Challenge Chicks...Gift Wrap Challenge

Time for another fun challenge with my friends, "The Challenge Chicks."  This month it is my turn to pick a theme, and I thought it would be fun to make a tag that coordinates with any of the gift wrap you have on hand.  You could get a head start for the holidays, or use wrapping for any other occasion that you have on hand!

I used the Woodlands Wreath stamps and dies from WPlus9 Studio to coordinate with some folk art tissue paper I got last year from JoAnn's.  I placed the tag on dimensionals on a ribbon slider die cut from PTI's Tinsel & Tags kit.  Love all the festive red!

Now it's your turn to play along with the Chicks!  Find some wrapping, for any occasion, and make a coordinating tag.  Post it to Splitcoaststampers using the keyword:  CHXNOV15 or link your blog post to our Challenge Chicks Facebook page!

Check out the fabulous tags by visiting the other ladies' blogs listed in my Challenge Chicks sidebar!

Challenge Chicks: 3, 2, 1

This month, Kelli Jo was in charge, and she issued a "3, 2, 1" Challenge...to make a card with 3 layers, 2 embellishments, and 1 sentiment...NO other stamped images!  Sooo hard for me!  Getting the lovely "Christmas Cheer" sentiments from Papertrey Ink helped, though...

So my card has 3 layers...the woodgrain paper/acrylic sheet window, the die cut sentiment, and then the sweater pattern.  I inked the sentiment in 2 shades of grey and black at the bottom.  My 2 embellishments are the sequins for the shaker and the big red bow cut with a die from L'il Inkers Design...and of course my 1 sentiment!  I roughed the edges of my woodgrain paper with an edge distressing tool.

Sidebar:  I did mount the whole shaker onto a card base, so I may have cheated on the layers!...and she didn't mean ONE sequin, right?!! :)

We would love for you to play along, too!  Upload your creations to Splitcoaststampers using the keyword CHXOCT15, or you could post a photo from your blog to our "Challenge Chicks" Facebook page!  To visit the other chicks, just see their links to the right ---->!

September with the Challenge Chicks

This month with the Challenge Chicks, Jeanne Streiff's challenge is called "Splat"... to use watercolor or ink splats on on our design!

I did a little of both using the "Ink Splats" stamp set from WPlus9 and Artful Flowers from Simon Says Stamps.

I first made the flowers by using the 2-step stamps and spritzing them with water after they were inked.  I also did the "rocking and rolling" technique at the end, adding a darker color on the edge of the solid stamp, spritzing it while on the block again, the stamping over the top of my first flower image.

I put coordinating lighter colored splats on the linen cardstock from PTI and then arranged the flowers that matched over the top of each coordinating "splat."

Now it's your turn to play along!  Can't wait to see what you make featuring "Splats"!

Circle of Friendship

A long overdue Challenge Chicks post!  This month, Diane chose our theme, and she picked "Circle of Friendship"...to make a card with circles, about friends, or both.  I chose both :)!

The circular flowers are from Wplus9 Studio's "Doodle Buds" set, and the background confetti dots are from Papertrey Ink's "Good Times" set.

The sentiment is from Verve's "Text Objects" set.  I like how it had both "sunny" and "around" in it, perfect for the theme!  I added some Wink of Stella glitter pen and Diamond Stickles on some of the dots, as well as some mini orange flower sequins from the PTI Shakers and Sprinkles kit.

Silver & Gold

I'm joining the Challenge Chicks once again, and I chose this month's theme..."Silver and Gold."  I thought it would be perfect for the upcoming holidays, both Thanksgiving AND Christmas!

Christmas cards are my favorite to make and I find that I am making them earlier and earlier each year.  I skipped Halloween cards and went right to them in October!

I chose to make a silver and gold version of this Christmas tree card using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and Delicata inks...

The tree images are from A Muse Studio's "Peaceful Forest" set.  They are stamped in Versamark and embossed in white.  I traced around each with a Copic marker...W1 for the gold card and C1 for the silver.

Before stamping the tree, I spritzed cardstock with Guilded Gold Glimmer Mist

The tag is cut with the largest tag in the Waltzingmouse Stamps Stitched Tag die set.  I love these bells from Michaels...a frosted glitter one and dull silver.  Some silver sparkle twine, too!

This one was spritzed with Glacier Glimmer Mist both before and after I stamped the tree.  The sentiments are from Waltzingmouse Stamps "Nutcracker Sweet" set.

Be sure to check out the other girls' "Silver and Gold" creations!

Challenge Chicks

The first Sunday of the month is Challenge Chicks day and I am late...but I didn't MISS it! Good thing Kelli challenged us all to making a "Missing You" card this month :)

Gosh, one is the loneliest number!  This card is kinda making me sad, lol!   Not sure if I created this with the idea that the little bird is missing another red bird, or if he's feeling left out the since the butterflies are leaving him behind!  Luckily a little gingham paper brings a bit of cheer!

The die cuts are from Memory Box, and the stamped leaves and sentiment are from Waltzingmouse Stamps Teeny Trees stamp set.  To play along with us, upload your creation to Splitcoaststampers using the keyword CHXAPR14 or link your blog to our Facebook page HERE.

Off to see what the other chicks made...

Spring with the Challenge Chicks

Jeanne Streiff is our hostess this month, and she challenged us to make a card with some spring flowers!  Some cottontails may have invaded my garden, though...:)

I embossed the bunnies from Papertrey Ink's "Take Three: Spring" set in white on kraft paper.  Then I made my little spring flower swags with Wplus9's "Fresh Cut Floral" stamps and dies.  Always so much fun to play with those itty bitty flowers!  The background is made with My Mind's Eye Sweet Caroline papers and the new PTI Horizonal Stripes impression plate.

Your turn to play along! Post your creation at Splitcoaststampers using the keyword CHXMAR14 or link your blog post to our Facebook page HERE.

Challenge Chicks-My Furry Valentine

It's time for another edition of Challenge Chicks!  This month Diane is our hostess, and she is calling her challenge "My Furry Valentine"...make a Valentine's Day card featuring any animal.

Yes, elephants are not furry...but are they hairy?  Lol!  She did say any animal!  I had two sweet elephant punches left over from Sharron's 12 Kits of Occasions this month so I had to make one more card.

The paper in the background from Teresa Collins "You Are My Happy" collection coordinates perfectly.  Added a tag stamped with PTI's coordinating Tiny Tags stamp set.

We would love for you play along!  Upload your creation to Splitcoaststampers with the keyword CHXFEB14 or link a blog post to our Facebook page HERE!

I know the other ladies will have adorable animal creations, can't wait to see...

Challenge Chicks' Chalet

It's time for another edition of Challenge Chicks!  This month Anna challenged us to make a winter wonderland.  I decided to go to the Swiss Alps where the winter scenes are aplenty, and used Waltzingmouse Stamps Alpine Christmas set!

I stamped the mountain range on die cut pieces and layered two over each other.   The sentiment from the set is heat embossed. The snowy background is from a favorite background set that I have had for years, "Filagree Snowflake Background" by Peddler's Pack Stampworks.

The chalet was colored with Copic markers and then I added Stampendous Crystal Snow glitter at the top.  The mountain range and snowflake were glittered up with Stardust Stickles.

Now it's your turn to play along.  You can upload your creation to Splitcoastampers and use the keyword CHXJAN14 or you could link your blog post to our Facebook page HERE.  Can't wait to see what you make!

Like much of the country, we've had our share of winter inspiration.  These pictures are from our front yard this past Thursday!

Here's to staying warm this week!
Off you go to see what the other chicks have made!

Challenge Chicks with Lydia

It's the first Sunday of the month which is my standing date with the Challenge Chicks, and Lydia is our hostess today!  I was all ready to say Happy December...but a warning.  Lydia does not appear to be a big fan of the snow and cold ;)!  She has issued us a challenge to shed winter layers already!

*We are to make a one-layer card AND the theme/images must have nothing to do with winter!*
No Christmas, no snowflakes, no hot cocoa.  No winter!

I barely remembered that part of the challenge when I sat down.  I was still perseverating on the "one-layer" part, UGH!  How am I supposed to cover up all my mistakes?!!! Somehow, shedding layers made me think of feathers I guess, LOL!  I used my Fine Feathers and Funky Feathers stamp sets from Waltzingmouse Stamps and made a get well card.

(Now when I look at it, it IS rather snowflake-like, eek!)

Even though I stuck to the rules with the one layer of paper, there ended up being lots of layers of ink and embossing.   I am pretty sure that I am allergic to one layer cards...they induce hives!  The feathers are stamped in VersaMark and heat embossed with white powder.  I stamped the hearts in all different shades of blue, teal, and aqua ink and added some Stardust Stickles.

Before adding the hearts, though, I sprayed the paper with 3 kinds of glimmer mists in light silvery blue (okay, it's called glacier, but I said that in a very small voice), aqua, and teal, keeping the darker colors at the top and going lighter toward the bottom.  If I had to do it again, I may have stamped a few less feathers to keep that lighter, floating, drifting down kind of  feel :)

Your turn to play along!  Upload your creations to Splitcoaststampers using the keyword CHXDEC13 or post a card or projects on your blog and upload a link to our Facebook page HERE!

A Sketch for Challenge Chicks

It's time for some fun with The Challenge Chicks, and I get to be the hostess this month!  I came up with the idea to make a thank you card but with a twist...to use this sketch that I created.  I must say that I drew it up on a piece of paper, and Diane created this lovely graphic to match it!

Here is my card...

I heat embossed a combination of sentiments, the thank you from Wplus9's Fresh Cut Florals and the phrase underneath from Waltzingmouse Stamps Say it Loud.

I added some detailing with a white pencil, then stamped over the entire piece with Hero Art's awesome new Chalk Background...love it!  The little flowers to match the October Afternoon "Working Girl" patterned papers are also from WPlus9's Fresh Cut Florals.

Now it's your turn to play along with the sketch!  Upload your creation to Splitcoaststampers using the keyword "CHXNOV13" or link your blog post to our Facebook page HERE.

Now off to see what the other chicks did with the sketch!

A Challenge Chicks Halloween

Time for this month's edition of Challenge Chicks!   Kelli Jo issued a really fun challenge...to make a Halloween card with NO orange, purple, or green!

I settled on a dark and light grey, white, and yellow combination. The images are from Waltzingmouse Stamps  Cicely at Halloween with 2 sentiments from Gracie at Halloween.

I colored her with Copic markers and then glittered up her hat and scarf with a Sakura Stardust pen.

I also used Amy O'Neill's awesome sketch featured at Freshly Made Sketches this week!

Shiny Happy Die Cuts

Oh August, I am sad to see you go!  But it's the first Sunday of September which means it's Challenge Chicks Day!  This month our hostess is Jeanne and she challenged us to use DIE CUTS!

I made a birthday card using both positive and negative die cut pieces with Papertrey Ink products, and this sketch from the Freshly Made Sketches blog by Linda Callahan...

I used a negative piece cut with the Hexagon Cover Plate as a mask and then sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Yellow Daisy and Cherub Pink, and Heidi Swapp's Color Shine in Teal.  Then to match the sketch, I used the Happy Hexagon stamp set and stamped in 2 rows over the misted hexagons.

Then I used some "positive" die cuts :)- the Headline Alphabet and hearts cut from felt using the Love Lives Here dies.  I think this card will be perfect for when my girls are invited to friends' birthday parties...not too many layers and very shimmery and sparkly!

Don't forget to upload your project at Splitcoaststampers using the keyword "CHXSEP13" or link your blog post to our Facebook page HERE.

Now off to see what the other Chicks have come up with using their dies!

Supplies:
Stamps:  Happy Hexagons, Think Big Favorites #1, Papertrey Ink
Paper:  PTI Lavender Moon and White
Ink:  A Muse Studio Mermaid and Berry, Fresh Ink in Celery and Basil
Dies:  PTI Hexagon Cover Plate, Love Lives Here, Headline Alphabet
Other:  Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists in Yellow Daisy and Pink Cherub, Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Teal, rhinestone, Stardust Stickles, Autumn Rose felt from PTI

Challenge Chicks for August

It's time for another round of Challenge Chicks!  Sadly I missed Christmas in July last month, but I am back to celebrate FLOWERS this month with Diane!

I chose a Camellia by Waltzingmouse Stamps...

I colored it with Copic makers and paired it with some "5th & Frolic" paper from American Crafts.

I also cut 3 separate Camellias and layered them up with dimensionals.  I thought the paper in the background reminded me of mini ones!

I also used this week's sketch (turned on its side) from Freshly Made Sketches.  It was created by Jennifer Timko.

We would love for you to create a floral project with us this month!  Just upload your creation to Splitcoaststampers using the keyword "CHXAUG13" or post it on your blog and link it to our Facebook page HERE!
