Just got home from the devotional prayer and as i browse the headlines in Manila, i see stories about Joey-Kris relationship (this issue got negative feedback in PEx's LAFI Forum), Philippine Peso rates P54.93 against the US Dollars (and to think the banner states that the Peso "strengthened"), PGMA's intention to run in 2004 (sabi na nga ba!), bar exam leakage (sheesh... when will we ever move on?).
What i'd like to tackle in this entry is this news:
B.F. offers self as V.P.
"Bayani Fernando, chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), announced his intention to seek nomination as the official vice presidential candidate of Lakas.
He disclosed his political plans at the forum at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City, attended by former education secretary Raul Roco, a declared presidential candidate; MalacaƱang chief of staff Rigoberto Tiglao, Agriculture Secretary Luis Lorenzo and former interior secretary Alfredo Lim." - from abscbnnews.com
My comment
When Bayani Fernando showed what he is capable of as a local official, i believed in him since then. He miraculouslyimproved Marikina City to everyone's surprise and the City even topped the rest of Metro Manila's towns & cities as well. Then his term as the Mayor of Marikina has to come to an end. Because of his accomplishments (i believe), he was appointed as a cabinet member in the Arroyo administration as the Chief of the Metro Manila Development Authority, hoping to make the big metropolis as a "model" city in Luzon, if not the whole Philippines. He has made wonders. He is as brave as a knight battling in a war. In street terms, we can say that the man has "balls." Not withstanding the left & right protests, from street vendors to nature advocates (remember the trees along Katipunan?), and even all kinds of drivers in the highways. All of them developed "hatred" with BF's style. But the man stood his ground. He believed in his principles and carefully put into action his plans... for a limited time at that since the term of the government which gave him the seat is fast reaching its end and even with a few more months left, it is already busy in campaigning for its 'political life'.
BF is one public official i will always admire. He gets things done, as his slogan in Marikina states: "BF gets it done!" I always believe that he is a very effective law enforcer, hence the Chairmanship of MMDA is a good start for him. And i was hoping that he remains in the cabinet until his retiring age but i never wanted him in any electoral position. Not as Congressman, not as Senator, not even as the country's Vice President. What will he do there? Will the power he had over the years that he had practised as a local official be as effective when he seats in the National level?
Its like putting a cake in a cone, whereas the cone can serve better with an ice cream in it. Its simply sad.
