The flock of Canada geese was fairly large and some stood along the edge of the lake,
some swam,
and the largest portion after having their treat from the little boy played or preened in a large puddle next to the lake. I enjoyed their many poses.
This one was a strange shot because the wing you see outstretched is on the goose behind the first goose giving a weird perspective.
I didn't even see this guys tongue until I got home to the computer!
They seemed to enjoy this small dirty puddle more than the beautiful blue lake!

So that's where all the Canada's go during the winter. Do you have them all year round? A nice variety of poses!
There are bunches of them scattered on any good size lake or pond in the area year round. I think that basically we are part of their winter range. I'm sure we don't have as many as Canada! They were a lot of fun to watch. More pics tomorrow. We have had a pair nest on our little pond off and on, but as soon as the babies are out swimming, they disappear...I don't know where!...another pond? Eaten by snapping turtles or something?
Wonderful pictures. Great action with the wing and then the one where you see the tongue. We have a lot of Canada Geese around here, too. They stay year 'round. Some consider them pests because they're messy, but I like having them around. For the past couple of years, I've watched a couple nesting in a certain place and each time the nest gets flooded. I was just out today and took a picture of a goose nest that was taken over after being flooded, and later was built up by beavers.
Thanks Sandpiper! It seems to me that a lot of birds have stuck their tongues out at me this year...is that a comment on my bothering them all the time:-) I'm hoping the Mallards that are visiting our pond might decide to nest instead of a pair of geese. The Geese do tend to get very messy and they like our side of the pond the best of the 5 choices...we have the dam and are next to a small woods area where they nest...and don't own a dog.
It sounds like you have a nice property. Funny comment about them sticking out their tongues at you! ;-) I know what you mean about the mess that geese make. It can be pretty awful. If they do, look at the bright side - their babies are ADORABLE!
Very true! I love baby anythings :-)
