A quick study in Geometry... Celine's Trapezoid Mules

More often than not, my love for fashion extends beyond the fact that it is simply clothing, shoes or accessories...On occasion I view of them as art...Whether it is a beautiful embroidery or embellished piece, a beautiful textile, or exquisite tailoring, fashion can be art...

Case in point: these Céline Trapezoid Mules, I could just stare at its lines and get lost in its geometry, isn't it a work of art?

Also love the simplicity of this square bracelet by Italian jewellery designer Caterina Zangrando, it can also double as a desk accessory, don't you think?

Also wearing Lemaire's latest range for Uniqlo's UniqloU range (which I absolutely LOVE! Might deserve its own blogpost, I think)

Top: Uniqlo, Pants: Uniqlo, Shoes: Celine (still available in a few sizes at Yoox Asia Pacific, Yoox UK/US currently 25% off! Run, don't walk!), Bracelet: Caterina Zangrando

Are you following me on Instagram? I post there daily if you want to follow me there.

Design and win 52 pairs of shoes with Shoes of Prey!

When Shoes of Prey offered me the chance to design my own pair of shoes, I couldn't resist saying 'yes'. 1001 ideas flooded, and I was excited with all the different shoe styles and material options on offer.  Shoes of Prey have so many different styles, and on top of that there are extras you can add, like straps, lace overlay, bows, or piping trims, to name a few.  First I thought of designing my long-sought-after pair of patent black oxford shoes, then thought perhaps instead a nice bootie...but then I had a light bulb moment.

For months I have been on the lookout for the perfect bridesmaid shoe for my sister's wedding later this year.  Our bridesmaid dress itself is quite a statement, so even though I had fanciful ideas, I ended up keeping it simple, although I couldn't resist adding a cheeky bow in red leather at the back; both my sister and I have a thing for bows, so it was impossible not to add one!  My sister (fellow bridesmaid, not the bride), had the opportunity to go into the Sydney store with the bridesmaid in tow, so we were select the best colour to match the dress.  With 5 stores in the USA and one in Sydney, Shoes of Prey also have ready made shoes available for immediate purchase (as well as several styles online, if you prefer leaving the designing of the shoe to them).

To top it all off, Shoes Of Prey gives you the option to add your own inscription on the insole of the shoe! So it could be your name, nickname, or even a quote...After discussing it with my fellow bridesmaids, we decided on a Dr Seuss quote: "Oh, the places you'll go".

It was a very easy process choosing the style and materials for each section of the shoe, the only hard part is being spoilt for choice.  Now that my shoes have arrived I can't wait to design another pair.

So, whether you would like to design a pair of shoes for a special occasion, or just one for everyday wear, Shoes Of Prey are currently running a competition to win 52 pairs of shoes of your own design!  That's one pair for each of week of the year (yes please!).  You can enter their competition here.  Wishing you all the best of luck!

What would be your ultimate shoe?

Mixing it up just for fun
I love this patterned leather, and love me a nice pair of D'Orsay pumps
Lace oxfords?!? Whatcha think
Shoes of Prey also collaborated with Australian Designer Carla Zampatti, and I toyed with the idea of designing this shoe...but practicality dictated I choose a lower heel option.  The brilliant idea behind designing the bridesmaid shoes myself means that I can select three different heel heights for us bridesmaids (the other two bridesmaids have already requested lower heels, especially since one will be heavily pregnant by then). How brilliant is that?
Oh, the places you'll go...
I love red bows and I cannot  lie...

Gingham and fries before guys

I'm afraid I stole the title for my post from a comment left (not for me) under this photo I posted on Instagram last night:

It was too funny not to share.

Remember when I posted about this gingham ensemble from Zara a little while back? Well, I couldn't resist it nor these 'pony hair' flats in navy and blush...just like I can't resist McDonald's fries.

MBFWA Day 1 Street Style - What I/we wore

Apologies for going MIA once again, it has been a hectic few week weeks, leading up to MBFWA, the week at the Australian Fashion Week itself, and then coming back to the little ones being on school holidays.

It was an action-packed but lovely week spent in Sydney for MBFWA with my sister Elisa (who also blogs at Jadorais), spent to-ing and fro-ing to shows, squeezing a bite to eat whenever we could, and laughing a lot at trying to snap pictures (I am hands down the most camera awkward/shy person ever, truly).

I will save 'What we saw' for a further post.  I am afraid I didn't get the chance/time to snap 'Street Style' shots like I did to previous fashion weeks, but took a few for day 1, so will share them with you here.

What I wore:

Dress: COS (a few seasons old), Cuffs and Collar: Etsy (cuffs from Etsy US and collar from Etsy UK), Bag: Chanel quilted Boy (some available at Real Real and Vestiaire Collective), Sunglasses: Dolce & Gabbana (available from Net a Porter and Bergdorf Goodman), Shoes: Aska Collection Harem loafers (I found them TTS - in case I get asked).
Cuffs and Collar: Etsy (cuffs from Etsy US and collar from Etsy UK), Bag: Chanel quilted Boy (some available at Real Real and Vestiaire Collective), Sunglasses: Ray Ban Polarized folding Wayfarer, Shoes: Aska Collection Harem loafer, Headband: Assad Mounser
PS. Little Picture from when I visited the Chanel Couture Ateliers in Paris
Please excuse my goldfish expression.  I stumbled on this picture of myself by accident, and had no idea I was being photographed, haha.  Photo by Jamie Cho (Sydney-based photographer). Love my Sarah Frances Kuhn camera strap which has served me well quite a few years now.
Sunglasses: Dolce & Gabbana (available from Net a Porter and Bergdorf Goodman)
 Which way again?
The best thing about this year's MBFWA was attending it with my sister Elisa (of Jadorais)
Day 1 we managed to squeeze a little lunch between shows, yay.

What they wore:

My sister Elisa, blogger for Jadorais:
Blouse: Daniel Avakian (whose show we watched later that day), Clutch: West Elm (lent this to her, and loved the pop of colour it added to the outfit), Boots: Alexander McQueen (love! A few seasons old I'm afraid), Leather shorts: Blessed are the Meek, Leather Coat: Alk'aemi (I have loved this Perth-based label for over a decade!)

Elisa and I are fans of Kerrie Hess's beautiful work, so I just had to snap this picture, she was a vision in this beautiful outfit.
Absolutely adored Carmen Hamilton's (of The Chronicles of Her) pyjama stripes by Bassike, and am trying very hard to resist this Balenciaga tote (and the smaller crossbody version too - somebody please stop me! Or not)

Met this beauty, fellow Ministry of Talent (and former Adelaidean) blogger of 'Friend in Fashion' Jasmin Howell in a gorgeous Macgraw ensemble I just loved (we saw their show that day, and I'm already coveting way too many pieces).
The one and only Christine Centenera, by the time I decided to go for it and try for a picture I was a little late, but ah well...

All pictures taken by me (except for the ones I'm in, of course, those were taken by my sister Elisa)

GM2NY - Get me to New York (pretty please with sugar on top?) - and how to tie a scarf

I have been meaning to post about GM2NY for months now, since mid last year even, since I got my first scarf from this Sydney-based label, but just as well, as I have since then been lucky enough to add their gorgeous shoes and wallets to my 'collection'.  Even though I wore my cashmere-blend scarf to death, with its gorgeous Mancoon print on it, I never felt my picture of it did it justice.  The large size is no longer available, but the square pocket is.  I thought I'd post a link to it to demonstrate how one would never realize or see the 'big picture' on these gorgeous scarves were they not stretched out.  When I first saw the beautiful prints I wondered how one could wear what could essentially be a beautiful wall hanging; but when worn, the beautiful shades and colours on the print produce a beautiful and abstract effect instead of a picture (as seen in my photo of the scarf below, and in the many pictures on the website).

Created in 2012 by the lovely Rhamya Freitas, 'Get me to New York' combines fashion with travel and style.  With beautiful silk and cashmere scarves, gorgeous leather travel wallets (with the most beautiful silk lining - see this pic), stunning silk shoes and more (even cushions!), Rhamya presents a cohesive collection of liquid soft silks with vibrant prints of city skylines and travel inspired landscapes.  Each designs is born from a photo, so that each creation is a snapshot of a city travelled, which in turn becomes a wearable piece of art.  Having said that, I find her shoes deserved to be framed and hung on a wall, just look at them!

There are several items currently on sale in GM2NY's store, including the lovely Albion silk scarf I also have (the silk is uber soft).  I am in love with my burnt orange leather travel wallet, can't wait to take it abroad, although I am more than happy to 'travel' with it to a cafe or restaurant...

To encourage myself to wear my silk scarves more (GM2NY and not), I have included a brilliant video I found a while ago, made by Nordstrom, on how to tie 4 scarves 16 ways.  Having used sarongs extensively, many styles I had known of previously, but there are a few I have yet to try.  The video shows one of my favourite ways of using a scarf in an unexpected way (as a kimono jacket), I also used to love tying my scarves into dresses and tops.

Do you have a favourite way to wear your scarf?

GM2NY Albion silk scarf (currently half price!)
I want to frame these silk shoes and hang it on the wall...
I wish I had captured the beautiful signature silk lining in this gorgeous travel wallet, the colour and leather is so beautiful too...
Mancoon cashmere and modal scarf, so light yet warm and so so soft and cozy...

all pics my own.

I like big bows and I cannot lie...

For someone who doesn't see herself as particularly 'girly', I never realized how much I loved bows until recently.  I thought it was more of my little sister's trademark, but remembered I have been buying bows for quite a few years now, even back to when Alice McCall did those rhinestoned silk bow belts, remember those?

I have also been slightly obsessed with bows on jewellery, such as the Balenciaga bow rings I bought in silver for myself and my sisters.

But above all, my little collection of bows on shoes has grown somewhat in the last year or so, starting with the Isabel Marant Poppy, then the Aminah Jillil bow flats (that I blogged about previously - I loved my red pair so much I bought the cobalt blue pair as well), and most recently the Isabel Marant Pealman (which are lower than the Poppy - bought on sale from Net-a-Porter).  I'm even considering this leopard calf hair version (on sale)  available at Forward (only thing is I can never envisage myself in leopard, but am beginning to think I am open to leopard shoes if they are the right ones).

For those who prefer their bows to be more subtle I recently came across this Lois black suede pair from Madewell (on sale), and have added it to my wishlist...just in case.

What about you, are you into bows?

Net-a-Porter US site now on sale - up to 50% off!

4

Woo hoo! I was so excited to receive this email from Net-a-Porter, announcing their US site is now on sale! I quickly snapped up the Isabel Marant Pealman bow pumps I've had on my wishlist and almost purchased somewhere else last night.  A black leather version of my beloved Poppy pumps in a lower 3" heel (just half an inch taller than my go-to Valentino Rockstuds - hope these are just as comfy). Was so worried I'd miss out on them I placed the order before checking on the rest of my wishlist.  You can click on any image or HERE to start shopping (don't forget, the sale is only on the US site, so you have to change your 'Country' setting if it isn't already set to the US).

Hm...I always thought it was my little sister who had a thing for bows, seems I do too!
