Caden started taking crawling steps a week ago....but now hes going full force. At only 6 months and 1 week old.

Videos/Pictures/Updates on the babes!
Some videos!
Some updates!
*Today between 6 am and 12 pm, Kayla went pee on the potty FOUR times, without me asking! So, I took her to the BX and she got some new beach toys and of course, CANDY.
*Today, Kayla got her very first 2nd Birthday Card. I must admit, that was a bit sad and amazing at the same time. Thank You Great Great Grandma and Grandpap! Oh, and it had $5 in it!
*2 days ago Caden's TWO bottom teeth broke through his gums. I was shocked. I mean, he is ONLY 5 months old and I had no indication of them being THIS close!
*Caden is almost through all the stage 2 baby foods. He does NOT like green veggies. This must have been inherited from MiMi. Hehe! He MUST have a fruit in the morning after his bottle and then a veggie for dinner.
*Caden is very close to crawling. He gets his ENTIRE body up off the floor, he gets up on his hands and feet and looks like he is going to take off at about 30 MPH. He can maneuver all over the living room and get to any position for any toy within seconds.
*Dont ask me how he is getting this big this fast at only 5 months old. I was SO SO sure that the 2nd baby would grow slower. But this kid...he is growing twice as fast as Kayla did. I swear.
*Birth Mom has completed her 9 month college program and graduates on July 29th, 1 day before Kayla's 2nd Birthday. We are so happy for her and looking forward to see what comes next for her!
*I am still running. The scale still has not changed from 140.5 pounds in 4 weeks now and while its VERY frustrating Im still going to continue to run. Id rather be stuck at 140, then be at 159 and counting like before. I still am enjoying eating better and it felt great to be hiking around the falls carrying 20 pounds on the front of me and not being worn out, or even out of breath for 1 second, and my legs not even close to being sore. I assume I will eventually lose the next 10 pounds. I hope.
Here are some pictures. Last weekend we went to the falls here on island and both kids really enjoyed it, as did Mama and Dada.

A little chat about my running, plus some pics
I started week 8 this week. Technically week 9, because I did week 5 twice. The past 2 weeks have been the most frustrating. I am on 3 weeks of no weight loss. And no, its not all muscle. I am holding steady at 141. I have officially hit my plateau. This body of mine does not want to go below 141 and hit my goal of 130. Heck, 135 would be great right now.
Plateau's SUCK. I hate you. Seriously. I only have 10 more pounds to go and Im stuck.
I researching this and here are some things that I found:
How to avoid the dreaded PLATEAU in your exercise routine
By Jason Johnson
We all have experienced a point in our exercise program in which we stop seeing results. You have worked out consistently for 8 weeks straight and kept your diet clean. You lost weight during this time, your clothes fit better and you’re getting compliments left and right.
But now-your results have stopped. The weight scale is not going down. What happened? You hit the dreaded point of everyone’s exercise program: THE PLATEAU.
It happens to everyone. The human body has an amazing way of adapting to the everyday stress we place upon our it. It’s called muscle memory. You have probably experienced this in your own routines when you perform a new exercise for the 1st time, it feels challenging, maybe a little awkward.
The next day you are sore. But the next time you do the same exercise, it’s a little easier. Still challenging, but it feels more natural. The next day, not quite as sore. And the next time you perform the same exercise for a 3rd time, you breeze right through it.
Then what? No soreness at all. This is due to muscle memory. It’s good news-bad news. Good news because this is how the human body should function.
Your body should be adapting to the movement, and it means your body is healthy and functioning properly. The bad news is-you are not going to burn as many calories during the exercise because your body (muscles, bones, joints and tendons) have now adapted to the stress of the movement, and thus your body will not work as hard during the exercise.
This translates into THE PLATEAU. You stop seeing results because your body has adapted.
The human body needs to be progressively challenged in order to see results. If you always do the same routine with the same amount of weight, same rep scheme-your progress will stall. I read a research study a while back that said after performing an exercise 13 times with the same weight and same reps, your body will PLATEAU.
What can you do to prevent this? Easy: change your routine. The fancy phrase we use in exercise science jargon is called periodization. I would recommend changing your routine every 3-4 weeks. You want to always keep your body guessing “what’s next?” so it never gets too comfortable. I do this all the time with my clients and my own routines. You can change the entire routine, or you can simply change a few variables such as reps, weight or the order of the exercises.
This describes me EXACTLY right now!
Here is something else I found:
Question: How Can I Get Over a Weight Loss Plateau?
Since I started running four months ago, I've lost 15 pounds. But over the past two weeks, I seem to have reached a plateau. How can I continue to lose weight?
Answer: First of all, congratulations on your new running habit and your weight loss! You should be very proud of your accomplishment. You're losing weight the right way -- slow and steady. Although it's extremely frustrating, it's also common for people to hit a plateau after a few months of weight loss success. Here are some steps to take to break through that plateau:
Try switching up your running program. If you've gotten into a regular routine of, say, running at a conversational pace for 30 minutes five times a week, try adding some speed to at least one of your runs. Here's a simple speed workout to try: Warm up with one mile at an easy pace. Run two minutes at a comfortably hard pace. You should be breathing fairly heavy (but not gasping for air). Then recover for two minutes by running at an easy pace. Repeat this for two miles and then cool down by running one mile easy.
Increase your mileage. If you usually go for 3-4 miles every time you run, try to make one of your runs a longer one. Start by adding a half-mile to one of your runs. Continue to increase your mileage by a half-mile until you reach 6 miles. Running longer will burn more calories and fat and build your endurance.
Add strength-training. It can be as simple as doing 15-20 minutes of squats, lunges, or step-ups twice or three times a week. By doing strength-training, you'll burn more calories, boost your metabolism, and build lean muscle mass all at the same time.
Don't give up. Try not to let a little bump in the road derail your weight loss efforts. Be patient and keep up the good habits you've already developed. You can and will reach your goal!
I know Im eating within my calories, of very close to. I am eating as little fat as possible. Eating only foods with very little or no fat at all. I cut out almost all dairy except for skim milk with cereal, and very small amount of cheese and a lite yogurt as a treat every now and then. No bread except for an english muffin with a fried egg (Pam of course, no butter) and the occasional slice or 2 of wheat bread. I have a treat from The Skinny Cow brand almost nightly, but that is only 100-140 calories and 20-25 fat calories each treat. I burn that plus more in my daily run. And heck...with me having very little fat in the day I can splurge on at least that.
Every inch of me is smaller. My belly is smaller but it's still there. And its still annoying, frustrating and discouraging. But this doesnt mean I will give up.
Im trying to change up my routine and in a week, I guess we will see if that works or not. If not, then well...I guess I will just maintain 141 and hopefully just lose the rest of the 10 pounds over time.
Now onto more interesting things. Like pictures of course!
Can you guess what Kayla is getting from her Dada for her 2nd birthday? Which by the way is only 17 days away.

Uh yeah...she's almost 2 and knows it. Yes, this is blue crayon on white tile floor. Thank you God for allowing man to create the magic eraser. The housing office wouldnt be happy about this otherwise!

She got a pair of princess shoes for going pee on the potty without being prompted to do so!

Dada told her to pose, and so...SHE DID!

Here is a video of Kayla singing her favorite songs. Ooops, well..I wanted to post this but You.Tube is currently down, so next time.
Now for the boy! Who by the way is over 5 months old now. Time flies. Everytime I snuggle him lately its kind of sad. I think to myself that soon enough I wont be able to do that. Soon enough he will be 8 months old and not need me and my snuggles for night time feedings. Soon enough he will be too long to nap in my arms. Its going so fast and KNOWING full well that he is our last baby (until grandchildren come along!) makes it so incredibly bittersweet. And I thought it was bittersweet when Kayla was tiny and growing so fast...this one is even harder. Because he IS the last.

Sicko, random and a video
Sorry blogger. The past 2 days have been rough. And go figure, the day after Nick leaves for TDY, I get sick. I felt it coming on yesterday but I was able to push through it and do my chores, play with the kids and do a run. But today, I could N.O.T. wake up.
Caden fell asleep in the swing a little before 8 am. I sat on the couch just wanting to rest my eyes and Kayla sat with her toys and the disney channel. Next thing I know I wake up 2 hours later and Kayla is still just playing and watching tv and Caden is still asleep. Wow.
My head is stuffy, my nose is either running or stuffy, my throat hurts, my energy is nonexistent.
And I think Kayla may be getting sick. She layed down for a nap at 12:30, woke up at 1 crying and sweating, went back to sleep after gulping her entire cup of OJ, and now its 3 pm and she is still out.
Of course, because now I am on my own and will be for another 6 days.
Oh, and of course because Dada is gone Caden decides to have a few firsts. The day after he left Caden decided to start to laugh out loud AND this morning when I went to get him out of his bed, he was facing the opposite direction from the way he went to sleep and somehow he torn down the baby monitor that was zip tied very tightly to his bed.
On another note, my weight is 145! ONE-FOUR-FIVE!
14 pounds down, started at 159.
My wedding ring is a lot looser on me and the sweatpants I had been wearing to run in I can no longer run in because they are too big.
Oh and today we got some mail.
COURT ORDERED AND ADJUDGED: THE MINOR CHILD CADEN JOHN ALESSI IS DECLARED TO BE THE LEGAL CHILD OF PETITIONERS NICHOLAS AND MICHELLE ALESSI. THE MINOR CHILD SHALL BE THE CHILD AND NATURAL LEGAL HEIR OF PETITIONERS AND IS ENTITLED TO ALL RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES TO ALL OBLIGATIONS OF A CHILD BORN TO PETITIONERS.
Here is a video of the boy's first giggles out loud.

Im back with a video
Well, I guess more people missed me than I thought would. I apologize. Nick come home, had 3 weeks off work so we stayed busy with him. Then I got lazy...then I lost my desire for blogging. I was feeling down for a little bit. But Im good...I will try to get back at this.
A couple weeks ago I found out that our Birth Mom is pregnant again. I wont post exactly how I feel on here since I dont know who is reading, but as you can imagine it opens up some old wounds for me. We wont be adopting this baby so it brings back old feelings. Old feelings of, "How can she get pregnant and I cant?" She is 20 and on her third pregnancy...and I cant get and stay pregnant once without spending thousands of dollars. Its Not Fair.
Anyways, I dont want to start blogging back up on a depressing note...so I will start with this video of Kayla...Please enjoy!

Kayla and her Baby Enstien Flash Cards
Before I took this video we went through her card sand she very happily named off all of them except a few, like fire truck.
So after that, I turned on the video and thought I would get it on video. Only....she wanted to play with them instead of name them all.

Hey Hey Hey All!
I know, I know. This is the very WORST I have slacked on the blog. I swear this blog will be back to its regular schedule as soon as Kayla and I get back home. We have 1 week from today until we are home, where I have more time on my hands.
We have family coming over today for July 4th, I see my Great Grandparents on Monday followed by a friend after that, and another friend early in the week and then the rest of the week, our last week here, I am taking time to relax and do nothing. Then Saturday morning bright and early Kayla and I head back home.
For now...please visit Ter's blog, With An Angel On My Shoulder.
I am proud to announce that I am her July Follower Of The Month.
Check it out!
To hold you over for the next week, here are a few videos from a week or so ago.

Today we have her 9 month well baby appointment so that will be to come soon too.
For now, here are just a few videos of her. Of many.

A lot can happen in an hour at the beach....
For example...
A Mama can take a video of a little girl playing in the sand. And the video's colors can turn out funky so a Mama can tell a Dada that a Mama needs a new video camera. (hint, hint)
And a lot of picture action can happen too.
For example...
(Pictures not taken with my good Canon camera)

Kayla's hair clippy made by Tina. Click here to see her store. Kayla's dress sent by Grammy. Thank you both.

Videos and a few words from the man himself
Here are 2 videos of my girl playing in the water over the last 2 days.
And a few words from Nick.
I got to see the base today. ITS A DUMP HERE. But we have mountains around us and that is beautiful!! I have lots of pics, but didnt have time to upgrade my internet today. So I will upload them once I do!
I worked with the dirtboys today. I got to take my tractor trailer and haul some stuff around base for them. Got to try out my wheels for the next 6 months.
I miss you boo. The food here SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS. This base isnt american. There arent many us forces here and the food is geared towards europe. No begals, no burgers, no normal bread, no normal ham....NOTHING. I hate the food so much. Tell people to send me CHEF BOYARDEEE!!!!!!!!!!! Spaghetti and meatballs preferably!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and single use drink flavors. Like the crystal light and koolaid packs for single bottles. I need more than water!!!!
So there you have it. He is not spoiled with all you can eat ice cream snickers bars, or girl scout cookies, or ham and cheese sandwiches....like his last deployment. Poor guy.

I asked for one and got 50
Lots to show you. But first..
Yesterday evening I took Kayla for a walk down at the beach. While walking I spotted a couple butterflies. I stopped, and tried to capture one in a picture but they were just too fast. So, I continued the walk. I asked Aunt Deb to let me get just one picture of one butterfly and I would be happy. 20 feet down the road I ran into what seemed like 50 butterflies.
About 20 feet down the road...she not only gave me 1 butterfly to capture in a picture....but about 50 of them to capture in lots of pictures and even a video. It was utterly amazing. I just stood there taking pictures with flying all around me and Kayla. Then I just stood there and watched. I watched Kayla watch the butterflies, and I watched them myself. And I couldnt help but release a few tears and think of Aunt Deb. To this day, I still think of her so much and wish I could hear her 1 more time.
Here is a video of the butterflies.
And here are a few pictures. ( Head band made by Tina from Sweet Pea's Place )

I also managed to get a picture of Kayla's teeth while she was chewing on her sunglasses. Since this picture, tooth number 2 has popped through the gums, so thankfully Kayla and I both got much needed rest last night.

And a few pictures from Kayla's bath time. Tammy and Mark sent us the bubble bath! Thank you both again!

Today Nick got a chance to call us. Kayla was outside in her pool when he called. I was in the middle of teaching her the word NO as he called. She was trying to get into my plant I have. He got a kick out of that. He is now headed over to the middle east. I have his mailing address but cannot give it out until he gets there. We dont want him missing any mail. I can give out his email address. If you are interested let me know. It will be a few days before he arrives. We think he has 2 layovers that are a couple of days long. Im so ready to get the show on the road so we can start getting this deployment over with. I want my husband home where he belongs.
Oh, also...I did call my Great Grandma this morning. They weren't home so I left a message and she called back. Her and my Grandpap were beyond excited to hear from me and they are even more excited to meet their Great Great Granddaughter, miss Kayla Nicole this summer. I'm glad I pushed myself to pick up the phone. It's going to be a hard visit. They are very much so up there in age and I don't know the next time I will be back in PA to visit. Hopefully a year or so, but in that time you never know.
Well, I suppose this blog is long enough. Dont want to bore anyone. Until next time my friends...

Slide show from today
Slide show from today. Kayla's first time in her pool. Thank you Santa for the pool and Thank you Grammy and Grandpa for the bikini!
Kayla had a blast while the living carpet was drying. Mama shampoo'ed it today!
By the way, turn on your speakers while watching the slide show. A song plays along with it.
