Happy Easter

It's a wet and chilly day here in Central Texas, but Spring is in the air at Eyelet Outlet!  We have some of the prettiest Spring washi tapes and fabulous Spring themed brads you will find anywhere and today I'll be showing you just a few.

I started out with this cute "Easter" border from Cricut's "Celebrate All Year Long," image set, not really knowing what I'd use as a background paper.  I tried a number of different colors and patterns, but then I spied this gorgeous wide floral washi tape on my craft table and knew it would be perfect peeking out from behind the Easter eggs.

What's Easter without some chocolate bunnies?  Our little chocolate bunny brads are so cute alongside our Easter egg brads, don't you think?

See you next week!  Until then, keep on crafting!

Treat Me Like a Queen

The big news this week was the royal birth. Oh my, did you see Prince Harry's announcement the day Archie was born? Adorable!

So with all the royal excitement, I decided it was time to use the BRAND NEW crown brad from Eyelet Outlet on a card. In fact, these are so new that you can't even get them in the Eyelet Outlet online store yet - soon, but not yet. They ARE available in the Eyelet Outlet booth at the trade shows, though, so be sure to check and see if there's a trade show near you. The list can be found HERE.

The Wide Washi Tape on my card is also brand new. Isn't it exciting when Eyelet Outlet gets new items in stock? I know it excites me.

Of course, every Queen needs some bling, so in addition to the Crown and the sparkly Washi Tape, I also used a bit of the Fancy Long Bling from Eyelet Outlet on my card. Glitzy!

Thanks for stopping by!

Now I just need to get one of those signs that reads:
The Queen is not accepting an audience today.

Fruit Rhymes With "CUTE"

A coincidence? Maybe not. Certainly our Eyelet Outlet Apple, Cherry and Banana Brads would seem to imply a connection. So I (Lauren) have made a trio of tags to celebrate!

Here's a shocking true confession: when I made these tags, I didn't realize that the Banana Brads had recently gone out of stock in the online store, so I apologize about that! On the other hand, it's great incentive to visit the Eyelet Outlet Booth at a CKC or Expo near your town. Since EO does 25-30 tradeshows per year, the odds are you'll find at least one within driving distance! The booth is a great place to find brand new items that aren't officially out yet, as well as older things with just a few left. There are also cards and samples galore, more bling that you can possibly imagine and tons of fab washi tape! Check our sidebar for this year's schedule.

Meanwhile, I can tell you that the Coloring Book Wide Flower Tape that's on all the cards is still very much available, as are many of the Skinny Tape accents and the adorable Cherry Brads!

And the Apple Brads are brand new from the Spring 2018 release. Don't you love that each packet has both pristine apples and super-cool cores?

I hope you'll be inspired to "strive for five" servings of Fruit Brads per crafty day! ♥

loves fruit almost as much as she loves candy.

Giftwrapping, In the Bag!

Here's a shocking true confession: I (Lauren) hate buying gift bags! They're so expensive, and often not very good quality. The good news is, I have Eyelet Outlet washi tape and embellies, so instead of buying pre-made gift bags, I buy inexpensive plain bags in bulk and personalize them!

This bag was made for my sister, Amie's, birthday gift. And I confess it was made a bit last minute, so I needed a few Ninja tricks to speed up the process. Trick #1: Washi tape covers a lot of ground quickly. Standard sized (5/8") tape is great, but at almost 1.25" our many beautiful EO Wide Washi Tapes are even better, and the Wide Lines Washi I've paired my butterlies with is 1.75". The latter has so many colors and patterns, it matches nearly every tape in my collection! Trick #2: Use a shoebox to hold the gift bag open. This will make it much easier to apply the tape, since the empty bag will want to keep folding up on you. You really needn't cover the entire bag; a few strips around the top of the bag add loads of interest. You don't have to take the tape 360 degrees, either, but the nice thing about tape is, it's one lonnnnnnnng piece that already has adhesive! So if you decide you do want to go all the way around the bag, it's easy! However much or little tape you decide to use, you'll want to start and end in the "folds" at the side of the bag, so you never see the ends of the tape. Apply one strip at a time, and if you're not confident enough to "eyeball" a straight line, a tiny pencil mark at each edge will keep you on track!

Trick #3: An oversized monogram is a really fast way to personalize your bag. My giant letter A is almost 5 x 8" and I printed it as an outline, on plain white cardstock, using a free font called "Storybook". I applied the same tapes I used on the bag, but you could use a coordinating-- or even a contrasting-- design to get different looks. Trick #4: Since most washi tape is translucent, you don't need to pre-cut-out a monogram to use as template! In this case, I just applied the tape right over the outline, and as you can see, it was still perfectly visible for me to trim up afterward. I use an Xacto knife for interior cuts (like the triangle at the top of the A) and regular scissors for the rest.

Trick #5: A coordinating mat makes your monogram stand out even more. Having said that, the "ghost effect" of the un-matted dimensional letter gives a totally different, but equally cool look. In this case, though, I did use a mat, which I chose to go with the Solid Color Paper Flowers I added for a little more color and interest. Since they come in nine colors, it's not hard to find a shade that will match perfectly! Trick #6: Green flowers are an awesome addition to your collection, because you can snip the petals apart and make them into leaves, as well, like I've done here.

Again, this is hard to beat for speed and ease: I attached the flowers to the monogram with some beautiful oversized Pearl Brads and affixed the monogram to the bag with a few strips of foam tape, for extra dimension. Finally, I applied a strip of extra tape to a scrap of cardstock and fussycut a few extra butterflies to perch on the flowers.

With hundreds of varieties of washi tape in the Eyelet Outlet Store, I'm confident you can find LOTS of designs you'll love... and lots of ways to use them! ♥

really, reallllllly loves
wrapping presents!

Congrats w/Washi

Hi Friends! kel here today to share a super easy and super fun graduation card!

I started with some wide star washi for this card, laying it out diagonally over a white piece of cardstock. Then I used some Glitter Black Washi Tape and Glitter Copper Washi Tape to make matching bands to cover the rest of the white cardstock piece! I actually used 2 strips of black, and then 2 strips of copper... using just 1 strip was too thin in my opinion.

All this card needed after that was this nice "congrats" sentiment and then it was done! The shine is just gorgeous and I absolutely love how it came out!! And the awesome thing is that you can't really even see the seams between washi strips... it just looks like that's the pattern on the paper itself!!

Thanks for stopping by today and see you again soon!!

lovies, =o) kel

Gorgeous Women!

TGIF crafty friends!  Susie here with another ATC*.  The focal point on this one is a 40mm wide washi tape with a wonderful collage of images: florals, birds, script and gorgeous women of days gone by!  Time to play...

The sentiments I used for this card are from the Believe Script set from Pink & Main.  I stamped with black ink onto off white cardstock.

Here is a tip for getting your washi tape on straight:  tape the cardstock to a cutting mat and then use the lines on the mat as a guide to apply the washi tape.

Women Washi Tape has a very soft, feminine, vintage feel. I inked the edges of the ATC with Nutmeg brown ink to create an aged appearance then added Pearl Bling Strips and Skinny Washi Tape in a classic black and white stripe pattern.

Turning this ATC into a card is super simple.  I chose coordinating paper in soft pink and added that on top of a black cardstock base.  I also matted the ATC with black cardstock then slipped in a small doily that I had "aged" with more Nutmeg brown ink.

A peek inside shows you that just a couple strips of Skinny Washi Tape adds a lot of class.

And yes, I did stamp off a couple extra ATCs that I would love to share.  If you are interested in one leave a comment for me over on my Instagram page.

Eyelet Outlet has a huge selection of  wide washi tape with a wide variety of subject matter.  Check it out HERE and have fun designing your own cards!

Not To Be All Braggy...

...but I (Lauren) really love my card this week, so I'm going to just get right to showing it!

As a bonus, this baby features something from all four of my favorite Eyelet Outlet embellishment categories! From the Brads department we have the beautiful Dragonflies (which are currently a 99c special!); representing Washi Tape we have three strips of gorgeous wide Clock Face Tape; it's a two-fer on Bling with Bumpy Hearts and a Clear Swirl; and finally, from the Paper Flowers section I've got a stack of Solid Color Flowers in white.

I didn't intentionally set out to use a little bit of everything. In fact I confess that, unusually for me, I actually didn't have much of a plan at all, so that's probably why I got out a bunch of different products and just sat and played with them for a while. Who knew that would turn out to be a greatcardmaking strategy, eh?

Why not grab a few of *YOUR* favorite Eyelet Outlet goodies and see what happens when you start combining them without a plan? ♥

I Get Butterflies!

TGIF crafty friends!  Susie here with another ATC*!

So do you have someone special in your life? Somebody who makes your heart race and gives you butterflies in your stomach?   I hope so!  Whether it is a new love interest or a spouse of many years I have the card for you.  Time to play...

I actually started with the sentiment stamp on this card (Stampendous) and then found the perfect Prima stamp by Julie Nutting to coordinate.  A quick search for all things Butterfly over at Eyelet Outlet yielded an astounding number of brads and washi tapes from which to choose! (seriously you should check it out!)

I went with the Mini Butterfly Brads (soo cute!) and the Butterfly Washi Tape - Wide.

I stamped the sentiment and image on watercolor paper using Archival Ink and then added color with my watercolor paints. I added a single perfect pink butterfly brad and then trimmed a larger pink butterfly out of the washi tape.

Next I matted it on black cardstock and attached it to a simple card base with a couple of  Zots...

...and we have a finished card!

And yes I did stamp off a few extra ATCs again this week.  If you are interested in receiving one, just leave me a comment over on my Instagram page.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find some time to play today!  Susie

Gift Wrapping Is My Bag, Baby!

I (Lauren) may have mentioned that before. But I never get tired of making extra-fancy presents for my friends and family. Especially (...but not limited to...) the kiddos. It's amazing how quick and easy it is to make a plain boring giftbag from the big box store into something infinitely more colorful and fun... with Eyelet Outlet Washi Tape!

You've seen me make washi tape into patterned paper before, just by applying tape in neat strips on plain white cardstock. And that's what I did this time to make the star bag, but instead of choosing one pattern of tape, I made a washi rainbow! I used a homemade star template from my computer to trace the star and cut it out with scissors. Then I matted the whole thing onto a scrap of glossy black cardstock and cut it out again. For the heart bag I used a store-bought stencil for the shape, and this time I applied the tape in a sort of plaid pattern, alternating between placing the tapes horizontally and vertically, so it would be more interesting. I matted that one on a coordinating shade of purple. I machine-stitched around the edges of both shapes to add a little extra texture.

I affixed both shapes to their bags using a few pieces of foam tape. But first I wanted to add a little more color to the bags. The nice thing about washi tape is that it comes in lonnnnnnnnnnng rolls... so you never have to worry about how wide or tall your project is. I marked an even point on the right and left sides of the front and back of each bag. Then I applied my tapes carefully, one at a time, in long strips that went alllllllllllllllll the way around the bag! By starting inside the fold at the side of each bag (and working neatly) I was able to hide the place where each strip of tape overlaps at the end of its run. I love how it looks seamless, and I can tell you that when non-papercrafters see something like this, they have NO IDEA how you've done it! (So when you make your own version, if you want to tell them it was *MAGIC* your secret will be safe with me!) ;)

On the star bag, I used: Red Dot TapeBlue Stars and a couple of Skinny Print Tapes for variety; the star itself has: Heart WashiOrange StarsCrayon TapeBlue StarsPurple CheckedSkinny Yellow DotsSkinny Green Stripes and Confetti Tape.

On the heart I added a stack of Paper Flowers with an Enamel Dot center, and these tapes: Pink CheckedPurple ZigzagPink DotsSkinny Pink Dots and Skinny Pink Checks plus Heart Tape; with Wide Star Washi and Skinny Glitter Tape on the bag. But really... both of these designs would work with literally ANY combination you'd like to use! You could work in a specific color group--either the recipient's favorite combination, or to commemorate a school or team. Or use the entire rainbow--either randomly or in the ROYGBIV spectrum. You could even combine tapes thematically, for an occasion like a birthday or holiday. The only limit to the variation is your own imagination!

I'll Never Desert You!

Hello one and all!  Susie hosting the blog again and TGIF!

So last week I shared a grid style layout that featured that amazing wide Cactus Washi Tape.  I obviously could not put it away because today I am sharing a card that started with that same tape!

Today is also the first day of my Greeting Card ATC Series! What is an ATC?  An Artist Trading Card is a 2.5" x 3.5" piece of original art.  They can be made in any medium and are intended to be traded with other artists, however,  I am going to be using them as the basis for some cards!

I started by stamping an image and a sentiment onto watercolor paper...

...and then added washi tape and colored the image.

Something you will learn about me is that I *love* using arrows as a design element! While I am looking forward to using the Vacation Arrow Sign Brads on another project, today I just needed a plain black arrow. No problem!  I  sanded the surface a bit, pulled out my acrylic paint and *gasp*  painted over the design!

I do want to point you in the right direction (giggle - see what I did there?) and make sure that you are aware of another option.  Eyelet Outlet has these cool enamel arrows that would have been perfect for this project and I probably would have used 2 or 3 - but I didn't have them at hand and I like being able to stretch my supplies. I will add a link to these in the supply list at the bottom of the post!

Arrow Enamel - Mickey Colors

Anyway, I added a small piece from the Pearl Bling Strip and decided my ATC was done!

I created a clean & simple background...

...and voila!

Hmm - looks like I have some extra ATCs that I have already stamped.  If you leave a comment for me over on my blog, My Time to Play, or my Facebook or Instagram pages, I will draw names and send them out next week.  I would love to see what you create!  (maybe I will have a contest...)

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find some time to play today!  Susie
