The Wall and Planning!

Here are a couple pics of the wall I decorated and will utilize for school! I think it turned out really well! (yes...there have been some drawing on the walls...UGH...that was previously when this was a playroom...I was not thrilled about it). The lined poster under the calendar is a wipe off poster! That will be great for me showing the kids how to properly write their letters and also for them to maybe practice on a bit.

And....below you can see what I was doing last night.... :). I was planning our 1st week of school which will start on Sept. 2. I know it looks like SUCH a mess but there is actually a method to my madness...LOL! I will probably do this every week....to prepare for the next week. Since I am new at this...I may end up changing things or doing this differently in the upcoming weeks. I am not sure...but notice, I did plan in pencil! That was a helpful tip from my friend, Lea, and that is great...cuz I have already done a ton of erasing!!! LOL

Thank you all for your encouragement and support of my homeschooling! I really appreciate it! I am sooo excited to start...but of course, worried that I won't do this well enough. I feel like I may be trying to cram too much in one day...or maybe not enough? I figured once we actually start...I will get a feel for what needs to happen! Plus...the first 2 days of school, M has a dr's appt on the first day and a dentist appt (an hour away) on the second day...so I am trying to figure out our stuff around that. I'm always up for a challenge....ROFL!!!

So anyhoo....I wanted to share all this with you girls and again...thank you for your support and help with things! It means so much! I hope you all have a wonderful Friday and weekend!!! xoxo

  4. I'd love to go to school in your school room. When I was a kid, I don't think there was such a thing as homeschooling, but I know I would have loved it!

Thanks so much for your prayers and encouragement! You don't know how much I appreciate it!!!!

  6. I have always found when planning for a day to write a very broad topic at the top and all the goals of the lesson (we had SOLs in VA to help guide us). Let the children question and have conversations about the topic to guide the direction and way the lesson will be taught to them. Lessons and information are a lot more meaningful and will be retained longer if they create the ways to learn and make associations. Katy- I am no expert teacher by any means but I taught first grade if you have any questions along the way I would love to help! =)

  8. It looks great Katy!!! I so know what your feeling but trust me you are gonna do great!!! One thing I did with the kids was had a big cork board and we decorated it with things we were learning about or the different seasons!! Like when we were doing a unit on history we put up things like the decleration of independece and pictures of different presidents, then in the fall we put up leaves and words that were associated with fall. You get the idea!!LOL....hope you have a great weekend!!~Wendy

  9. Katy, I have been home schooling for 15 years...3 more to go and I can retire...LOL just let me say that the only regret that I have is that we didn't spend more time just hanging out together and less cramming the books. My dd has carried a 4.0 in college and she is a junior this year...time goes too fast! Wish they were small again. Dianntha

  10. I just want to recommend a book to you by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay. It's called For The Children's Sake. It is wonderful! My little ones are only 2 and 6 mos., and no where near ready for "school". However, this book has helped me to better understand what education truly is (or should be anyway) concerning the whole of life. I suspect our children are even now growing in their "education". Anyway, I just wanted to give you this info. because I think that you would really like this book!
