite pour mes voisins. Ils ont deux petits garçons qui n'aiment vraiment pas le rose. :)

Maybe some of you know this, I decorate cakes for my girls every year. Sometimes I bake them, but most of the time I don't. This year I didn't. I bought it at Publix and it tasted great!! Not too sweet. When I order it, I order 2 tiers. One 6 inches and one 10 inches. I order them covered with butter cream so it's easy after that to just lay my fondant over it.
Il y en a peut-être parmi vous qui savent que je fais des gâteaux. 2 par année pour mes filles. Parfois je les fais moi-même du début à la fin, mais souvent je les commande et je ne fais que les décorer. C'est ce que j,ai fait cette année. Je l'ai commandé à l'épicerie et c'était un bon choix parce qu'il était vraiment bon! Et je me suis évité pas mal de travail!! Quand je commande mon gâteau je commande un 6 pouces et un 10 pouces et je les fait couvrir de crème au beurre. Comme ça ils sont prêts à être recouvert de fondant.

Arielle likes fondant very much so she always request LOTS of small things on the cake. I usually start a week or two before the birthday and I do a little bit every night.
Arielle adore le fondant et lld me demande toujours de mettre vraiment beaucoup de petites choses en fondant sur le gâteau. Je commence généralement 2 semaines avant la fête et j'en fais un peu chaque soir.

This is the dolphin in progress. I started with white fondant that I colored with very little black food coloring. I shaped it.
Ça ici c'est le dauphin. J'ai commencé avec du fondant blanc que j'ai teint avec un tout petit peu de colorant alimentaire noir. Je lui ai ensuite donné la forme d'un dauphin.

I added a white belly, and some fins, an eye and set it aside to dry. Several days!
J'ai ajouté un petit ventre blanc, des nageoires et des yeux et je l'ai laissé sécher pendant plusieurs jours!

I then colored white fondant in green, pink, blue, orange… And made small pool themed accents.
J'ai ensuite coloré du fondant blanc en vert, rose, jaune, bleu, orange…. et j'ai fait des petits éléments en rapport avec la piscine.

For the inspiration I check on Pinterest. I take little pieces here and there and put them all together to form something different. If you check my Pinterest board you'll be able to see the inspiration for these pieces.
Pour l'inspiration, je regarde sur Pinterest. Je prends des petits morceaux que je vois ici et là et je les mets ensemble pour former quelque chose de différent. Si vous regardez mon tableu Pinterest, je suis sûre que vous allez trouver l'inspiration pour faire ces petites pièces. 

This year, Arielle wanted to help making the cake so one afternoon I sat down with he girls and we created together. I showed her how to make little rubber duckies and she tried her had at a noodle and some flowers, a floaty… We had a good time, except for when the whole bottle of white beads fell on the floor. By the way, I do have some tools to work with while making these figurines. If you'd like to try it, I would suggest you buy a set of tools to make flowers and you'll be good to go. At least to try and get better. Just like I did a couple of years ago.
Cette année, Arielle a voulu m'aider à faire le fondant donc un après-midi je me suis assise avec les filles et je leur ai montrer comment faire un petit canard et elle a fait une nouille, des fleurs, un flotteur… On a passé un beau moment qui s'est terminé par un pot entier de petits billes blanches renversé. Si jamais vous voulez essayer de faire des petits éléments en fondant, je vous conseille de vous munir d'outils de base comme un kit pour faire des fleurs. Ensuite il suffit d'essayer et de se pratiquer. C'est comme ça que j'ai appris.

I still had in mind a really cool beach bag made out of cardstock that my friend Sunghee (master of paper!!!) made some years ago and I thought that for this party, it would make for an awesome goodie bag!! So I checked her instructions on her blog and went to town. :)  I made 11 of these!!
Il y a plusieurs années j'avais vu un sac de plage en carton sur le blog do mon amie Sunghee (maître du papier!) et je me suis dit que ce serait parfait pour faire les petits sacs cadeaux. J'en ai fait 11. Chacun m'a pris environ une heure à faire. 

The small watercolor on the front is a pocket. And the ribbon on the top has been sewed because as you see here it wasn't holding much. :)
La petite aquarelle en avant est une petite pochette. J'ai finalement cousu le ruban puisque comme vous pouvez le voir sur la photo, ça ne tenait pas super bien avec de la colle.

Inside the bag I added some girly things. I'm pretty happy with the notebook with the kids monogram. The kids also liked the small pocket mirror and the ceramic owl plate which is the emblem of their school. :)
À l'intérieur du sac j'ai mis des petites affaires de filles trouvées chez Michaels. Je suis super contente du petit livre avec l'initiale de chaque enfant. Les enfants ont beaucoup aimé le petit miroir de poche et la petite assiette en porcelaine en forme de hibou qui est l'effigie de leur école.

For the boys (we had 3 boys) I decided to make a cute Mason jar filled with water themed candies.
Pour les garçons (on en avait 3 d'invités à la fête), j'ai décidé de remplir un pot Mason de bonbons. 

I'm not sure you can see much, but I used jellybeans for the ocean, I added a giant gummy shark and a colorful lollipop. I added a small tag with the names of the kids. And of course, I couldn't give these without giving some to my girls, so Arielle and Maya got a beach bag + a Mason jar.
Je ne sais pas si vous pouvez bien voir, mais j'ai recréé la mer avec des jujubes bleu et blanc et j'ai ajouté un gros requin en jujube et un popsicle multicolor. Évidemment, quand mes filles ont vu ça, elles ont voulu en avoir un pot elles aussi...

After the cake, we went outside and let the kids play in the pool. We wanted to have a water ballon game but all the water balloons we had prepared in the morning had exploded when we came back from lunch. Probably because of the heat. It was close to 100F that day! But really, the pool alone was great. The kids played for 2+ hours without complaining. :)
Après le gâteau on est sorti dehors et on a laissé les enfants jouer dans la piscine. On avait prévu un jeu de ballons d'eau, mais quand on est revenu du dîner on a vu que tous nos ballons d'eau avaient éclaté pendant notre absence. Probablement à cause de la chaleur. Il fait proche 100F. Mais sérieusement, la piscine à elle seule était bien suffisante. Les enfants ont joué pendant plus de 2 heures sans se plaindre une seule fois! :) (party réussi!) ;)

So for when we were outside we installed a table with fruits (grapes, watermelon and strawberries) and chips, pink lemonade and home made sangria! We had a lot of adults at the party. With the pool, I wanted the parents to stay and watch their kids. It worked out great.
À l'extérieur, on a installé une table avec des fruits (fraises, raisins et melon d'eau) et des chips, de la limonade rose et de la sangria maison! On avait beaucoup d'adultes à la fête car avec la piscine, je voulais que les parents restent pour surveiller. Avec la sangria, ça a très bien marché.

After a while I brought some ice pops. I figured that the ones in plastic wrappers would be easier to eat.
Puis à un moment donné, j'ai sorti des Mr. Freeze. Je trouvais que ça se mangeait mieux dans la grosse chaleur que n'importe quel autre popsicle qui aurait fondu partout.

So there you go. It pretty much sums up the party. :)

Get it Scrapped - Once upon a time

Salut tout le monde!!

No, I'm not leaving the Get it Scrapped design team. :) It's more that I made a page for them in the style of a fairy tale. Isn't that fun? Maybe it's because I have two little princesses at home, I had so many stories to choose from. I finally decided to go with my oldest daughter who absolutely wants hair as long as Rapunzel but who also cries every morning when it's time to brush her hair! It makes me wonder if Rapunzel cries too… Maybe she does. Yeah, she probably does.
Non, non, le titre de mon billet peut porter à confusion, je ne suis pas ici aujourd'hui pour vous annoncer la fin de ma participation à l'équipe de Get it Scrapped! Le titre fait plutôt référence à une page que j,ai faite style "histoire de princesse". C'est pas inspirant ça un peu comme défi? C'est peut-être parce que j,ai deux petites filles à la maison, mais quand j'ai reçu ce devoir là à faire, je ne savais pas quelle histoire choisir tant il y en avait! :) Finalement j,ai opté pour l'histoire de ma fille qui aimerait avoir les cheveux aussi long que la princesse Raiponce, mais qui pleure chaque matin quand il faut que je la peigne! Au fait, je me demande si Raiponce pleure elle aussi chaque matin… Peut-etre que oui. Oui, sûrement.

So here's my page.
I started by drawing the tower with a very light pencil.
Tip: Once you draw over the lines with watercolor, you can't really erase them so if you don't want them to show much, you better make them very light.
Once I was done with that, I used some masking fluid to reserve the areas I wanted to be white at the end: the balcony and the frame around the door. When the masking fluid was completely dry, I painted the tower. If you watch closely, you'll see that I used an almost dry brush to get some "stone" texture and that I also left quite a few white spots.
For the roof, I started with a burnt umber and I added some blue.
Once the watercolor was completely dry, I went over some of the lines with gold ink. I used a quill to make the line extra thin.

J'ai commencé par dessiner ma tour avec un crayon super pâle.
Truc: quand on peint à l'aquarelle par-dessus du crayon, les lignes ne s'efface plus. Alors si on ne veut pas voir de ligne, il faut querelles soient vraiment pâles! 
Une fois le sketch de la tour terminé, j'ai appliqué de la gomme de réserve là où je voulais garder le blanc, blanc. Une fois la gomme de réserve bien sèche, j'ai pu peindre la tour. Si vous regardez de près, vous allez voir que j'ai utiliser très peu d'eau sur mon pinceau pour donner une texture de pierre. J,ai aussi laissé plusieurs endroits blancs. 
Pour le toit j'ai utilisé du terre de sienne brûlé et à la toute fin j'ai ajouté un peu de bleu. 
Une fois ma tour complètement sèche, j'ai ajouté des lignes d'encre dorée. J'ai utilisé une plume pour l'appliquer parce que je voulais des lignes très fines.

At the end I thought that the tower was way too pale with the sky so I decided to accentuate some contour lines with a fine tip black marker.
Vous voyez le nom de famille au dessus de la porte? Les petits détails comme ceux-là apportent beaucoup à une aquarelle comme celle-là.
Quand j,ai eu fait mon ciel, j'ai trouvé que ma tour ne ressortait pas du tout alors j'ai pris un marquer très fin noir et j'ai ajouté quelques lignes de contour. 

Here are some pictures in different angles. Since the image is very shimmery, every angle reveals some more details.
Je vous mets plusieurs autres photos prises dans plusieurs angles car avec la lumière, j'ai l'impression qu'on voit d'autres détails dans chaque photo.

When I was completely done with my tower, I painted the background. The sky and the grass and bushes. I used lots of water!!
Pour peindre le ciel, le gazon et les buissons, j'ai utiliser un très gros pinceau et beaucoup d'eau.

When everything was dry, I started doing my journaling. I had already written my text on a piece of paper so that I could plan ahead how many lines I would need. I also planned my "O" that I painted with gold ink. I drew lines. I'm not good at all at writing on a straight line and since this was a long text, it had to be "perfect" … in a way. Let's say, it had to be straight! :)
Quand tout ça était sec, j'ai commencé à écrire mon texte. Quand j'ai fait mes cours de calligraphie, j'ai appris que planifier la longueur de son texte avant de l'écrire au propre était très important. J'ai donc écrit mon texte sur une feuille et j'ai compté les lignes dont j'aurais besoin. J'ai aussi planifié comment j'allais dessiner le "O" au début du texte. Je me suis dessiné des lignes au crayon à mine parce que je n'arrive jamais à écrire droit et parce que quand on écrit un texte long comme celui-ci, c'est important que ce soit droit. J'ai peint mon "O" avec de l'encre dorée et un petit pinceau.

My journaling is totally written in a fairy tale kind of way. To do so, I was totally inspired by the class CREATIVE JOURNALING given by Lisa Moorefield over at BigPictureClasses. Once I got the idea of writing in the style of a fairy tale, I googled… and I found some tips like: you need a beginning, a problem/obstacle, an enemy, lesson learned and an "happily ever after" ending. It's all very obvious, but when I read about it it made it so much easier for me to compose my text. I also didn't spend hours on that. I made a rough draught, and then the text. Probably I could have let it sit a little and come back to it the next day, but I was impatient. :)
Si vous lisez mon texte, vous allez voir qu'il a vraiment été écrit dans nu style de livre de princesse. Et j'ai été inspirée par Lisa Moorefield dans son cours CREATIVE JOURNALING donné à BigPictureClasses. Une fois que j'ai eu l'idée, j'ai googlé "écrire une histoire de princesse" et ça m'a donné plein de petits trucs qui devaient se retrouver dans mon texte comme par exemple: un début, un problème ou un obstacle, un ennemi, une leçon à apprendre et une fin "et ils vécurent heureux…" C'est clair que ce sont des choses que je savais, mais de les lire juste avant d'écrire mon texte m'a beaucoup aidé. Je n,ai pas passé des heures sur mon texte. J'aurais peut-être du mais j'étais trop impatiente de finir. 

So anyway, at the bottom of the text, I wanted to write "The End". Since I'm no hand lettering artist, I went to all my calligraphy and illumination books, and then I went to Pinterest. Easy enough, I found that word art. I simple reproduced it, by hand. No copy or scan. I just did my best. And when I was done doing it with my pencil, I filled in the lines with a paint brush and some gold ink.
À la fin du texte, je voulais absolument un "the End" parce que c'est la partie que mes filles aiment le plus dans une histoire quand on dit "The End". :) Comme je ne suis pas une experte en écriture, j'ai encore une fois googlé "the end" après avoir fouillé dans tous mes livres de calligraphie et d'enluminure. Puis c'est sur Pinterest que j'ai trouvé ce "the End". Je ne l'ai pas tracé, je l'ai juste reproduit à l'oeil. Puis je l'ai peint avec l'encre or et un tout petit pinceau.

You might wonder where I found a 12x12 watercolor paper, because the biggest pads are 12 x 11 inches…. well, I still have some huge watercolor sheets left from my time as a watercolor artist. Very practical. As you can see here, I didn't cut a 12x12 piece out of the large sheet. Instead I folded it several time and tear it apart. It leaves that gorgeous rough edge that I love.
Si vous vous demandez où j'ai trouvé du papier aquarelle de cette grandeur alors que tous les pars mesurent maximum 12x11 pouces, bien j'ai pris un morceau dans une de mes grandes feuilles que j'utilisais pour mes tableaux quand je faisais de l'aquarelle. Et comme vous pouvez le voir ici, on ne découpe pas une feuille d'Aquarelle avec des ciseaux. On fait plutôt un pli à plusieurs reprise et on fini par pouvoir déchirer notre morceau assez facilement. Ca laisse une belle bordure toute texturée. J'adore!

Finally, when I was all done, I checked to see what place I had left to add a photo. The background was beautiful and I didn't want to hide lots of it so I printed a small picture, about 3x4 inches with a white border. I didn't want to mat it, didn't want it to become much bigger, so I decided to use my sewing machine and gold thread and to create a frame. The result is very light and airy. I'm happy. I added one last detail: a gold foil label (Pretty Little Studio - THANKS MELISSA!!!!!) and added the date the photo was taken. Voilà :)
Finalement, quand mon aquarelle et mon texte étaient finis, j'ai regardé pour voir ce qui me restait de place pour mettre une photo. La vérité: il n'en restait pas beaucoup!! Je ne voulais pas recouvrir toute mon aquarelle. Alors j'ai imprimé une toute petite photo (3x4 environ ou même plus petit je crois) et j,ai laissé une mince bordure blanche. Je ne voulais pas monter ma photo sur du papier pour ne pas cacher l,aquarelle alors j,ai décidé de coudre un cadre autour de la photo avec du fil métallique doré. Puis j'ai ajouté une étiquette dorée (Pretty Little Studio - MERCI MELISSA!!!) et la date à laquelle la photo avait été prise (à la danse père-fille de l'école - ça va super bien avec le thème de ma page!) Voilà :)

Oh yeah, I also added to my sky some shimmer medium which is similar to the wink of stella brush but you can apply it with a big brush. Look at the shimmer and shine of that page. It's so hard to capture the beauty of our layouts. I hope you can picture it in your head. I totally loved going back to real watercolor. But don't worry, I'm not leaving scrapbooking behind. In my eyes, a layout with a story and a picture is worth so much more than any watercolor painting I have ever made.
Ah oui! J'ai aussi ajouté un médium brillant à mon ciel. Le médium fait un peu comme le "wink of stella" mais on peut l'appliquer avec un plus gros pinceau. Regardez la brillance de la page! C'est vraiment difficile de photographier mes pages et de rendre la beauté réelle.  Je n'y arrive jamais. Mais j'espère que vous pouvez quand même vous imaginer la beauté de la page en vrai. J'ai vraiment adoré faire nue grande aquarelle comme celle-là. Mais ne vous inquiétez pas, je ne laisserai pas le scrap pour retourner à mes pinceaux. Honnêtement, à mes yeux, une page de scrap, avec une histoire et une photo, vaut beaucoup plus que n'importe quel tableau que j'ai déjà pu créer.
