OF cops, family squabble over returning guns
Oak Forest, IL police were asked to store firearms for a family while a member was deemed mentally unfit. They accepted. But when the family wanted them back, the OFPD refused, stating that the family had to get a court order (which they can't afford) because the department is afraid of being sued in the future.
Hopefully the ISRA will help this family out w/ legal fees. I've contacted them to try and get some more information.

Clinton Supporters for McCain
They agree:
Angry Clinton Supporters Start Rallying for McCain Online
"We're going to run campaign ads to defeat Obama," says Ed Hale, a 63-year-old rancher and a Clinton supporter from Wellington, Texas. "We have doctors, lawyers, CPAs, the blue bloods, and then we have rednecks like me. It's a very diversified organization."
Does it make a difference which Democrat gets in office?

'Che' brand irks Guevara's children
HAVANA - Two of Ernesto "Che" Guevara's children said Thursday they were tired of seeing their father's image used to sell everything from T-shirts to vodka, calling the growth of the revolutionary as a global super-brand "embarrassing."
"We don't want money, we demand respect," wrote Guevara, who is a trained physician like her father.
Respect your enemies their virtues. I respect him as an efficient guerrilla fighter. Efficient including being a cold blooded killer who would not hesitate to remove anyone or thing that impeded his goals. A man who advocated violent bloodletting across the globe.

Why are anti-gun activists so violent?
Sadly, only this is quite clear about the Second Amendment: Whoever drafted it shoulda been shot.

You're getting warmer...
It's going to be a fun weekend in Gun Free Chicago.
Nine people were shot -- including a woman who was seriously injured and a 16-year-old boy -- in seven separate eruptions of violence late Wednesday and early Thursday on the South and West Sides.
Three men were shot Thursday evening in the Washington Park neighborhood on Chicago's South Side, police said.
Good thing the police are on the case(s):
Chicago Police Officer Joseph A. Grillo, 45, was arrested Wednesday afternoon as he got off a plane at O'Hare International Airport, FBI Special Agent-in-Charge Robert Grant announced Thursday. He was also charged with mail fraud.

Brady's once again show why Tiahrt is in place
and why "Trace Data" shouldn't be released.
New Jersey’s strong gun laws restrict the flow of guns to criminals, while just a short bridge ride away, Pennsylvania’s weaker laws allow gun dealers to readily supply the illegal market, according to data recently released by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) and analyzed by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
While ignoring to mention page two of every single report:
(1)Firearm traces are designed to assist law enforcement authorities in conducting investigations by tracking the sale and possession of specific firearms . Law enforcement agencies may request firearms traces for any reason, and those reasons are not necessarily reported to the Federal Government. Not all firearms used in crime are traced and not all firearms traced are used in crime.
(2)Firearms selected for tracing are not chosen for purposes of determining which types, makes or models of firearms are used for illicit purposes. The firearms selected to not constitute a random sample and should not be considered representative of the larger universe of all firearms used by criminals, or any subset of that universe. Firearms are normally traced to the first retail seller, and sources reported for firearms traced do not necessarily represent the sources or methods by which firearms in general are acquired for use in crime.
Not that we expect honesty or any form of integrity from them anymore.

Shutting down neighborhoods, searching all vehicles, and arbitrarily deciding whether you have a "legitimate reason" to be there is now:
"A positive pattern of [police] checking things"
The sheep bleated:
Some residents expressed support for the plan yesterday, saying they are willing to submit to the checks if it makes the neighborhood safer.
Obviously not a student of history:
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security.

News you won't here from the Brady Bunch
By 41 percent to 17 percent, a two to one plurality believes that the Second Amendment supports an individuals right to bear arms. Interestingly, almost three in ten (29%) feel the Amendment supports both and 5 percent say neither;
A relative majority of U.S. adults  49 percent favor stricter gun control with 20 percent wanting less strict gun control and 21 percent wanting no change. Since 2004 these sentiments have changed slightly with the number favoring stricter gun control going down from 52 percent. Since 1998, however, this has dropped significantly as ten years ago, 69 percent favored stricter gun control;
By 54 percent to 18 percent a majority favors stricter laws relating to the control of hand guns and another 18 percent want no change. These opinions have not changed much since 2004 when a similar 57 percent to 18 percent also favored stricter control of handguns. Again, a decade makes a larger difference as in 1998, a 76 percent to 19 percent majority favored stricter laws relating to the control of hand guns.

A nation of laws not (for your average) men
Well, no surprise, Alderman Mell got his what amounts to a private exemption bill passed in Chicago. Now he can re-register his firearms after failing to do so last year. He claims he was "inundated by calls". If this is true, I wonder how many of those people realize that the bill only covers one year of missing registration?
Here's what I expect to see happen. Mell and a few dozen (at most) other people will be allowed to re-register. Everyone else who does it will be outside of the bounds of the bill , charged by the city, and have their firearms confiscated if they are still in possession of them (ie don't have vacation houses out of the city where they can store them). Daley will then go on TV crowing about having gotten all those dangerous guns owned by criminals off the streets and how Chicago gun control works.
Armed and Safe has more including the ordinance.

Brick and Mortar Support.
The conversation with Paul Helinski, founder of GunsAmerica, at the Blogger Bash got me thinking of what I could do to support the FFL's local to me besides just buying supplies or the occasional firearm. So here's what I'm going to do:
I'm adding a new feature to Days of Our Trailers. Starting June 5th, 2008, I'm going to be advertising firearms available through my local firearm dealerships. Some will be added each day for the next week or so and will be attached to a new sidebar list available on the site. After that, as they are sold, new firearms will be added to keep the list as current as possible.
Except for some store credit for sales made through referrals, I am not being paid for this. I am doing this to not only help out a friend (I bought my first gun through Arcola Guns and about half my others) but to help support the local firearm industry and economy.
Note that I am not selling these firearms. I do not own or have in my possession any of the ones that are being listed.* All sales go through the advertised FFL at his shop or transferred to one local to the buyer. Federal, state, and local laws apply.
If any other Central IL FFL's are interested in this, feel free to contact me.
*If I sell any of my personal collection, it will be noted and same conditions apply.

'Vigilante' gets revenge on metal shop thieves
VIENNA, Maine - The owner of a machine shop where thieves stole $3,000 worth of scrap steel, iron and aluminum wasn't going to let it happen again. After Saturday night's theft, Joseph Lord loaded his shotgun and laid low, expecting the thieves to return. They came back on Tuesday, in broad daylight.
When Lord saw their 2008 F-250 pickup truck, he shot out its tires and windshield and blasted its radiator, Kennebec County Sheriff Randall Liberty said.
The startled thieves took off on foot, but investigators quickly tracked down the truck's operator, who will be charged with theft, Liberty said. Charges are pending against an accomplice, the sheriff said.
Good. Unfortunately:
Liberty said he discourages the use of guns to protect property.
"I can understand the frustration that Mr. Lord must have been experiencing," Liberty said. But, he added, "We don't want to see anyone get hurt over property."
So when they show up in the middle of the day, knowing people would be there, the Sheriff guarantees they won't hurt anybody? Whose life is he willing to stake on it?

The Public Defenders office in Dade County FL are contemplating changing the Miranda warning to :
You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, that's tough, because the public defender's office is short staffed right now.
Due to some budget cuts and reduced staffing, they've decided they're just not going to handle all the cases any more.
Not that it really matters as prosecutors don't bother prosecuting most cases anyway.

Snuffy Pfleger snuffed from the pulpit..
Pfleger suspended from St. Sabina duties
The firebrand pastor of St. Sabina parish was effectively removed from his duties there Tuesday, according to a statement released by the Archdiocese of Chicago.
In the statement, Cardinal Francis George says he asked the Rev. Michael Pfleger, 59, to "take leave for a couple of weeks from his pastoral duties." The statement said Pfleger "does not believe this to be the right step at this time." "While respecting his disagreement, I have nevertheless asked him to use this opportunity to reflect on his recent statements and actions in the light of the Church's regulations for all Catholic priests," George said.
The modern equivalent of sending him to a monastery w/ a vow of silence.
I'll quote the GunGuys:
"Father Pfleger, keep up the great work."

Oppose Censorship?
Then you're asking to be bombed and killed. Really. It's your own fault. So says Munawar Hassan , secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami:
"This is the reaction," Hassan said. "The government of Denmark is not doing anything positive, despite the fact that millions of people came out on the streets, peacefully demonstrating. Nobody is paying any heed. What is the common man to do? He has no option."
So because a government won't censor, imprison, or otherwise punish one of their citizens who say something you don't like, you have "no option" other than to blow things up and kill people?
Odd. I can think of several options. Product boycotts, travel restrictions to your country on the person who offended you, or even just ignoring him. But no. So much better to kill people that had nothing to do w/ it except work at the embassy of the country he came from. That makes much more sense.

2 down...
Another "GodnotGuns" posting has been flushed down the memory hole. Screen captures are wonderful things.
This is how the Brady Campaign responds to people questioning the idolatry of gun control.
Update: Now "Meat" is back under todays date along w/ a new one placed before it. My bet is they re-added it because it was still available at HuffPo so they couldn't completely deny it like they did w/ them deleting "The people" from a 2A quote. That, or else they're using Acme disappearing/reappearing ink. I'll be honestly surprised if they re-add "Idolatry". But then Brady logic never did make much sense.
Update2: I'm surprised. It's back up minus one offensive comment. They're back to "moderating" though.

Snuffy breaks the 9th Commandment
"I apologize for anyone who was offended and thought it to be mockery. that was neither my intent not was it my heart," Pfleger said.
Really Snuff? You didn't mean to "mock" or "offend" when you said:
"I really don't believe it was put on. I always thought she felt 'This is mine. I'm Bill's wife. I'm white. And this is mine. I just got to get up and step into the plate,'" he said. "And then out of nowhere came, 'Hey, I'm Barack Obama.' And she said, 'Oh damn, where did you come from? I'm white. I'm entitled. There's a black man stealing my show.'"
Pfleger then proceeded to pretend to cry in a dramatization that included a handkerchief.
"She wasn't the only one crying. There was a whole lot of white people crying," he said.
You didn't intend to imply that she and many of her supporters are racists? Is that just the same kind of "dramatics" as calling for shop owners and legislators to be dragged out and "snuffed"? Are Klan members just being "dramatic" when they call for lynchings or refer to "darkies"? Or is that different?
What is it w/ anti-gun religious leaders bearing false witness?
