September Monthly Smeared Ink Member Blog Hop | STEAMPUNK!

Good Morning Smeared and Smudged Family! This month I'm participating in the Steampunk Members Blog Hop! I LOVE steampunk and actually host 4 or 5 blog hops a year dedicated to celebrating holidays steampunk style! I needed this hop to rewind my mind and gear up for new creative adventures coming my way.

For today's tag, I started with a piece of patterned paper that I stamped across to create "background clutter". I die cut some gear shapes and inside some of them you see stamping as well. I layered my gears, added some bling and some pearls. I created some shadowy depth with sepia pastel around gears. I added some doodle lines with my PITT pen and added some steampunk washi tape and more pearls to the topper to finish off the tag!

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed my project!

May Monthly Smeared Ink Blog Hop | Anything Goes

Good Morning Smeared and Smudged Family! Today I'm participating with the Smeared & Smudged members in ANYTHING GOES blog hop! In the states we are coming up on Memorial Day weekend. Several of our family members have served and we always think of them on this day of remembrance. This time of the year much of our landscape is abloom including the pathways along the railroad tracks...I like to think that the poppies I see blooming each year were among those sewn by returning soldiers passing along those tracks on their way back home. So today I share with you this Poppy ATC as mentally I prepare to remember those who've served so that we may live a life with freedoms.

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed my project!

April Monthly Smeared Ink Blog Hop | Decorate an Egg

Good Morning Smeared and Smudged Family! Today I'm participating with the Smeared & Smudged members in a fun egg-themed blog hop! We had to STAMP on an egg! SO FUN! You know I love decorating eggs...with tangles or decoupage or paint! I pierced the top and bottom of the egg and blew it out so my art would last--one time people got upset when I boiled the eggs first, decorated them, photographed them and then cracked and peeled them for egg salad! sometimes art is temporary!

I began by using Radiant Rains from ColourArte and misting my egg to get this lovely pink and green background. [it looks more pink than green in the photos!] I set this aside to dry. The radiant rains have a LOT of sparkle! Next I stamped my new little bird on some tissue with Archival ink and then painted my bird with the yummy Twinkling H2Os from ColorArte! When he was dry I trimmed him out and with Beacon Quick Finish Decoupage I glued him onto the egg. Once dry I added small flowers from Cheery Lynns Tiny Flower set and added yellow Prills for the centers. I misted with the pearl Radiant Rain to finish off the egg!

I wish you could see it in real life...it's so sparkly!

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed my project!

March Monthly Smeared Ink Blog Hop | Alice in Wonderland Madness!

Good Morning Smeared and Smudged Family! This month I'm participating in the Alice in Wonderland Madness Members Blog Hop! Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite subjects to art. SO MUCH FUN! I'm using a rubber stamp from Viva Las VegaStamps today...it's a stamp created from the illustrations of Sir John Tenniel--they have several made into stamps at VLVS.

I created this little fat book page on a piece of canvas paper...I began by swirling on distress ink with my beautiful Enchanted Vine RebeccaBaer.com Collage stencil...the same stencil is later used to get the diamond pattern on the bottom right and the Swirl at the top left. I recently joined the Rebecca Baer Design Team and get to share with you often these awesome Mixed Media tools!! Her Stencil Brushes are AMAZING...more about that at another time! You're here to HOP!  The image was stamped on a piece of scrapbooking paper made to look like a dictionary page. As the image was bigger than my 4×4" square, I altered slightly to get both the Cheshire Cat and Alice on the page. The cat and Alice and a piece of the branch were colored with Prisma Pencils and then painted with Ranger Perfect Pearls Mist in Pearl to add SHIMMER. The cat needed some googly eyes to finish him off.

Below are details of this fun tile! Enjoy!

copper creams were lightly brushed over the top of the raised stenciling.
detail of the swirl in the upper left.
again, copper creams were brushed over the swirls to help them pop

February Smeared Ink Member Blog Hop | Cracked and Broken

Good Morning Smeared and Smudged Family! This month I'm participating in the Cracked and Broken Members Blog Hop and I'm using this festive Behind Digital image. Intentional or not it reminded me of Mardi Gras and while a bit "behind" myself since the celebration was TUESDAY [lol] and still think of this Holy Week as one big celebration!I have chosen to color her in traditional Mardi Gras colors and create a fat book page to crack and embellish. I am using a technique of heating up a thick layer of clear embossing powder, allowing it to cool completely and then cracking it.

Instead of the traditional technique where the whole surface is cracked and then inked, I also embedded a purple webbing in the molten embossing powder. Because the webbing melts when heated, you can see a few areas that I got the heat gun closer to to cause "holes." In one such hole you can see where I cracked the Embossing Powder as well!   Today there is no underlying meaning...just a beautiful image and a fun technique! I hope you enjoy!

November Monthly Member Blog Hop | BRAINZ

Good Morning everyone! I've missed all of my Smeared Ink companions. I was participating in the 31days of Halloween Hop as a Wicked Blogger and then I just disappeared. No note...nothing. I do apologize for that but here is what happened.
My son sustained a 3rd concussion. If' you've been following me long you know about 2 years ago we had a very rough year with my son...he sustained 2 concussions within 6 months of each other and had a very difficult time coming back from them. I've arted and written about that experience here. Since then I've become an advocate for parents dealing with this issue and my door is ALWAYS open to anyone having to go through concussions with their kids.
Then there is my kid--age 14...he's a spazz...I love him...he now looms at 6'½" and is not aware of his height. He was at the UIL Area Finals with my husband for the marching band. They rode charter buses down to the even rather than the old "yellow dogs" and he was not aware that the cubbies above the seats were so close. He stood up quick and knocked his head pretty hard. After several excuses by ALL of us as to why he had a headache, why he was dizzy, why he was nauseous...it became apparent that he had a 3rd concussion. We immediately went into complete cognitive rest--that means NO NO NO electronics, no computers, no phone, no videos, no tv...no no no...No Band, No shop, no noise...no no no. Poor kid. He wanted to so to be better he started giving us less than accurate symptom levels when we'd do the symptom test on him in hopes of getting to get into action sooner. It's always one step forward and three back with this. Today, we are on day 4 of staying at home with complete cognitive rest as we over did on Friday when he had said he was much better.
How this applies to the theme of Transparency....I wish the skull [a Smeared Ink digi image printed on a transparency] was transparent so we could look inside his brain and see where the hurt is and fix it. A concussion occurs when the brain giggles around inside the skull [which seems very hard and opaque] and it hits the sides of the skull. The brain is injured. Something so HARD can be so delicate. To look inside and take away the fear and the depression and the anxiety and the fogginess and the ache and the dizziness...I wish for that. I would give anything to make it better for him--for any dealing with concussions. In retrospect I supposed my airing my personal life today also makes ME transparent. I hope this brings a bit of awareness to those who come in contact with people dealing with concussions...just because their injury is NOT transparent--they're not bleeding or broken or obviously hurt--they are still injured...it's a traumatic brain injury, it's real, it's serious.

Welcome to Day 10 of the 31 Days of Halloween hop with SmearedInk.com! We are almost a third of the way to Halloween and as this is Friday, I am also showcasing a SmearedInk image. I love this little gothic fairy! I've created another ATC [did I mention I love little bits of art?!?]. This time I fussy cut my image out and adhered her to a background that I've inked and doodled on. I colored her with Prisma Color pencils and created a matching text colored with Spectrum Noir. A bit of glitter on the feathers and some white pastel pencil complete the look! I hope you enjoy my project! Please come back tomorrow for more!

Welcome to Day 6 of the 31 Days of Halloween hop with SmearedInk.com! I love this cute little image and decorative paper. I stamped this Viva Las VegaStamps dancing skeleton's image with Archival Ink and distressed the edge of the paper and rubbed yummy distress ink over the top. I added a bit of raffia to the base mat and layered on the papers and cardstock to finish the card.

31 Days of Halloween | Day 5

During the month of October I am participating in a month-long blog hop with some amazing artists. Everyday you will find a new Halloween project on all of the blogs listed below. Welcome to Day 5 of the 31 Days of Halloween hop with SmearedInk.com! On Sundays I like to do a mixed media piece with leftovers from previous projects....I keep a box lid with discarded pieces and bits just for this.

I love the size of a fatbook page for this project--it's traditionally 4×4" square. Like ATCs these little pieces of art are to be traded! I adhere the bits and pieces to the square with gel medium/

I then apply a layer of Gesso to the entire surface and a light coating of orange acrylic.

Next I drybrush on some brown paint. This is when things really start to speak to me. The highlighted textures are my favorite part of this technique.

Now that my base is complete, I stamp the skeleton image with embossing powder adhesive and heat emboss with Black Detail EP. Next I stencil the word SKELETON on the page with Dylusions mist and finally heat emboss a border around the page and highlight the chunkier pieces on the page with vintage black EP.

I hope you enjoyed my fatbook page project! Please join me again tomorrow!

Welcome to Day 4 of the 31 Days of Halloween hop with SmearedInk.com! Today I am creating a square card with my crafty pal Vince's fantastic steampunk witch! Vince created this last year for my annual Steampunk Blog Hop for Halloween and I just LOVE her! She's precolored with or without moon back drop or black&white. This is the precolored with the moon backdrop. I created a frantage-inspired base and then layered my favorite steampunk Cheery Lynn Dies diecut in Black cardstock and heat embossed with Piccolo powders!I love the metal look of this card! I hope you enjoyed my project and will stop by again tomorrow for another project! Thank you!

I am using the Witchy digital image from Smeared Ink and I have colored her with Spectrum Noir markers and layered her on a treebark back ground from Authentique. I've distressed the edges and rubbed brushed corduroy and black marker along the edges to complete the distress...little google eyes peek out from behind the torn places. A burlap strip and string bow finish off the look.
