Hougang United started the second half of the S-League on the right track with a narrow 1-0 win over Tanjong Pagar United, ending the Jaguar’s streak of three 1-0 victories. The Cheetahs themselves too, had ended a streak of their own after entering the mid-season break with six straight defeats on the trot, dropping into the bottom three.

Motivated to end the run, they started the game sprinting out of the blocks and managed to hit the post in the second minute through an Ante Barac’s freekick.

However, the bright start failed to result in any end product for Hougang allowing the Jaguars to slowly gain a foothold on the game.

Hougang United coach Nenad Bacina cut a relieved figure after seeing his side end a six-game losing streak in the Great Eastern-YEO's S.League on Thursday evening.

The Cheetahs headed into their game against Tanjong Pagar United at the Jalan Besar Stadium without a point from their last six league outings, but managed to grab a 1-0 win thanks to Jordan Webb's well-taken volley in the 65th minute.

Match Preview: Tanjong Pagar vs Hougang

By www.hgfc.com.sg
Match Day: Thursday, 14th June 2012, 7.45 PM
Venue: Jalan Besar Stadium
Ticket Price: Adults $5, Students $1

S-League has returned for the 2nd half of the season, as the first live game will feature the Mighty Cheetahs of Hougang vs Tanjong Pagar United

Hougang will start this game in 11th place, after having their bright starts early this season. Six defeats in a row from March till May handed Hougang a freefall down the table. However, they had met the Jaguars twice this season, and both undefeated. This is the game that they will be looking forward to banish the ghost of the last six league games, which none earned the Cheetahs a single point..

Hougang met the Jaguars earlier in February, with Jordan Webb and Takaya Kawanabe scoring for both the Cheetahs and the Jaguar respectively. Hougang then beat the Jaguars on penalties in the Singapore Cup last month.

However, the Cheetahs need to be wary the Jaguars’ new signing forward, in the form of Haitien Gilbert Bayonne. The forward was bought in to shore things up in the Jag’s attack and also to provide main striker Takaya Kawanabe a decent striker that they were in need of for the last two seasons.

Hougang will be playing this game without former centreback Khayrulhayat Jumat, who have since left the Cheetahs for Geylang United. We will wish him all the best in his future endeavours…

Come on Hougang! NO Surrender! (SOURCE)

The Hougang faithfuls have finally have something to cheer about, at the Queenstown Stadium yesterday.

Hougang United have finally broke their losing streak of six games – this time, beating the ever-improving Jaguars in the RHB Singapore Cup preliminary rounds in penalty shootout.

Hougang made changes to the side who played against Courts Young Lions – Ignatius Ang dropping back to the bench. Fazly Hasan was given his first start for Hougang, in place of Faizal Amir. Syaqir Sulaiman, however, was handed a starting berth in the heart of the five-man midfield, alongside Ante Barac and Azhar Sairudin.

Gombak United and Hougang United will meet in the quarter-finals of the RHB Singapore Cup after both sides recorded wins on Sunday.

Gombak, who were up against foreign side Harimau Muda B in their opening round match at the Jurong West Stadium, took the lead after just 11 minutes when Christopher Anderson fired them in front.

Fairoz Hasan then doubled the Bulls' lead in the 53rd minute before K. Vikraman wrapped things up when he grabbed a third nine minutes from time.

Up next for Gombak will be a quarter-final clash with Hougang, who beat Tanjong Pagar United 4-3 on penalties after the game had ended 1-1 after 120 minutes.

After a goalless first half at the Queenstown Stadium, the Cheetahs went ahead when Mamadou Diallo found the back of the net nine minutes after the break.

However, the Jaguars hit back through Hafiz Osman in the 70th minute and with neither side being able to find the winner, the game went to penalties.

With the score at 3-3 after misses by Hougang's Ignatius Ang and Tanjong Pagar's Jonathan Xu, Stanislav Vidakovic netted his attempt to put the Cheetahs in front before Jang In-jun missed his attempt, sending the Jaguars out in the process. (SOURCE)

The Cheetahs will be looking to kickstart their Singapore Cup foray this season, starting with a trip to Queenstown Stadium where they take on the improving Tanjong Pagar United this Sunday.

Much will be anticipated in this campaign, when the Cheetahs surprised the lot last season, eventually finishing fourth in this competition. The Hougang faithfuls will be looking forward for the Cheetahs to put on the impressive run again this season, after dismal results in league this time round.

The Jaguars will be no pushovers either. They are currently on a three-match unbeaten run, stunning Home United and Balestier Khalsa on the way. The Jags are currently on 8th position, above Hougang, who are languishing on 11th.

Hougang United and Tanjong Pagar played out a 1-1 stalemate in their 2012 Great Eastern YEO’s S-League opener at the Hougang Stadium on Thursday night.

Hougang, who recorded their highest ever league finish of seventh last season, drew first blood in the 23rd minute thanks to diminutive forward Jordan Webb but Japanese midfielder Takaya Kawanabe leveled proceedings for the Jaguars just five minutes later.

Tanjong Pagar coach Terry Pathmanathan hailed his side's character after fighting back from a goal down to claim their maiden point of the new campaign.

"We conceded the first goal, but we didn't collapse, and within (five minutes), we got one back," Pathmanathan was quoted as saying by The New Paper after the encounter.

"Unlike last year, we didn't get hammered in our opening game, and our players will grow in confidence."

Cheetahs tactician Nenad Bacina was disappointed that his charges failed to pick up a victory.

"I think we controlled the game, especially in the first half, and deserved more than one point," Bacina commented to The New Paper.

"We will go out to win our next game against the Young Lions." - ESPNSTAR

The opening night of the 2012 season brought the Jaguars of Tanjong Pajar United to Hougang United’s home ground at Hougang Stadium.

That, of course, triggers memories of the corresponding fixture last year, which yielded a heart-stopping 4-3 thriller that still sits in the back of many fans’ minds, and they could be forgiven for expecting something similar in this ‘catfight’.

Hougang did what they could, dominating large parts of the game, but in the end the storyline did not play out as they would have hoped, as the visitors put up a valiant display to secure a 1-1 draw.

Hougang make comeback blitz at Clementi

Paul Green

TPUFC 1 - 3 HGFC

In what looked initially like being a humdrum affair at Clementi Stadium on Saturday night, visitors Hougang United overcame a 0-1 deficit early in the second half to blitz home side Tanjong Pagar United 3-1, thanks largely to an electric hat-trick inside five minutes by injury-prone Diego de Oliveira.

It was of course a wholehearted team effort that won the day, though the three-goal haul certainly turned things around, totally deflating a team that had outshone them completely in a goalless first half.

Hougang, urged on by their most vocal contingent of supporters in a long while, including their own Hougang MP Yaw Shin Leong, who wore the Cheetahs’ colours as proudly as any of the other ‘Hools’, as the fans called themselves, proved too good on the night.

Match Report: Hougang 4:3 Tanjong Pagar

Photo: St mufc
HGFC 4 - 3 TPUFC

Hougang United claimed their third victory in 7 days with last night's 4-3 scrappy win against Tanjong Pagar United.

But the victory did not come easy for the host as they lost the initiative from leading 3-0 just after the break, to allow the Jaguars to level things at 3-3, only for Jordan Webb to rescue the orange black outfit in the dying minutes.

Light rain failed to dampen the mood, as the Cheetahs started the match as expected, and seven minutes from the whistle veteran Md Noor Ali commenced the goals galore with a simple header from a corner.

Match Preview: Hougang vs Tanjong Pagar

After Tuesday's 2-0 win over Balestier Khalsa, Hougang United continue to march on the upturn as the North Easterners host the Jaguars of Tanjong Pagar this Thursday, in another home match for the Cheetahs.

Tanjong Pagar United who have just lifted themselves off the bottom of the table with their 3-1 victory over Courts Young Lions will want to bank on their new found inspiration prior to the Hougang clash.

The North Easterners pay the Westsiders a visit on Monday night that will see two clubs of the highest negative goal differences duke it out in the fields of Clementi Stadium.

Tanjong Pagar's 3 nil slum to Gombak United has once again rooted them to the 12th spot and compounding their morbid start to this season's S-League.
