So...after I go weigh in this morning...I am going to go pick up my aunt and then we are off to the store! YIPPEE!!! I must admit...I am sooo excited to be homeschooling..but also so nervous to start. All you homeschoolers...do you have any tips, advice or suggestions for me? I know that each family is different in their methods and such...but I love to hear all different views and opinions on it! And how do you all document your time? Like, I have a school planner I will be using to plan each days work etc....but then after the day is over do you write down that you worked for say, "5 hours" total? Or do you say "1 hour....math; 30 min. on reading" etc??
I hope you all have a wonderful day today!!! Remember to be quick to smile...and SLOW to anger! xoxoxo

It thrills me to see you so excited about homeschooling! I have thought about homeschooling, but hubby isn't very excited about it. I have a few more years, so we'll see!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder to be quick to smile and slow to anger. I woke up grumpy this morning, so I needed to hear that!
Oh, I got a reply from the chick about the magazines. She said that it takes approx 12 weeks for the first issue and feels confident that it is not a scam. ~Wendi
We are planning to start homeschooling this Fall as well. I've been talking to lots of other Homeschool moms and the thing I hear consistently is to be relaxed and make it fun. And, to read, read, read, read! At least for my girls ages.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me like you will know what is best for your children - God gave them to YOU and your husband, so He will equip you to know how to best teach and train them.

Katy~ here in PA we don't need to document hours until high school, so you don't need to worry about that. You just need to keep track of what you do each day. I make my own planning pages and then we just put them in the girls portfolios at the end of the school year (to show that we did our 180 days).
ReplyDeleteHere in Ga all we have to do is keep up with our days so it totals 180 days. Then at end of year you write a little letter to self mostly saying what was done all year(as if you were sending them to another teacher). You dont have to send this to the board just put it in the file with that yrs books and ect. Hope you have a great day! Blessings, Karen
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for you, Katy!!
ReplyDeleteI know you have to be a little nervous and anxious, but I just know you're going to do just great.
I can't wait to hear about the "first day of school"!
Katy, I wished we lived closer and I would share all my bulletin board stuff I used when I taught school. It would be nice to have them go to a home where they could be used and loved. My kids go to public school, so I don't use them much, and I don't teach school anymore. However, the girls have used some of the things occassionaly to play school. Hope your preparation and shopping went well. Julie
ReplyDeleteYou are going to have so much fun today buying for this school year! I like going to a place that sells fun things for the classroom, infact I try to stay out of there when I have nothing better to do!! LOL.
ReplyDeleteI go back to work in 2 weeks, I actually cant wait to see all the kids, you get kinda attached to them and miss them over summer and winter breaks!
Good luck today with you WI, I bet you will do great! Email me if you would like!
Stephanie
Katy, My little one will be 5 soon, so it is to late for him to start the school year. Would you mind telling where you got all your homeschool stuff?
ReplyDeletethanks
Hi Katy, when we homeschooled, I had three different grades to teach. We all started in the morning together with our Bible study and a few songs and then prayer. With the older children, I would give their lesson on History or Science first so that they would be reading while I helped the younger one to understand his work. Then I would go back and forth on who ever needed me at the time. I made lesson plans and followed them and every thing went smoothly. If my time was needed longer on a certain child, I would give the other children something in the lessons I know they could handle by themselves until I could finish. You will find your on way and it will all work out. The most important thing is to enjoy it and to make it fun and not stressed. We did this for 8 years and my children learned well. We were very happy. Good luck to you, my prayers are with you! Blessings, Kathleen
