August Sunflowers for MMSC68

Oh I had so much fun with the sketch this week at Midnight Madness.  The MM team is so creative - in both sketches and the cards they showcase.  This week tops them all I think - thought I might say that each and every week - LOL!!

For the card this week I chose Priscilla's own Sunflowers digital stamp.  I love sunflowers - particularly at the end of summer when the sun and sky late in the day are warm golden yellows.  They just sort of fit this time of year perfectly don't you think?

I used the single sunflower offered in the set (which is to die for I might add) and resized it three times.  I layered each size as a grouping in my photoshop software to get this image on my card.  The flowers were colored with Copic markers and then lots of glitter was applied in a couple different shades of yellow.  For the sunflower centers, I added Stickles in Cinnamon and Copper colors.  You can see all the sparkles this card has better in the detail photo below.

To frame the sunflowers image, I used Nestibilities Labels 5 die by placing it and tracing the inside line of the die around the image carefully making sure that each one of the flower overlaps the outer edges of the die. It was cut out by hand and layered on one cut with the die in SU Handsome Hunter cardstock.  The background was colored using Pebbles metallic cream chalks and then distressed on the edges with Tim Holtz Tea Dye distress ink.

The background papers were stamped using Papertrey Ink's Damask background stamp on Wild Wasabi paper with Hunter green ink.  The script is also PTI's Background Basics-Text Style and was stamped in Hunter on Kraft cardstock which was also distressed with Tea Dye ink.  The "Lattice" border trim piece was a die from Spellbinders Borderabilities.  I laced shimmery copper twine around it for some extra sparkle.  Matching copper twine was used for the embellishment in the top right corner of the image.  Don't you just love the richness of the Hunter green with the warm golden yellow of the flowers in this card?  It speaks late summer to me and is the perfect August card.

Thanks so much for stopping by...come back again soon!

Italian Shoes - PDCC41

This week at the Play Date Cafe the challenge is all about "Italian Style" and I love the warm Tuscany colors. For this challenge, I took the Italian theme literally and with some humor! I was feeling a bit quirky tonight and thought I'd have some fun with it this week!

I created my own background paper by first brushing ink onto SU Vanilla cardstock with my color dusters and masking tape - just repositioning it several times to get the colors overlapping.  I used Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Scattered Straw, Rusty Hinge and Barn Door.

The images stamped in a collage fashion are from a new set that I got this past weekend at the annual Heirloom Stamp Show near me.  They are TJ Designs Rubber Stamps "Italian Artist" collection.  (I told you I took this Italian Style challenge literally-LOL!)  I love these stamps and I really like doing these collage-type backgrounds.  The images are stamped in Vintage Photo distress ink and the same ink was used to distress the edges of the paper.  The background was then embossed using a flourish-type folder from Cuttlebug (name unknown).  You can see the additional texture it provides on the background panel in the close-up photo below.

The spaghetti shoe image and saying are from Lockhart Stamp Co. (2038 and 10015) and colored using my Copic markers.  I masked it off and stamped a starburst stamp from Just For Fun rubber stamps in the Scattered Straw and Rusty Hinge ink to tone down the brightness of the cardstock and help in blending it in with the intense colors of the background.  It was die cut with a Spellbinders Label 5 die and mounted on a traced image of the same die but cut with my scissors.  The base cardstock was SU Ruby Red and Peach Parfait.  I tried the scrunched up ribbon technique (yes, scrunched up is the technical term !!) for the first time and added a PTI vintage button to the bow to finish things off.

I like the warm colors and how this card turned out - especially the background paper.  Tell me what you think.....?  Thanks for stopping by : )

Ciao!

The Fairest Flower - MMSC63

Thank goodness for weekends!  Last week I was back to work from a two week vacation - one that I enjoyed by compulsively participating in several card challenges and meeting some incredible women online.  Oh how I wish everyday was vacation!  So I'm back to savoring my weekends for making cards and getting all the challenges done!

This card is for the Midnight Madness sketch challenge MMSC63.  I love this sketch and have been contemplating what I was going to do for it during my endless work meetings all week!

I thought this sketch looked a bit vintage - I visualized the scalloped edge as lace right away.  So, I decided to use a new stamp set I discovered at a local scrapbook store that I visited on vacation.  The set is from Oxford Impressions called "The Fairest Flower".  What is unique in the set are the stamps that look like vintage photographs!  I don't really know how they do it, but it is so cool how they turn out.  This card uses one of the photo images from the set as well as the vintage-looking tulips and the coordinating script.

When using the stamps, I found that Versafine dye inkpads work the best and I was able to find the ink in "Vintage Sepia".  It is a perfect ink for these stamps.  The child on my card was stamped using this ink on Stampin' Up Vanilla cardstock.  I cut out the image and distressed the edges with Tim Holtz "Vintage Photo" distress ink.  I used the same distress ink on the edges of just about everything on this card - even the flowers - to add that antique look and tone down some of the brighter colors.  I also used "Antique Linen" distress ink on the main tulip panel.

The tulips were stamped using Rich Razzleberry and Melon Mambo watercolor markers - stamped twice without reinking the stamp.  I used Sahara Sand for the text stamp and stamped over the tulips. And of course, all the colors were inspired by the wonderful DP from KaiserCraft's "Gypsy Sisters Collection" - when I saw it I knew it would be perfect for this vintage card that I was creating in my head.

Welcome to the Midnight Madness Design Team and others visiting my blog. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Mother's Favorite

Isn't this the most beautiful designer paper you've ever laid eyes on?  I thought so too!  It took my breath away when I pulled it off the shelf at The Scrapbook Zone and I snatched up a piece to do a card for my Mom because the colors reminded me of her.  This gorgeous paper is "Jubilee Bright Flowers" from K&Company.

I wanted this paper to be a main focus of the card and not be covered up by a large stamped image panel (or a small one for that matter).  I cut it to fill the entire card front without showing a border of the Baja Breeze cardstock underneath to maximize the size of the lighter and darker lavender flowers on it. I just couldn't bear cutting more than was necessary of this DP!

To frame the stamped "Mother" image and still let the DP show through, I used my Spellbinders Foliage Frame die and cut out two frames - one in Stampin' Ups Baja Breeze and one in Blue Bayou to act as the frame shadow and add some depth. I cut down the sides of the frame to fit this 5 1/2-inch square card.  I distressed the frame with Tim Holtz Antique Linen, Antique Rose and Tea Dye distress inks.  The "Mother" stamp is from Papertrey Ink and was stamped in VersaMark on the designer paper and then embossed with white embossing powder.
The real beauties here are the flowers that I made using a Paper Shapers 2-inch scallop circle punch and Stampin' Up scallop circle punch that is a bit smaller (maybe 1 1/2-inches).  To do these I punched several scallop circles in Stampin' Ups Pale Plum and  Perfect Plum cardstock and crumpled them up several times to break down the fibers and stiffness of the cardstock.  I sponged a little Razzleberry ink on the Pale Plum and Craft White on the Perfect Plum after they were crumpled sufficiently.  Then I just stacked them up together and punched a hole for the K&Company tapestry brads.  They are adherred using super adhesive ScorTape.  The Stampin' Up Sweet Pea stitched felt leaves went perfectly with the flowers and they were also adherred with the ScorTape.

Other finishing touches are the shimmer mist that was sprayed lightly on the flowers and the frame to add a little sparkle to the card and the pearl dots in the corners and on the top and bottom of the frame.

I'm pretty pleased with how this card turned out - all the credit goes to the beautiful K&Company paper!  Let me know what you think!

Thanks for stopping by!
