Racist Bank of America fined $335 million for discrimination against African-Americans

The case is the latest for Bank of America relating to the sub-prime mortgage crash Continue reading the main story.

Bank of America's Countrywide Financial business has agreed to pay a record fine of $335m (£214m, 257m euros) to settle discrimination charges.

The US justice department said around 200,000 qualified African-American and Hispanic borrowers were charged with higher rates "solely because of their race or national origin".

Chicago CBS affiliate TV station edits black boy to make him seem violent to promote racial hatred? (VIDEO)

Chicago CBS affiliate WBBM is under fire for editing a 4-year old African American boy’s remarks to make him seem prone to gang violence. The young boys comments were played during a story about the drive-by shooting of two teenagers in a Chicago neighborhood.

In the edited video, the young boy says that he is “scared of nothing” and confidently states that when he is older he is “going to have me a gun.”

After playing the video, one news anchor comments, “that is scary indeed,” and another anchor adds, “hearing that little boy there, wow!”

In the unedited video, the boy explains that he is going to have a gun because he is going to be a police officer.

Arkansas High School Appoints Co-Valedictorian Because Top Student Was African American

~

A high school student in Arkansas was blocked from receiving sole valedictorian honors this summer, despite earning the highest G.P.A. in her class and receiving only a single B in her four years at McGehee Secondary School.

Kymberly Wimberly’s offense? She’s black.

School administrators worried that Wimberly’s accomplishment would result in a “big mess” at the majority-white school, so Principal Darrell Thompson told the student’s mother “that he decided to name a white student as co-valedictorian,” even though the white student had a lower G.P.A.

The matter is currently pending in federal court.

More than five years after Katrina, New Orleans is struggling to deal with about 43,000 blighted residential properties — in various states of neglect and collapse. The city has a larger percentage of blighted properties than any other U.S. city, about a quarter of its housing stock.

And in these wastelands, an estimated 3,000 homeless find refuge every night. They are wretched people suffering from mental illness, disability or substance abuse, or simply down-on-their-luck working poor. They can be found sleeping in schools, rundown shotgun-style houses, warehouses, sprawling factories and even funeral homes and hospitals.

Mississippi group wants license plate to honor KKK leader

African-American leaders have reacted with shock at a plan to feature an early Ku Klux Klan leader on Mississippi license plates.

A 2014 plate would feature Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest, who became an important leader of the Klan after the war.

Forrest was most known for directing a massacre of black Union soldiers who had already laid down their arms at Fort Pillow in April 1864.
