Church is always fun with visitors. You get to show off your people. Aren't they all so cute everyone?
The Fourth is such a fun day!
We spent the evening on the street eating good food and running around with friends and neighbors.
Guess what we discovered while Robbie was here? Evan is color blind too.
His perception of colors has always been a little off, but what really made us wonder was when he came down the stairs with "red and blue" lines under his eyes.
But they were actually orange and purple lines.
Robbie said something about the possibility of colorblindness, so I googled a colorblind test and had Evan take it.
The first 5 test he didn't "see" the number in all the dots, but then the last 5 tests he easily and quickly saw the numbers in the dots. So for a second I was skeptical. Maybe he just caught on to what the test was asking?
Then I had Robbie and Evan sit beside me and take the test together. They BOTH got the same first tests wrong. They couldn't see anything in those dots! (which was sooo bizarre to me and my functional cones).
But then they both COULD see the last few numbers in the dots.
I wouldn't have totally believed it if Robbie wasn't there "seeing" the same thing as Evan.
Later in the evening Evan called the Dickson's house red. (It's green)
Also did you know Robbie can make some colors morph? I asked what color something was and he said "greyscale" or "light green to dark green...I can make it change".
(something like that, but you get the idea).
I think it's so fascinating we are all walking around seeing different things.
Anyway, the street party was just so much fun. There was bubbles and corndogs and cousins making friends with neighbors.
Then we started lighting fireworks. You know the possibility of things going very wrong?
It's just so much fun.
I love this picture, this moment.
The kids were chasing parachuters, and chasing the stick parts of some explosives,
they were blowing up Lego guys. They would light a bomb and run, then run back to the bomb carcass and see the damage of whatever they blew up.
It was just the most fun you will ever have, and in the middle of it, Gus ran by his mom and gave her a big hug. We barely caught the end of the hug in this pictures, but I asked her what that was about? and she said he was just so overcome with happiness, he had to hug it out.
That sums up the joy of the night.
After all our bombs were expoloded, the kids got into the bed of Jessica's truck and chanted while she drove them open-aired down to the bay for the real danger.
I've tried to describe it so many times here on the blog, but it just cannot be explained.
It is mayhem and war and shock and awe.
I love when visitors come to witness it. The whole horseshoe of the bay goes off for hours and hours.
This year was the safest we've ever felt because they have built up the shore and added some sidewalk.
It's just so fun and crazy.
