Paper Sweeties November 2015 Inspiration Challenge

Sunday, November 1, 2015

I hope everyone had a scary-fun Halloween yesterday! Now, it's time to gear up for Thanksgiving, and what better way to get started than with an Autumn/Thanksgiving Inspiration Challenge from Paper Sweeties! Whatever theme you decide to go with, the warm color palette is sure to inspire you to create something fabulous! I hope you'll play along with us.
I colored sweet Abigail and dressed her in an Indian maiden costume from the Give Thanks stamp set, for a Thanksgiving card. I paper pieced her dress from a scrap that reminded me of leather and dressed it up a bit by stamping the headband design as a belt, which I colored with Spica pens. The pumpkin image and sentiment are both from the same stamp set. And, since every card needs a little sparkle, I added a few Paper Sweeties Black Cherry sequins and filled each of them with Lime Green Stickles.

Whenever I add patterned or embossed paper to a sentiment panel, I like to adhere it to the white cardstock before die cutting. I like the look of the embossed edge extending over the entire piece. I only had a tiny bit of the dotted paper left, so I slipped it just under the edge of the sentiment layer die cut to add some color and to give the front and the inside more cohesion.

I've already taken a peek at some of the cards from the DT, and they are beautiful. You won't want to miss a single one:

Paper Sweeties October 2015 Inspiration Challenge

Thursday, October 1, 2015

It's Inspiration Challenge time at Paper Sweeties, and I love the color palette for this one. Being October, there are always so many orange/green/purple/black challenges out there, but Debbie has given us a more subdued palette to work with, and I just loved using it to create a cute monochromatic Halloween card.
This was a super simple card to put together, but the stamping and masking for the Halloween scene took a bit of effort. And, it was totally worth it! To create this scene, I first stamped all the images I wanted to use (from 4 different sets, all listed in my card recipe at the end of the post) onto a piece of scrap copy paper, and fussy cut each one of them. Then, I mapped out the scene to determine how to layer the masks. When you have layered images, especially this many images, you have to keep perspective in mind, and the images have to be stamped and masked in order from the "closest" image all the way to the last image in the background. For example, this scene required that I stamp the images in this order: hat, puppy, pumpkin, dog bowl and bones, dog house, broom, weather vane, ground, and tree. After each stamp, I put repositionable tape on the back of it's mask and masked the image. It can get a little tricky once you have several masks because all the images are fully stamped, so the masks start looking like a jumbled mess, but when you are finished and remove all the masks, and the final complete scene is revealed, it is fascinating to see!

I colored the image with Copics in several shades of brown and gray, then added white highlights with a paint pen. You might notice a lot of highlights on the dog bowl. My pen blobbed and, since I can't remove white paint from a colored image without totally messing it up, I tried to correct it by incorporating it into the scene. Not a great job there, but I can live with it. ;) I added a few Paper Sweeties Gold flower sequins for shine and filled them with a black Pearl Pen dot.
On the inside of the card, I used scraps from the black flag that is on the front for a couple of small flags, as well as the same embossed design for the background. The punny sentiment and broom are both from the Best Witches stamp set.

I hope you'll join us in this month's challenge! There is a Paper Sweeties' Boutique Gift Certificate up for grabs!!!

Before you get crafty, be sure to check out the rest of the Paper Sweeties' DT blogs, as well as the talented Lisa Bzibziak, our October Guest Designer. Their creations this month are UH-MA-ZING!!!

----Paper Sweeties August Inspiration Challenge #34---- Happy Birthday

Saturday, August 1, 2015

Time to celebrate!!! Someone is turning three years old this month!

Happy Birthday, Paper Sweeties!

In honor of this happy occasion, Paper Sweeties is having a month-long celebration! You are definitely going to want to join us for this celebration because, not only will Debbie be revealing 4 brand new, adorable stamp sets and 3 coordinating Sweet Cuts die sets this month, but there are going to be prizes--All Month Long, beginning with a Happy Birthday Inspiration Challenge:
Abigail is all decked out in her best party dress, from the Jelly Bean Time stamp set, for this special birthday party, including pink pearl jewelry. She is colored with Copics and I used Liquid Pearls for her jewelry. The dress is paper pieced, and I colored the sash then added sparkly Stickles on the flowers there, and on her shoes. Her party hat, cake, and gift are from the Celebrate stamp set. The cake stamp was perfect for Paper Sweeties' third birthday, with it's 3 candles, and, of course, for Paper Sweeties, there is plenty of pink, sparkly frosting. I fussy cut the gift from a piece of patterned paper and colored the bow and ribbon with an opaque gel pen. The white dots are made with a Snow Marker, which added a fun texture. The table was paper pieced using a stamp from the I'm Having a Tea Party stamp set.

For the birthday banner, from the Hello Friend stamp set, I stamped the banner image twice onto patterned paper, then die cut it with the coordinating Sweet Cuts die in the Be Happy set. Then, I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment with Versamark ink, and sprinkled it with both gold embossing powder and pink (Kunzite) glitter. I had to heat it from the back to keep the glitter from blowing away, but I really like the subtle touch of pink it adds. You can't see it in this photo, but after adding the sentiment to the banner, I cut just that center section out and popped it up with foam tape onto the other stamped and die cut banner.

Here's the inspiration photo for the Happy Birthday challenge. Don't those colors (and the cupcakes) look yummy? ;)

The inside of this card has the same white frame as on the front of the card, and I've added a patterned scalloped border inside on the top edge. The sweet little balloon is another image from the Celebrate stamp set.

You won't believe how cute the rest of the DT's cards are! Be sure to check them out. Also, Paper Sweeties Alumni Designers are joining us for this most special of occasions, and you'll definitely want to see what they've created, too!

The Birthday Celebration is going to be ON for the entire month of August! Be sure to keep checking for new ways to win prizes all month!

------- Paper Sweeties July Inspiration Challenge #33 ------- Red, White & Blue

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

Happy 4th of July! In keeping with America's upcoming birthday celebration, Paper Sweeties' July Inspiration Challenge is Red, White, & Blue. I hope you'll play along with us.
I went shabby with my card, distressing all the edges with my Distrezz-It-All and with ink. I colored the doily with several colors of ink sprays. The star stitch on my sewing machine was perfect for the top edge of the striped paper. I used Paper Sweeties' Beautiful stamp set for the sentiment and stamped frame, and cut it out with the coordinating Beautiful Little Wishes Sweet Cuts die set. The bow is made from Sugar Sprinkles Seam Binding and I've used Apple Pie and Sugar Sprinkles sequins in several places, including the top of a blue button, which I distressed with sand paper and "antiqued" with brown acrylic paint. To finish off the card, I melted Shabby White Frantage Embossing Powder in a few places.

For the inside, I used scraps from the front of the card to make a patriotic frame around the sentiment panel.

Be sure to visit the rest of the design team, as well as our July Guest Designer, Lin Brandyberry, for more Red, White & Blue inspiration, then pop over to the Paper Sweeties blog and link up your own creation for a chance to with a Paper Sweeties Gift Certificate!

Paper Sweeties June Release Rewind!

Tuesday, June 16, 2015

To finish off Paper Sweeties' Release Week, we have a Release Rewind where we combine new products with old.
I decided to dress Jake and Emma up in some beach attire from the new Surf's Up and At the Beach stamp sets. I love that you can move Emma's pigtails just by snipping them and gluing them back on wherever you want them. I thought they should be low for this card. I colored both of the kiddos with Copics then paper pieced their swimsuits. The embossed sentiment is from the At the Beach set, too. I accidentally used a somewhat chunky embossing powder, so the font isn't as fine as it could be, but I didn't have another piece of that paper, so I went with the chunky look anyway.

This entire beachy release is one of my favs! Not only are the stamps super cute, but every single stamp and Sweet Cuts die in every one of the new sets works well together. And, it turns out, the new releases "play well with others," too. Check out my Teamies' blogs for more fabulous ideas for combining new and old sets:

Paper Sweeties June Release Sneak Peeks!

Saturday, June 13, 2015

Summer is finally here and Paper Sweeties' June new releases are perfect for a fun, summer-time project. Fair warning, though...you are going to want to get every single new set. They are so cute, and they all work great together!
For this card, I used the new Surf's Up stamp set and Let's Go to the Beach die set. I fussy cut the surf board stamp and layered 3 wave die cuts behind it. I sponged some white ink along the tops of the waves to give each layer a little more definition. How do you like that funky zig zag stitching? I love trying new stitches on my sewing machine.
I made the frame on the inside panel by using an embossing diffuser, inking the edges of the folder before embossing. Just for kicks, I added tiny fishtail banners to the inside to match those on the front of the card.

I'll be back tomorrow with another new release card, but in the meantime, here's a little teaser of what's to come:

Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

Friday, June 5, 2015

Hello Friends! The Summer Edition of the Coffee Lover's Blog Hop is happening from today until June 12th, and while I don't have any coffee or tea Paper Sweeties stamps yet, I was able to improvise so that I could participate in the blog hop.

I used a flower pot from the Garden Time stamp set to create a cute glass of sweet iced tea. I used Summer Sky ink to stamp the image then colored the tea with Copics. To get a few ice cubes in the glass, I stamped them with a chisel tipped Brushstix and white pigment ink. A good coating of UTEE melted on the tea glass gives it a nice glassy finish. The "Sweet" sentiment is from the Happy Sweet Cuts die set. I cut several layers and glued them together for stability. All my supplies are listed below.

Coffee-Lovers

Paper Sweeties is a "Super Sponsor" for the hop and has offered a $50 gift certificate to one lucky hop participant!

Mojo Monday 400 Contest and Designer Search!

Thursday, June 4, 2015

Mojo Monday is celebrating it's 400th sketch challenge this week! Whoo Hoo! Congratulations Julee!!! I have a special fondness in my heart for Mojo Monday. It was the very first challenge I entered when I started making cards 4 years ago (ok, I put a link to that first card, but be gentle with any comments; I was brand new at cardmaking). A few months later, I kicked off my own blog with another Mojo Monday challenge entry. So, while I haven't been with Mojo Monday since it's beginning, Mojo Monday has been with me since mine!

To celebrate this Mojo milestone, Julee is doing two things: using her very first sketch for this week's challenge, and offering two participants a spot on the Mojo Monday DT! Exciting!!! I had a blast creating my own embossed background paper for this card, using the Verve Bloom & Grow stamps, probably my most used Verve set.
I love how the background turned out, and it was so easy to make. I just spritzed a piece of white cardstock with water, then used Dylusions Ink Sprays to add color. After drying it completely, I stamped the leaves from the Bloom & Grow set in Versamark ink and heat embossed them with copper embossing powder. To give the ink sprays a softer look, I sprayed water over the entire sheet one more time after embossing, then let the paper air dry in a book press so it would dry flat. The sentiment, heat embossed in copper, is from the On Occasion stamp set

The inside of the card has a simple message, from a Penny Black stamp set, which might seem odd for a Father's Day card, but it is perfect for my husband. Our sweet, sweet daughter is with us today because eleven years ago my husband was willing to trade in his long-anticipated, quiet, peaceful, golf-filled retirement days for my tiny, newborn granddaughter. And, he didn't just agree to adopt her, he insisted on it, and I am grateful for that selfless act every single day (even when I'm ticked off and want to lock him outside of the house!) ;)

I hope that the next time I post a Mojo Monday card it's as a member of the DT, but even if I'm not one of the lucky winners of a DT spot, I'll continue to enjoy Julee's sketches and challenges, both at Mojo Monday and Viva la Verve

Thanks for stopping by, and have a Mojo-filled day!
