Funnies

So  yesterday at a friend's house as I was getting out of the car I felt something dripping all over my foot and for the life of me I couldnt figure out where the heck it was coming from. I soon realized it my was new purse dripping. Oh no! Yup...Kayla's sippy cup leaked in my new purse all over the place. Good thing is that I am glad I spent $50 on my new washable purse. Bad thing is that it NEVER fails...once a year for some reason we have to buy a new camera. Cameras never last more than a year in the Alessi household. They are used daily and follow us everywhere we go. Yup..sticky apple juice all over the camera. Right now it's sitting with a dehumidifier and Im hoping at least the memory card can be salvaged. I have pictures on there of us at Wendy's yesterday...Kayla enjoying some french fries, burger and root beet frosty float. My absolute favorite. We'll see.

Also yesterday Kayla said another new word. "No!" She says it and shakes her head at the same time. She can also say her own name now very loud and clear and she knows eyes, nose and mouth. Oh, yes...and she can whistle.

And today, May 30th at 2:34 PM, she will be 10 month old. And I cant even believe it.

13 days until we fly off this island to PA!

OMG!

For the sweet tooth...

OMG! Today, I I spent $50.00 on a purse. A Vera Bradly purse. This is first for me. And, if you know me well, you will probably want to ask me, "Woah, what made you do that?"
I dont spend that much on a purse. I dont buy name brand purses. Im happy with my purses from Wal.mart and even my purse that Nick had to talk me into getting after I got home with Kayla, that was $33.00 because I needed one to hold her bottles, diapers and whatnot. And diaper bags are just too big to carry around.
So this....this my friends, is RARE for me and it's a first for me. It will also make a great travel purse. I love all the compartments inside it, and I love the fact that it's machine washable because we always have leaky sippy cups.
Nick is promoting to E-6 June 1st. This was his treat to me that he doesnt even know about until he reads this. (Thank you my dearst hubby! hehe!)

Hangin in there

I'm still hanging in there trying to catch up. Seems impossible. Yesterday I finally could physically see what caused the whole week to be torturous to both Kayla and I. She has tooth number 3 and 4 right about to pop through. One has the hole already in her gum and the other isn't far  behind. Normally babies get the 2 bottom teeth, then the 2 top teeth. Well, not my 'normal' little girl. She got her 2 bottom teeth first and now 2 more on the bottom. One on each side of the 2 that are already there. I hope we get a break  before the next ones come in. Pleasssseee!

Here is a picture of my daring little girl from over the weekend. Seconds after this picture I went running over to her in the midst of a heart attack.

Last night I had the worst dream that all my teeth on top rotten and then fell out. It was quite disgusting. I have dreams quite often of my teeth falling out but this was a first that they were rotted before falling out. I looked it up in the dream dictionary and found this:

Dreams that your teeth are falling out are the most common dreams we here at Dream Moods receive. Common dream scenarios include having your teeth crumble in your hands, fall out one by one with just a light tap, grow crooked or rot. Such dreams are not only horrifying and shocking, but often leaves the dreamer with a lasting image of the dream. So what does it mean?

One theory is that dreams about your teeth reflect your anxiety about your appearance and how others perceive you. Sadly, we live in a world where good looks are valued highly and your teeth play an important role in conveying that image. Teeth are used in the game of flirtations, whether it be a dazzling and gleaming smile or affectionate necking. These dreams may stem from a fear of your sexual impotence or the consequences of getting old. Teeth are an important feature of our attractiveness and presentation to others. Everybody worries about how they appear to others. Caring about our appearance is natural and healthy.

Told ya..

See? I wasnt going over the line when I told you all I had the best husband.

Sorry the blog has been slacking. I been exhausted over here. Not something a nap, or 2 or 3 can help. Last week of teething really set me back in energy. Im trying to catch up.

Today we are driving the 45 minutes to the Navy Base's beach for a Red Horse deployed spouses Memorial Day picnic. I dont really want to go but I figured I would go to get out of the house, make Nick happy (because I hate going to squadron functions and he doesnt want me to be the wife that never goes to these things) and free lunch. Plus the Navy Exchange is there and 10 times or more bigger than our BX, so I will stop there after. If my energy level holds up enough.

Soon, the blog will return to it's regular schedule.

18 days until our 8,000 mile journey to Grammy's house!

Michelle, you have been hacked!!!!!!

After guessing different logins and passwords, I have made it into her blog. I being her husband, Nick.
First I want to thank everyone for supporting Michelle and I, and most recently KAYLA, through this journey, adventure, experience, or whatever you may call it. I would call it a dream, but the only truly dreamy part has been the outcome. Not that it hasn't been a building block of our marriage and taught us we can overcome anything, but because of the heartache it caused so many along the way.

Most importantly, I really wanted to thank you, Michelle. Thank you for being there for me through all my good decisions, bad decisions and indifferent decisions. I know I told you many years ago that the Air Force was my life and I don't want to miss opportunities in my career, but I know I have taken that mighty far. There have been times when I am sure I could have stayed home, times when I could have gotten out of those holiday shifts, and times where I chose missions that I probably shouldn't have. But, through it all you remained there for me. You supported me, you supported yourself and you ran a household when the odds were stacked against you, us. Thank you for the concern you show and the unwaivering trust and support you give me, even when not hearing from me from days, sometimes weeks on end. I try my hardest to check in, but you would be really surprised if you saw the whole picture of what we do sometimes. Someday I will explain it all, maybe.
Thank you for rallying support from your girlfriends, your blogger friends and our family. Even living 2 feet from a guy next to me for 7 months, its amazing how lonely it can get out here. How depressing your down time is and how unmotivated silence can make us. When I receive mail, emails, packages or blog updates it brings me back to reality and reminds me why it is we do what we do.
Thank you for raising Kayla. I am sorry how hard it was to begin a family, but I am thankful for the end result. I wouldn't want it any other way. She is a perfectly little girl, a lady, a munch kin, but above all else, our daughter. Thank you for putting up with early mornings, long nights, stinky diapers and teething slobber. Thank you for raising her with our values, our pride, our commitment and most importantly, our love.

Again, thank you everyone. I don't always get to read Michelle's posts, but whenever I do, I check the comments and am thankful for the advice, sympathy and congratulations that we receive.
I love you Michelle, Always and Forever!!!!

EEEhhhhhhhh

So, Kayla is still not well. I'm going to call first thing in the morning to try to get her a same day appointment just to rule out anything else besides teeth, like an ear infection or something. Because 5 days later of this and I still don't see any new teeth. And I miss my happy, independent, do her own thing, baby. I want her back.

Today was rough although not as rough as yesterday. Today she took 3 naps, totally about 4 hours. And she even slept all night last night and tonight she went to bed at her normal time.

I cant imagine a growth spurt giving her all these symptoms. I don't know. I do know, I want her to feel like her self again.

On the other hand, its good we are going through this now and not on our 28 hour flights to Pennsylvania in 23 days.

I lied

Kayla is not back to feeling better. Yesterday she started with diarrhea so its defiantly teeth. Her morning and afternoon nap were both over an hour long.
I did get her to eat some dinner last night. About 6 bites worth. Last night she woke up 4 times crying and then this morning was ready to wake up before the birds at 4:30 am. And she is already starting the day being very cranky.

And I swear when nights like this happen, the cats gang up on me and cause me to loose even more sleep.

I'm exhausted and not happy that I am back to feeling like a zombie after such a long time of good sleep. But, I am thankful we did get a break in between teeth coming in so I could have a good period of good sleep. And I am thankful that I am feeling like a zombie because it means I'm a mommy. But I hate feeling so extremely tired because I cant be the best Mom I can be in this position.

Its not easy being a Mom during teething time.

She is back!

While it was nice to have 3 days of Kayla sleeping in until past 6 am, it's better have her feeling her better. This morning was her usual wake Mama up at 4:30 (ugh). But I got her to go back to sleep until 5:30 then have a bottle and play.

Over the last 2 days we have had a lot of water play to keep her fever down. And it worked quite well. A good thing about living on a tropical island is when baby has fever, take baby outside to play with the hose running....ANYTIME of year!

Saturday I did just that. And it worked. Her fever went down very quickly.

Sunday we were invited to a water park and Kayla was still very sickly. But no problem! Floating down the lazy river worked some magic. We did that for a couple hours and it kept her fever down. Then we (I) had lunch while she had medicine and a nap.

Now today, I'm hoping I can get her to eat more than 2 crackers all day long.

It had to be those darn teeth.

Oh, and I wanted to remind everyone I have a recipe blog here:
http://michellespathofrecipes.blogspot.com/
Not sure that everyone knows about it. I don't blog as often as I'd like, but I do blog recipes!

Sickie

Kayla wasn't herself yesterday.
This morning she woke up in tears. This NEVER happens. She was hot. I took her temp...100.1 and then I gave her a bottle. Which ended up all over me 10 miuntes later. Apple juice seems be staying down.
My poor girl.
I hate seeing her sick.
I hate it.
I hate it.
I HATE IT.

Current list of words

As of yesterday Kayla has 2 new words in her vocabulary.
*go
*more
Which brings her current vocabulary to:
*mama, dada, *baba (bottle), *go and *more. She is working on saying *no.

Off of the top of my head, here are the things she understands.
*Give me a kiss
*Kiss Mama
*Mama kiss Kayla
*Bite
*Dance
*Any word from the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme song
*Pooh Bear (our cat)
*Roo and Moo Moo (our other cat)
*Come here
*She can sing LA LA LA LA LA
*NO
*Kayla
*Hey
*Daisy (our friend's dog)
*Here
*Diaper Change
*Give me five (and she gives high five's)
*Do you want to eat?
*Im gonna get you!
Im sure there is more, but it's early and this is off the top of my head.

Yesterday we took a Mama and Kayla day out. I took her downtown after a long morning nap for the both of us. We started out with TGI Friday's for lunch. Mama had a Shanghai Chicken Salad. Kayla ate the chicken and oranges from my salad and also had french fries. She refused to feed herself the fries. She touched the fry and dropped it and then stared at her 'dirty' hand until I cleaned it off. Such a girl. Then we walked to Underwater World and Mama's camera died. I forgot to charge it. We took our time going through the underwater tunnels watching fish and sharks and we left with a new toy. A squeaky purple octopus. Kayla was totally passed out by the time we got home.
Here is Kayla looking at her 'dirty' hand and a pic of Fridays before anyone else got there for lunch. It quickly filled up with the Japanese tourists soon after I took this picture.

Today, nothing but grocery shopping and quilting. At least thats the plan.

27 days until we go over the ocean and through the clouds to Grandmother's house! 8,000 miles away!!

Progress on Kayla's quilt

I'm coming right along with Kayla's quilt. I'm taking a few days off from it and working on another project. I'm making a kitchen apron for a friend. Her kitchen theme is chili's and she had leftover fabric from her bar stools and curtains. It's coming along really nicely.

Kayla's quilt will be half way finished in no time once I'm done with the apron. I have half of all the rows of squares all sewn together. It's been a challenge. Sewing onesie fabric has not been easy at all. It stretches really easy and bunches up really easy under the dewing machine. I wont work with onesies again to make a quilt, thats for sure. I think it requires more of an advanced sewer and tools than what I am and what I have, to make it work.

Don't get me wrong, Kayla's quilt is going to be gorgeous, but not perfect. The squares aren't even close to being perfectly evened up with each other. And, I messed up on the 2nd row of squares I sewed together. I accidentally sewed the 2nd row on upside down. But even still, it looks quite nice. Just looks a little more 'homemade' which actually might be even cooler than if it were perfect.

Here are some pictures. Im much further in the process than what these pictures show but I haven taken anymore recent pictures.

I'm hoping to have it totally done and completed by the end of May. Which is totally possible.

This is my view from my sewing area.

My sewing area on the kitchen counter. Its not easy but its do-able.

Our day

So, I got my Mother's Day gift the night before the actual day. After dinner Kayla got picked up by a boy and went for a ride. ( My friend's sweet almost 5 year old son)

On the actual day Kayla let me sleep in until 5:45 am! Even today, the day after she let me sleep until 5:50 am. This is rare.
Yesterday on Mother's Day we hung out at home. We took a nap together, I worked on Kayla's quilt, (Which I will post pics of soon), I watched a movie that was a waste of time, (don't watch Rachel Getting Married), we went to the BX to pick up something Nick wanted me to send him, and then we went to a friend's house for a Mother's Day dinner made by friend's husband. Before dinner the kids went for a swim. For dinner, they had the Panda Express recipe for Orange Chicken and it turned out fantastic. After dinner we went for a walk.

And this morning I woke up to new pictures from Nick. He is back from his 2 week long convoy mission and will have a break for a couple weeks before going back out again.

Happy Mother's Day

Photobucket

My friend Tammy said it perfectly...

To those who are blessed to have children on earth, to those blessed to have angels in heaven and to those who are mothers in their hearts and just waiting for their miracle.

Last night I went to my friend's house to hang out. I bought her a Mother's Day gift for all that she has done and will do for me and Kayla while Nick is away. She will drop anything she's doing to help me. She lets Kayla and I eat dinner with her family at least once a week, sometimes more.

And her and Nick have been communicating without my knowledge. I went to her house last night and there on her kitchen counter sat a gift from Nick, found by her. A single red rose, a small teddy bear and a card written by her but in Nick's words.

It was funny to read what was clearly Nick's words, but in B's handwriting.

He's so far away, but manages to give me a Mother's Day.

And this isn't the first time he has done this type of thing.

In 2004 when he was deployed he had a very good friend deliver flowers to me at work for our Anniversary.

I clearly have the best husband a husband can be.

She is on the roll

Kayla can walk an entire whole block!!
She did it on Friday evening after dinner at our friend's house.

Thursday, May 07, 2009

Kayla also loves...

to walk. She cant get enough. She has this toy to help her walk and she wont let it go until I pick it up and put it away. Last night after dinner, she walked all the way down the block at our friend's house. That video will be coming soon.

Today we have her 9 month well baby appointment so that will be to come soon too.

For now, here are just a few videos of her. Of many.

Kayla loves....

dancing with Mama in the living room to the song, My Girl, by The Temptations.

She has the most perfect contagious giggle.

New car seat

We picked up a new big girl car seat for Kayla over the weekend. Before I installed it in the car I let her 'get to know' it in the living room. She had fun with it.

I cant believe my baby is no longer in an infant car seat. So sad. So amazing. I cant believe how big she is either. Every time we go to a store, at least two people oohhhs and ahhhhhs over her, tells me how gorgeous she is, how perfect her skin is, how big and beautiful her eyes are and compliments me on her good behavior. Then they go on to ask how old she is...and I go on to tell them she just turned 9 months old. And I swear to you people do a double take as their jaws hit the floor. They all swear to me she looks like she is at least one. But, I tell them she's not, she's only 9 months old.

It's all so bittersweet. I love her more and more everyday. She really just makes me melt. I can never get enough of her. I can never kiss her enough. I can never hug her enough. I can never squeeze her enough. I can never laugh with her or play with her enough. If I could buy time I would be dirt broke and poor. Yet time is so going so fast that I feel like I slept through weeks at a time.

And Dada is missing it all......

Stay tuned for videos of Kayla walking!

This is only *ONE* of Kayla's newest tricks

And yes, I'm a baby. She actually made me cry while making that video. Watching her dance and hearing that song struck a vein in my heart. She takes my breath away.

9 month photo shoot pictures

Here is the slide show. There are about 80 pictures all together but I only included 35 in the slide show.
Enjoy!
