Glenn Hughes is celebrating 25 years of sobriety

Glenn Hughes was known for his massive drug addiction. It came as a surprise to a lot of people when they found out he had gotten sober. And has been sober for now, so far, 25 years.

He said "G'mornin everyone. so full of gratitude, for these past 25 years of clean & sober living. I give thx each & every morning, for another day on planet earth. sending my love to my sober brothers & sisters, and more importantly to those who are still suffering. #loveistheanswer". He posted this on his Twitter account. He even received congratulations from various people in the music industry, including Frank Bello of Anthrax.

In a 2016 Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction segment on Loudwire, Hughes talked about his years of substance abuse and the path to sobriety he currently walks. "I can't remember the 80s." He's been with various bands over the years, including Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, The Dead Daisies, California Breed and Black County Communion. You can read more about the path to sobriety he chose to walk in the excellent autobiography Glenn Hughes: The Autobiography: From Deep Purple to Black County Communion. In it he does not hold back on what it is like to be an addict. He lays it all out on what it's truly like to be addicted to drugs. It's written by him and Joel McIver.

George Russell says 1million euro fines are "ridiculous" and "obscene"

Mercedes AMG F1 driver George Russell says that €1m fines are "ridiculous" and "obscene". He fired back at the FIA for the ridiculous fines they institute for fines

In the International Sporting Code for the FIA, the governing body of Formula 1 has increased the fine issued to a Formula 1 driver from €250,000 to €1m. This update has been left untouched for the last 12 years and, according to the FIA "does not reflect the current needs of motorsport." George Russell believes otherwise. The Mercedes AMG driver feels that quadrupling the fine from its original amount to the current amount was "ridiculous", given that F1 drivers just starting out in grand prix or F1 racing earn nowhere near that kind of income. Ahead of the US Grand Prix weekend in Austin, Russell said in an interview "I think it's pretty ridiculous that a driver could be fined €1m. In my first year of Formula 1, I was on a five-figure salary and actually lost over six figures in that first year from paying for my trainer, paying for flights, paying for an assistant. And that's probably the case for 25% of the grid. We're doing what we love, so we're not complaining about that. But if you take a year one driver probably by the end of the year is losing over €100,000 because of the investments he has to make, you fine them a million. What's going to happen?" Russell continued on, adding that he says the drivers asked the FIA for more transparency on what the money from the fines will go towards

When he was asked about if he thought the issue would arise again, he said "For sure. There's no doubt about it. We just want transparency and understanding. I think already the fines are getting out of control. [Max] Verstappen being fined 50,000 for touching a car. Lewis [Hamilton] being fined 50,000 [for crossing a live track in Qatar]. It feels like these numbers are being plucked out the air. When there's a lot of global issues going on and so much poverty around the world, how a federation can just make up these six, seven figure fines? We've requested before from the FIA ot hear where these fines are going toward, what causes they're going to. It needs to be reinvested into grassroots, but so far we've had no response on where that's going. If they truly believe a €1m fine is worthwhile and it's going to be reinvested into the sport, then maybe one of the drivers who's being paid a lot is happy to pay that fine. But it seems obscene."

Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen has included some comments on this. "If touching your rear wing is 50k, then I would like to know what one million is. Then maybe we can sponsor also the bottles of wines. I'll get ready..." Russell's Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton also added "When it comes to things like this, we really need to be thinking the message that that sends out to those who are watching. If they are going to be fining a million, let's make sure that 100% of that goes to a cause. There's a lot of money in this whole industry and there's a lot more that we need to do in terms of creating better accessibility, better diversity, more opportunities for people who wouldn't normally have a chance to get into a sport like this. That's the only way they'll get that million from me."

Richie Faulkner is feeling better after heart surgery

Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner had to undergo emergency heart surgery after an aorta in his heart blew out during the Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, KY.

In an Instagram message posted on the band's site, Faulkner said "I was able to return home from hospital 10 days after my surgery to continue recovery at home. It has now been seven weeks since the night it all happened and I'm feeling very strong and positive. My incisions have healed very well and I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel."

It all happened during Judas Priest's "Painkiller" at the Louder Than Life festival. On Sept. 26, the band were playing away, playing "Painkiller" when an aorta in Faulkner's heart ruptured and blood started filling his chest cavity. He was rushed to a nearby hospital after the show for emergency surgery, where doctors spent more than ten hours repairing the damage

Faulkner said he has "been playing guitar everyday" during his recovery and admitted he's lucky to be alive and to have survived the ordeal. "It's Thanksgiving this month, and whether you celebrate it or not, I have a lot to give thanks for this year." He's said that he's grateful that the Louder Than Life set was only an hour long and that the Heart and Lung Center was only four miles from the concert site. Prior to this nearly life-ending incident, the 41-year-old guitarist has had "no history of a bad heart, no clogged arteries, etc."

10 Things Fans Want from Iron Maiden in 2021

The people at MetalHammer.com must be MASSIVE Iron Maiden fans. They've compiled a list of things they think fans want from the veteran British metallers in the upcoming days, months or even years.

A new album

-Fans all over have been getting that itch for a new album. September this years marks six full years since Maiden released their last album, 2015's The Book of Souls. That one had almost come to a screeching halt because of vocalist Bruce Dickinson's throat cancer diagnosis. But he had already finished his singing for the album, so it wasn't too bad. Last year, in an interview, vocalist Bruce Dickinson and bassist Steve Harris confirmed the band are using this down time to work on something. "We're doing bits of writing. I'm talking to Steve, we've been working together a little in the studio. On what, I can't tell you 'cause they'd have to kill me."

A new Eddie

-With each album released and subsequent tour to follow, Eddie has gotten more fearsome as time went on. The last tour saw Eddie as a Mayan warrior stalking the stage. Anything is possible when it comes to Eddie the 'Ead, as he's often called in his home of the East End by die hard Maiden fans

More of the Legacy of the Beast

-Everyone is hoping to see more out of this tour. Considering they are already planning to continue, fans should be happy to know that this heavy metal machine is going to roll right on. Although, it's been said one thing is missing...

...And that is a UK gig

-When the COVID-19 situation started getting worse, all festivals were pulled, including Maiden's gig at the famed Download Festival. As it stands, Maiden won't be rocking Europe this year. Fingers crossed that they hit Europe. That's where a lot of fans are

New books

-So far, the only man in Maiden who had released a book was vocalist Bruce Dickinson. His autobiography, What Does This Button Do? An Autobiography was released in 2017 and guitarist Adrian Smith releasing one in 2020, some fans want to know, "where's the book on Nicko? Janick? Dave? and most importantly, Steve?" I, for one, would love to read about these guys. Sure, reading a book about the history of Maiden is one thing, but to read about the lives of the men who made the band possible would be another thing, a thing that would be so fascinating to read.

A new Trooper ale

-Fans are flocking to the new Day of the Dead ale like it's a million dollars at stake. The people at MetalHammer.com are hoping the people at Robinsons Brewery, the people responsible for the production of the ale, are getting hints from the fans

New levels in The Legacy of the Beast game

-This, for those unaware, is a mobile phone game. Fans are playing this more than anything else. They're hoping for new levels and with new levels, hopefully new Eddies and new characters based on songs and Maiden history

New Funko Pop! Vinyls

-Already four have been released. One for Iron Maiden, one for Killers, one for The Number of the Beast, one for Piece of Mind (which I own, still have to get the others). Fans are clamoring for any kind of Funko Pop! Vinyls. Fans would probably go over the top if the company making the Funkos would release Pop! figures of the actual band themselves. I, for one, would love it. My sister, would jokingly say they are gosh darn adorable while probably buying one of her favorite, Dave Murray

New Bruce shows

-When Bruce released his book in 2017, he followed it with spoken-word shows. With the amount of material he talked about in there, fans are curious about the stuff he didn't cover there

An honorary Killers celebration

-Last year, the debut album, Iron Maiden, turned 40. Now it's Killers' turn to hit the big 4-0. Maiden managed to inspire dozens of bands, but Killers would turn them into the most innovative metal band in history. They would turn into metal royalty by that point. Fans are hoping the band do something to celebrate one of their more successful albums

Replay by Amy Daws

This is a recent book written by American author Amy Daws, known for her London Lovers series and her other successful series The Harris Brothers. This book focuses on the Bethnal Green FC team lawyer and all around janitor of all things media blitzed and legal, Santino Rossi

Santino Rossi is a British-Italian lawyer for Bethnal Green FC. Managed by former legendary Manchester United player Vaughn Harris, this whole team is his life. Santino Rossi is known by the Bethnal Green team as the "two month chump", because of his inability to maintain a relationship for longer than two months. There is one woman he wants, but they parted on bad terms. They both have demons from their past the other doesn't know about.

Tilly Logan is the younger sister of Bethnal Green player Maclay "Mac" Logan, a hot-tempered, red-headed Scottish spitfire who requested a short term transfer to the Glasgow Rangers when his father was sick as a dying request. Now that he's back in London on Bethnal Green and expecting his first child with his wife Freya, Tilly offered to move in to help with the baby. She didn't think she would run into Santino as often as she does.

Once they start to get to know one another, everything comes out, including the dark secrets they kept from each other. Santino tells her that he is the product of a rape his mother experienced in Italy before moving to the UK. Her family moved to the UK to try and get her a fresh start. His mother told him and pushed him to be successful so he could be better than the man who helped conceive him. Tilly tells him that when she first moved to London because of her brother, she and her work friends had gone out drinking and one friend had given her a pill that knocked her out. When she came to, she was in a strange place with a strange man on top of her, raping her. She then became pregnant with this stranger's baby. She also battled with alcoholism as well. As they begin getting to know each other again, they start falling back in love and before long, they're engaged. Of course, Santino tells his story to Mac and he now understands his sister's boyfriend and also respects him more

Elsewhere, Vaughn Harris hands Santino a contract for a new player Bethnal Green is trying to obtain, an American player named Zander Williams. This player had asked to negotiate housing into his contract. While working late one night working on the contract, Santino receives a call from Jane Williams, Zander's mother. She gives him the truth about Zander-he is, in fact, Vaughn Harris' own son. She had a drunken fling with him after his first wife, Vilma died. She became pregnant and moved to the US, not telling Vaughn about the baby. She tells Santino that they had both gotten drunk one night and it, more or less, just happened. They had a fling. Ever since he received the news, Santino debates on whether or not to tell Vaughn that the player he is so bent on trying to obtain is his own son. Not believing one word, he goes to the apartment (flat in British English) that Zander is living at to have him sign the contract and become an official green and white-wearing Bethnal Green player. The mention of who this player's father is still runs in his head as he waits for the door to open. When it does, he sees the young man and reality hits Santino like a ton of bricks-this young man looks extremely and dangerously close to former Manchester United player Gareth Harris and also...Vaughn Harris.
