SASSY GARDEN!

In 2010 Jane Sassaman had a line of fabric called Sunshine and Shadows,
that I fell in love with. A collection of beautiful Garden Prints that included
Coleus, Jack in the Pulpit, Twigs and Garden Tiles.
I often purge my stash but I just couldn't give this fabric up!
It sat in my stash until last year (2022) when
I found a pattern on PINTEREST I wanted to use.

The pattern was in a 2010 International Quilt Festival magazine that
was no longer in print. I ordered a digital copy of the magazine with
The "Avalon" pattern, by Elizabeth Hartman.

I loved this design that I think looks like garden beds.
The backing was a vibrant mustardy color (in my stash).
I added prints of Jack in the Pulpit for a modern finish!
  WIN WIN!

While visiting my son in Myrtle Beach last September (2023)
we visited Brookgreen Gardens (Garden City, SC) for a photo op!

The E2E Ginko Leaves pattern was Longarm Quilted by
Kim Hensley of Happily Ever Quilting.

This is Eric...my Raider's of the Lost Ark kiddo!

I can't even tell you how much this day meant to me.
Spending time with Eric and my beautiful quilt in a stunning garden
is all this Mom could hope for!

I think he enjoyed it too!

My kid doesn't like to be in photos nor does he like any extra
attention when out and about.
Sew this day was a gift from God...
as Eric will always be!

AIRING OF THE QUILTS 2022

I have attended the Sarasota Modern Quilt Guilds outdoor show
several times.  I get sew excited just thinking about this one.

I don't have all the makers names, sew just enjoy the pics
and pretend you are there with me, enjoying all the amazing
makers and makes.

THIS was my favorite!
I am not usually a solid color girl.
These colors set on the charcoal gray...screamed
STOP and look at me.
The quilting in an of itself was amazing.
The maker sent it out for long arm quilting.

A beautiful  traditional Lonestar top
in a Modern remake.

I am always drawn to a 'wonky" block.
These flying geese were amazing!

SEE YOU CAN CUT OFF POINTS!

While we are tracking flying geese...
this one caught my eye!

Sometimes a design element done in a different way
catches my attention. One should look beyond the fabric prints
to see the design.  i.e. I don't care for the prints but like the design.

NOW we are talking about a wonky log cabin modern design
I totally love!

One design idea into 3 pieces.

This quilt was a great design of Half Square Triangles

I enjoyed the design of this but
the quilting is what really made this amazing!

I found some Charley Harper fabric quilts as well.
These were a challenge using same CH fabrics

And this CH really chirped!

Lots of challenge quilts.

Vibrant colors in a fun design, always catch my attention.

All that being said...
enjoy the rest of what I captured at
"The Airing of The Quilts"

GREAT SHOW!
SMQG!!!!!!

If you are ever near Venice, FL the second weekend of February...
make sure you visit this FREE quilt show.
You'll be glad you did!

2020 COLUMBUS MODERN QUILTERS REVEAL

My modern quilting group,
The Columbus Modern Quilters
recently had an on-line reveal of our 2020 Mystery Quilt

We received a total of 7 Clues.
The last was the layout of this top.
I grabbed some screen shots.
(photos by quilters, power point by Leigh Morgan)

This is my Mystery Quilt.
My hubby thinks it looks like a Native American design.
I'll go with that....when deciding the name.
I plan to quilt this one in 2021.

Rachel never disappoints with her work.
There were lots of little HTS left over from
one of the blocks...they ended up in the backing.

Leslie brought some beautiful colors to the cutting table.
We had an option for borders, 1, 2 or none.
She used a white for the small border and a pink batik
that matches the inside squares of the stars.

Heather showed us how a vibrant background
makes her design shine.  Just like her little girl.

Tami gave us a softer look and used
slub canvas fabrics.

I wish more finishes were available to see.
2021 will get us back together, meeting in person.
I will guess that first meeting might be an
entire day of "show n tell"
Wouldn't that be wonderful!

MODERNLY AMISH?

When I travel to Amish Country, in Holmes County Ohio
I don't expect to find anything "modern".
Once in awhile a fabric might catch my eye.

til one day...this past October
I stopped at a shop I have heard of for many years.
Mostly as a Bernina repair shop, not much fabric.

It was bigger than I thought and lots of Bernina's greeted me as I entered.

More fabric than I expected.

THEN I made a sharp left and saw the newly built classroom
It was FULL of modern quilts!.

Sassafras Lane Designs...quilts all over the walls!

This quilt is made using the Cadence Court pattern

This pattern is Arcadia Avenue

This pattern is Euclid Avenue and  was done in many variations.

And a few by the talented
Krista Moser, The Quilted Life

And I bought this pattern to bring home
It uses 2 1/2" strips and I have plenty of those!
Mapleton Avenue

I was so excited to find a modern heart beat in
the middle of traditional Amishland.

I hope this was NOT just part of the shop hop!
In any case, I was thrilled.
