Coney Island Pillow

Hello, Friends!
If you're like me, you don't have a lot of free time
for sewing, especially in the summertime.
Pillows are a great project,
because they're both practical and pretty...
a smart way to use precious time!

I made this particular pillow with a mini charm pack
of Coney Island, by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda.

The colors and prints capture summer's
carefree moments perfectly.

When it came time to choose the backing,
this apple green solid caught my eye.

This little pillow measures about 14" x 14".
It's not too big...just nice for cushioning a wicker chair.

I love the way this pudgy pillow fills out the form.
It's pleasingly plump!!!

Don't you love mini charms?
I love searching for matching prints
in various colorways, when I use a charm pack
or a mini charm pack.

If you have a favorite way to spend your
summer sewing hours,
feel free to comment!

Happy 4th of July!

Here in the USA, we're having a celebration...
happy 4th of July!

I made a sweet new Stars and Stripes table runnner.
at A Bright Corner.

Photo and reference to free pattern used with permission from A Bright Corner blog

Here's how mine turned out.

I used a couple of different fabric collections
from my stash...the stars and the stripes came
from a fabric line called Simply Sweet from Henry Glass.
For the star background, the border and binding,
I used Smooth Sailing from Connecting Threads.
They gave my runner a nautical flair.

The border wasn't included in the tutorial,
but I liked the way it added a few more inches
of width and length to the runner.

I used wavy quilting lines, randomly spaced.
Don't you think wavy lines are perfect for flag designs?

I think the striped binding is my favorite detail.

This runner is even reversible!

The beachy print is fun for the back deck at our house,
near the swimming pool.

If you're looking for a fun and easy project,
with just the right mix of applique and patchwork,

Enjoy your summer, friends!

Hands and Pot Holders

Hello, friends!
How's your summer?

Mine has been rather too eventful for my taste.
We've had some scary health issues in my family,
and yesterday I joined in the drama by breaking my left hand.

{Sad face}

Still, I'm counting my blessings:

1. There was no blood involved.

2. It isn't my dominant hand.

3. We had just returned from a fun vacation...
which is how I tripped over the suitcase and broke my hand,
while carrying a large basket of...

4. CLEAN laundry.

{Happy face}

Now let's get back to some sewing news...
prior to the Laundry Accident I'd been busy making pot holders!
expertly written by Amy at nana Company blog.

I pulled some lime green and cheery red prints from my stash
and whipped up this set in no time.

Cherries make such a sweet kitchen theme, don't they?
I had a piece of fabric called Oh-Cherry-Oh from
Me and My Sister for Moda.
Delicious!!!

The red and white binding fabric was from the same line.
I used it for the adorable ruffle, too.

The green plaid is from Sugar Hill by Tanya Whelan.
I often use a Frixion pen to mark my quilting lines,
but this diagonal plaid made it really easy to create a grid design.

Tags are fun to create,
especially if you have some fun Japanese ribbon for detail.

Here's the other tag.

The finished pot holders make a great gift
that is functional and fresh.

I love the way every set made from this tutorial looks so different.
Here's another pair I made for a new bride
with a country kitchen.

The fabrics are from Dandelion Girl, by Fig Tree Quilts.
I'm still enjoying the fat quarter bundle I bought to make this quilt.

I made the pair of pot holders similar, but different.
One features gingham, and the other has a pretty tonal leaf print.

The colors are soft and understated,
so I left out the tag detail.

The squishy quilting will make baking even more fun.

That ruffle detail adds romance and style.

Soon I'll be sharing more pot holders and other projects...
I can blog with one hand tied behind my back!

Be careful out there, everyone!

Cathedral Window Pincushions - Spring 2016

Hello, Friends!
I'm getting ready for a fun spring craft fair,
so I've been making some new Cathedral Window pincushions.

{Have you seen glimpses of them on Instagram? My Instagram name is @eamylove.}

I've made lots of these sweet little pinnies.

I kind of have it down to a science now.

I love to prepare the backgrounds for several pinnies, all at once.
There is a lot of pressing in the first steps,
and I can do the prep work even if I have no time for sewing.
Later comes the fun part...placing the fabrics.

If I have more than one background prepared,
I don't have to fret over selecting the PERFECT combination
of colors and prints.

Instead of stressing, I can actually experiment and play
with various combinations of prints and colors.

Here is a sweet set I made from
Happy Go Lucky prints by Bonnie and Camille for Moda.

This dynamic duo was made with Strawberry Fields Revisited
by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda.

I have a "thing" lately for that brown, yellow and green palette.
The final touch is the covered button.
They are really fun to create,
especially with a lovely tiny print like this one.

These pincushions look so adorable stacked up together.
They're just a wee bit pudgy...I call them pleasingly plump!

I also made this darling little white pincushion...
in my humble opinion, it's absolutely exquisite!

I will be making one to keep for myself.
The fabrics are Flower Sugar from Lucien.

You can never have too many, or make too many of these pincushions.
Also...you can never take too many photos of them, right?

I hope you don't mind this photo-heavy pincushion post!
