The Great Eastern-YEO's S.League title race will go down to the final week after DPMM FC stayed in contention with a 3-1 win over Hougang United on Wednesday.

After the hosts took the lead in the 10th minute through an opportunistic strike by Jordan Webb, DPMM hit back six minutes before the half-hour mark when Azwan Saleh curled home a delightful freekick.

Patrick da Silva then scored six minutes after the break to put the visitors in front, before Ampuan Nurul  Azami made sure of the three points when he added a third from close range.

The victory was enough to keep alive DPMM's title hopes as they are now three points behind leaders Tampines Rovers, but with a better goal difference, but things were far from smooth-sailing as they fell behind after just ten minutes, when their failure to clear a Fazly Hasan cross saw Webb pounce inside the area and plant a shot into the back of the net.

The equation is simple for DPMM - Win, or they can forget about winning the title.

With only four points separating them and league leaders Tampines Rovers,  three points against Hougang United will close the gap between them and the Stags to just a point as both teams head into the final fixture.

A draw at the Hougang Stadium would be enough mathematically, but they Wasps will still need Harimau Muda to do them a favour by beating Tampines next week to ensure that it happens. A defeat, of course, would mean that they finish runners-up.

DPMM beat struggling Woodlands 2-1 in their last game on Sunday to record their fourth consecutive victory, albeit unconvincingly as they needed captain Rosmin Kamis’ second-half goal to earn the win against the Rams who had taken a shock lead in the first half. Lucky for them, they had Striker Shahrazen Said, who scored the equalising goal just before the break.

Their opponents for tonight are the eighth placed Cheetahs, whom they beat 5-1 during their first meeting in May at the mighty Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium. But DPMM will not find the going easy against the resurgent Cheetahs, who have shown vast improvement since that thrashing and are currently on a nine-match unbeaten run which began earlier this June.

Great Eastern-YEO's S.League leaders DPMM FC kept up their good form on Saturday with a 5-1 win over Hougang United at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

DPMM marksman Shahrazen Said broke the deadlock in the 38th minute before Azwan Saleh ensured the hosts would go in at the break two goals up when he netted on the stroke of halftime.

Azwan grabbed his second third nine minutes into the second period and was soon followed by Shahrazen 11 minutes later, although the Cheetahs managed to pull one back in the 74th minute through Mamadou Diallo.

However, DPMM grabbed a fifth four minutes from time when Hougang captain Lau Meng Meng found the back of his own net, capping off a miserable day for the visitors.

In the first away game overseas this season, the Cheetahs will be looking to bounce back in the doldrums, after four consecutive defeats this season, when they take on DPMM in the hositile home crowd in Bandar Seri Begawan.

The Cheetahs will be looking to regain their confidence in scoring goals after the last four games have seen them scoring only three goals, eventhough they have dominated in games against Albirex, SAF FC and Harimau Muda.

The Cheetahs will be missing a few faces. Azhar Sairudin and Stanislav Vidakovic is still in doubt, with the latter was sent to hospital after a collision with a Harimau Muda player. Azhar is nursing a knee injury. Captain Lau Meng Meng is suspended for this game, after picking up his fifth yellow card of this season.
