So...
There's something you might not know about me. I feel we've all been friends long enough now that I can share this affliction honestly with you.
So...
Ahem...
Cough, cough...
It's just that...well...
I can't count.
Really. I can't. I failed addition in second grade, but I was so darned adorable that the mean, ruler yielding, knuckle assaulting nuns just passed me anyway.
Yeah.
So...I'm pretty sure my little SC offering meets ALL THE CRITERIA FOR THIS WEEK (who wrote this ridiculously hard prompt anyway???!!!...grrrr!)...
...but if I used too many words, please don't tell me because it will make me all insecure about my mathematical shortcomings...and there will be a lot of weeping and wailing around here and Mr. Jenny won't like it.
At all.
So...
Ummm...
Yeah.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
You don't believe me? Seriously? Okay then...you asked for it...here's a picture of me in second grade...
Now you believe me, right?
Okay.
So...
Moving on...
Ahem...
An Ode to Children Celebrating Autumn in the Desert
(the prompt is in bold and feel free to sing this to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star)
Scatter, scatter leaves of paper
On the grass that’s brown and dried!
Make a pile for grandkids to jump in!
Make a pile that’s deep and wide!
I tell the Grands that in the autumn
children do this in cooler climes.
“Grandma,” they gripe, “We’re hot and sweaty…
Is it time to go inside?”
This little ditty is linked to Saturday Centus and many little stories written by people who can actually count. To visit them, just click here.

lovely autumn thoughts...
Now that's ingenuity...or insanity, sometimes I can't tell which!
Great job, and it doesn't matter how many words you use, you're the boss!
I thought you might have miscalculated but figured we can count (excuse the pun) on you. It worked, eventually. No worries.
You are adorable in that picture, especially with those glasses.
Love your centus about your grandkids too. Granparents go to no end for their grands.
xoRobyn
Despite any miscalculation (but who's counting) the adorable photo of you, and your ditty to the grandlittles, by far make up for any shortcomings (pun intended). Love you!
That is you! What an adorable picture. I had glasses like that too.
It sounds a lot like our autumn. You need to go inside afterwards, turn the A/C way down, and drink lots of hot apple cider.
i'm a pretty poor counter myself but
i can spell . . . sort of.
Loved the pic of you and those glasses. It's strange but you don't look that different, ha. I won't say that you went over the limit because it is your centus and you can do what you want lol.
Still hot there too, huh?
Cute pic!
Who's counting, Jenny?
This is too cute, especially the photo of you. (I had Cat-Eye glasses, too)! I get all warm and fuzzy when you write about your Grandlittles.
Namaste..........cj
No wonder your grandlittles are so cute:-) I always forget that some places don't really experience winter quite like those of us in the Midwest as it's looking it is getting ready to start now anytime:-(
poor little littles ... deprived of a normal childhood, jumping into decaying leaves, usually wet and sometimes slimy ... depending on the amount of rot ... then rolling in them and picking up the odd bug feasting in the slime ... gleefully yelling "look mommy, i think i squished a slug!!!" ah yes, the joys of leaf piles
do the leaves in arizona really know that it's time for them to change color and fall of the trees?
Loved it.
Hey, you're the boss, right?
;)
PS. That pic of you is adorable.
I used to get 25 cents for raking the leaves in my aunts yard. I did not want to jump in those piles and have to start over. She had a big yard and we were underpaid!! Love those glasses You are so cute!
It sang wonderfully, and yes, you really were adorable! :o) x
Makes me want to go jump into some leaves and relive my younger years!!
xoxo
Oh, Jenny,
It's wonderful. And it says so much about the life you all lead in arid Arizona. And it is singable! I have sung it, as I have sung every single entry for this week's challenge. Yes, I give you A+ and it is not just because you are so cute.
Best wishes & hugs from a windswept, damp and cool Sweden!

Excuse me....are you Jenny Matlock? Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh! You are! You're her!
Cute cute cute photo, Matlock. You were born with a HUGE personality.
And the poem made me laugh. I can picture you trying to tell the grands what kids in cooler climates do. You made me laugh!
Ha! Love the ditty and that 2nd grade pic.

Heartwarming and oh so sweet...Bravo !
Those pretty grandlittles are the ones who have claim on every good thing we can dish out alright...and look at cute little Jenny in 2nd grade in those stylish glasses...darn those stinkin' mean nuns and their rulers ( my hubs had a few of those during his school days too )
Spring and Autumn - love the way the two come together in your poem.
Don't try to hide behind that photo with the cute glasses!! Others may fall for that scheme, but NOT ME! You are trying to distract us with cuteness so we won't gang up on you for that prompt!!!
Jenny---You just make me laugh!!!
And that's a good thing!!!!
Melinda
I LOVE this....it is just too darn cute.
And you??? YOU???? You are adorable now and then. I would have passed you as well.
xoxoxo
Oh how adorable you were! I had re-write mine several times to keep it under the word limit! I'd hate to have to rake up paper leaves, but as silly as I am with my grands, it's probably something I'd do for them! Cute poem. laurie @ Battling My Inner Critic
I also began wearing glasses in the second grade and had a pair of blue cat eyes :) You are a cutie, Jenny!
Awww lol...you look cute and like you were packed full of personality! ;)
The poem is excellent too! Puts me in the fallish mood...
You were adorable in that picture. Hugs
You look just like you! So cute!
cute pic, I like the stylish glasses. nice poem.
I love the autumn and playing in the leaves with the my little girls. Of course they too old for such silliness but I am not.
Very enjoyable and singable verses!
