Pope Benedict has announced that his faithful can once again pay the Catholic Church to ease their way through Purgatory and into the Gates of Heaven.

Never mind that Martin Luther fired up the Reformation because of them: Plenary Indulgences are back.

You would be astonished to learn that the Italian Government gives the Vatican more than 6 billion euros per year (equivalent to approx 7.4 billion USD).

Italian victims of paedophile priests demanded to meet Pope Benedict XVI in an open letter published yesterday, accusing papal officials of blocking them.

“We have gone through all the official channels possible in order to meet you, but have been given nothing but evasive replies,” the letter from various associations of child abuse victims said.

“We are forced, alas, to admit the extent to which the victims of paedophile criminals are treated with disdain, as if they have the plague.”

The letter noted that the Pope had met people abused by priests when young in Australia, Britain, Malta, the United States and most recently in his native Germany, but not in Italy.

The abuse of Irish children by members of the Catholic clergy, revealed by four state-sponsored reports, included acts that amounted to torture, Amnesty International said Monday.


No clear lines of responsibility make true accountability impossible.

The law must protect and apply to all members of society equally.

Recognition of children's human rights must be strengthened.


Public attitudes matter. Individual attitudes matter.

The State must operate on behalf of the people, not on behalf of interest groups.

International Criminal Court hears formal complaint on Catholic priest sexual abuse - Pope to prison?

"You are responsible for the rape of thousands of little boys by your Catholic priests worldwide, so you go to our jail!"

The International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague on Tuesday received a formal complaint on sexual abuse by Catholic priests, in a request that seeks the prosecution of Vatican officials for "rape, sexual violence and torture."

Filed by the U.S.-based Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) in conjunction with the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) the complaint is not likely to go far, as the Vatican is a sovereign state and not a signatory to the court.

Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann are the best examples of Right Wing Christian fanatics in the good ole USA! Of course, Pat Robertson and many others also come to mind.

That the horrible terrorist attacks in Oslo on Friday that left some 90 persons or more dead– a bombing of the prime minister’s office and shootings at a Labor Party youth camp– were allegedly committed by a blonde, far right wing Norwegian fundamentalist Christian rather than by a radical Muslim group is being treated as a matter of surprise in some quarters. But if those journalists and analysts had been paying attention, they would not be surprised at all.

And in fact, kudos to Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store (a Labor Party member), who refused to speculate about who was behind the attacks before some evidence was gathered: “We’ve seen in Europe in recent years that politicians have been jumping to conclusions about suspects before investigations have been conducted, and we will not commit that error.” Give that man a medal!

A federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that calling for someone to kill the President of the United States cannot be classified as a threat because standing law does not prohibit "predictions or exhortations" to violence.

Irish prime minister Enda Kenny has launched a blistering attack on the Vatican, accusing it of "dysfunction, disconnection and elitism" in its failure to tackle clerical child sex abuse.

His hard-hitting comments came in a parliamentary debate on a report last week which accused the Roman Catholic Church of failings in its handling of abuse allegations against 19 clerics in the diocese of Cloyne, southern Ireland.

The question of whether chimpanzees and other primates should be used for biomedical research is an issue that has recently been reinvigorated thanks to 186 chimps at the Alamogordo Primate Facility in New Mexico who are waiting for their verdict of either life in a grassy sanctuary or a life of torture in the name of medical research.

For years, these chimps were used for biomedical research, primarily for hepatitis and HIV. Lennie, once a space chimp, has been documented as suffering atrocities, including being infected with HIV and hepatitis as well as enduring four spinal taps, a bone-marrow biopsy and repeated blood draws, to name a few. All of these very stressful experiments, no doubt, contributed to his death, apparently from heart disease, in 2002.

The Vatican Advised Irish Bishops Not To Report Boy-Raping Priest To The Police

THE Irish government has summoned the Vatican's ambassador for a rare face-to-face confrontation, as anger over Rome's advice to bishops not to report child-raping priests to police reignited the country's child abuse scandal.

The Catholic "seal of the confessional" is also under threat in Ireland, with priests who refuse to disclose details of sex-abuse crimes revealed in the confessional or elsewhere, facing prison sentences of up to five years. It is the first time this has happened anywhere.
