We were kindly invited on a private tour by guide Mike Cash (who is also the founder and president of a wonderful worldwide organization called "Operation Family Fund").
The petroglyphs were created by the Coso People who are Paleo-Indian and then later Native Americans. Little Petroglyph Canyon, where we toured, is home to over 20,000 drawings. Some drawings are 10,000 to 14,000 years old. The location is a National Historic Landmark and located an hour inside of Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. We toured the area from about 10-2, eating a packed lunch there. On our drive up, we saw about 9 wild mustangs--a rarity.
