Gingham and fries before guys

I'm afraid I stole the title for my post from a comment left (not for me) under this photo I posted on Instagram last night:

It was too funny not to share.

Remember when I posted about this gingham ensemble from Zara a little while back? Well, I couldn't resist it nor these 'pony hair' flats in navy and blush...just like I can't resist McDonald's fries.

Valentino Noir Rockstud Cage flats

It has been over a year since I bought my Valentino Rockstud kitten heels (remember this post?).  Ever since then I have been patiently waiting to find them in all black patent in the caged flat version.  Saved my pennies, and at last I found them!

Words to those who are after these: they run small (I think by half a size).

I bought the kitten heels in my usual size (and did not require a minute of breaking in and were uber comfy from day 1), but the flats ran MUCH smaller!  I bought mine from Selfridges, and I immediately wrote to them asking for an exchange for half a size bigger. Turns out they don't do exchanges, and somehow within a few hours of receiving that email, the size I wanted sold out (there were 2 pairs left!).  Because it took me so long to find these, I was reluctant to send them back, and spent a few days using my 'hairdryer trick', and patiently and painstakingly stretched them half a size.  Although they're not as comfy as my mid-heels (because they are fully closed as opposed to a slingback, and somehow the kitten heels make it comfier, not sure why...), they are now as comfy as they would be if half a size larger, whew!

Shirt: Everlane Cotton Lawn shirt (available from Everlane), Jeans: Current Elliott Boyfriend in Loved (bought mine from Forward, it's now available at Nordstrom - also love the distressed version at Asos and The Dreslyn), Watch: Larsson Jennings Chain Metal in black(available here at Net-a-Porter).
Bag: Proenza Schouler PS11 (available from Net-a-Porter and Net-a-Porter US, and directly from Proenza Schouler HERE), Wallet: Nomadic, Hand Cream: Lumira Paradisium, Watch: Larsson Jennings Chain Metal in black(available here at Net-a-Porter).

You can find Valentino black caged flats at:

Farfetch (in all black patent! Or leather version here)
Bergdorf Goodman
Neiman Marcus
Nordstrom

n.b. Bought mine from Selfridges, but they've sold out completely in all sizes.

I'm not usually one for 'No pain no gain' when it comes to shoes, but "all's well that ends well".

Has anyone bought anything from the Net-a-Porter sale? I am so happy with the Isabel Marant bow pumps I bought! Will post about those soon.

Happy Monday everyone!

Net-a-Porter US site now on sale - up to 50% off!

4

Woo hoo! I was so excited to receive this email from Net-a-Porter, announcing their US site is now on sale! I quickly snapped up the Isabel Marant Pealman bow pumps I've had on my wishlist and almost purchased somewhere else last night.  A black leather version of my beloved Poppy pumps in a lower 3" heel (just half an inch taller than my go-to Valentino Rockstuds - hope these are just as comfy). Was so worried I'd miss out on them I placed the order before checking on the rest of my wishlist.  You can click on any image or HERE to start shopping (don't forget, the sale is only on the US site, so you have to change your 'Country' setting if it isn't already set to the US).

Hm...I always thought it was my little sister who had a thing for bows, seems I do too!

Recent Buy: Nike Roshe sneakers with Asos 30% off everything discount code!

Of all my sneakers (and I seem to have accumulated quite a few in the last year), my Nike Roshe Runs are by far my favourite pair, they are seriously the most comfortable shoe ever, and I walk in them everywhere (from the streets of Paris to walking my kids to preschool).  I have been wanting another pair, and when I received Asos' email this morning, I placed my order then and there from my iPhone during my little one's playgroup.

Today's outfit - Sweater: Asos, Sneakers: Nike Roshe Run (obviously in dire need of a wash!), Culottes: Country Road, Watch: Larsson Jennings (available from Larsson Jennings, Net-a-Porter and Liberty)

I was after a colour different to my black & white, and the grey pair is exactly what I've been looking for, great for Summer and versatile to wear with almost any outfit:

Use code 30FRENZY at ASOS for today only (I received the email this morning, and they say the code can be used on everything (sale or full-priced items) but only for 24 hours! Run, don't walk!). * Got another email saying they've extended the code for a further 24 hours (n.b. so until 20th November!)  You can start shopping here.

I took the opportunity to nab some items that have been on my wishlist for quite some time now, especially this silk longline bomber coat/dress and Pleat back dress on sale in both navy and orange (from their Asos white range):

Madewell - a cartful for a pennie

Oops, I drafted this post a few days ago, only to find out the discount code I wanted to share with you has expired! Boo hoo, because I was about to place a second order!  Well, this is what I managed to nab before the code expired (bar the 'Paris' tee, which was one of the many items in my 'shopping bag' for my 'Madewell Shopping Spree' take 2 - doh!).

I have never bought from Madewell before (and it's such a shame they don't ship directly to Australia), so I can't wait to see how these items look in real life.  I went a little crazy with one sweater, buying it in three colourways, but I really loved its casual elegance and simplicity:

Zara shopping spree - sale now on!

So today marks the start of the coldest month here Down Under...clearly I seem to be in denial about that fact as I have gone a mini-shopping spree at Zara, all Spring and Summer pieces! Bar the first and last piece below, all other items are/were on sale, and I have a few pieces for the little ones on their way too:

Ah, Instagram...I first saw this picture below on Zara's official Instagram page, fell in love, and quickly noted the item number and added it to my shopping cart.  One of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe is a silk chiffon hoodie jacket I've had for oh, well over 10 years.  Even though this lacks the hood, it has that same casual luxe sporty vibe I love:

Cardigan with patch pockets

I've had my eye on this jacket for a few weeks now, as it has been sitting in my 'shopping bag' for a few weeks now.  Another favourite piece of mine is a yellow D&G tweed blazer/jacket, but this sportier take on the yellow tweed is too much to resist.  Love that it looks like a Chanel boucle meet a sporty bomber, with the lovely white trims to freshen it up even more:

I plan on teaming the jacket above with this skirt below (and of course other bottoms).  I usually shy away from white, as much as I love it, because it gets dirty by me simply looking at it, but I couldn't resist this, I love that it looks feminine yet 'clean' and funky:

Flared skirts were my favourite items in my wardrobe, and this fabric reinvents it with a fresh funky minimal flair...

Adjustable pearl ring:

Ah, so I have the bracelet, I couldn't resist getting the ring too:

Have you gone crazy at Zara this season too (this is my 2nd installment of purchases from this collection, yikes)! Which pieces did you get (or want to get)?

New in: COS - Collection of Style (stripes x 3) - and discount code

After posting my picture on Instagram, I just found out COS is opening in Australia in Septemer!!! Sadly only Melbourne so far... But only recently did they open an online store in the US, so I pounced on the opportunity to actually click 'buy' on my computer.  So many times I 'window online shopped' on their European store, with hundreds, nay thousands, of dollars worth of items in my imaginary shopping cart.  Funnily, when I actually went to Europe and went into their London and Paris stores various times, I always walked out empty-handed, a little overwhelmed.  It seems I am better at shopping online than in stores! I think it's because online you can browse by category, type in the search box 'striped', see what it looks like on a mannequin, much faster than you can browse a whole store, walk in to the changerooms with an armful of clothes, and try it on...

For so long I have been a fan of their minimal style, and their many many striped tops

So this is what arrived in the mail:

L-R: Cotton/Wool striped top, Long silk blazer (the main reason why I put the order through was to get this, major love), wrap metal ring (wore this today), Textured Striped dress (pictured below as well), Striped tee, and Flared Cotton Dress (reminded me of Raf Simons work for Dior)
pic via iPhone/Instagram.

Oh, and I used the code: HELLOAMERICA to get 25% off! I think it runs until the end of June, with free shipping within the US (I had to use a mail forwarder as they don't ship internationally).

Already building my wishlist up again...

This can get dangerous!

New in: Celine knot bracelet and Stay Simple t-shirts

I'm not sure how long I've obsessed over the Celine knot bracelet, but it's been a while.  I loved the thicker bolder version (I didn't even realize I had photographed Christine Centenera wearing one outside Chanel's Couture show in Paris last year until I recently googled it, haha - remember THIS post?), but when Phoebe Philo released a thinner version for Spring, love turned into must-have.

Love receiving parcels from Departement Feminin!

 Simple is better
Jeans: Rag & Bone 'The Dre' (available here, here and here), Tee: from Stay Simple, Shoes: Chanel mesh espadrilles

My search for the perfect chambray shirt ends at Scanlan & Theodore

This week was quite a rollercoaster, with incredible heat that caused power blockouts, followed by a crazy windstorm that caused city-wide damage and further blockouts (for 13 hours in my area, but even longer 5 minutes away, where my parents were).  Also, it was Lil' Brigs #2's first two days at childcare.  With a few hours to myself (I thought it'd be more, but housework sadly does not take care of itself), I managed to squeeze in some shopping in an actual brick & mortar store! Too many tempting offerings at Scanlan & Theodore!

Isn't this painting absolutely gorgeous?!? My sister painted it and gave it to Lil' Brigs 2 for Xmas (Lil' Brigs 1 pictured here, trying to hitch a ride on the hot air balloon)
The little ones' backpacks by Skip Hop
I have been searching for a nice chambray shirt for years.  Couldn't decide between this beautifully soft and fluid (tencel) denim shirt (epaulettes are a weakness of mine), and the one below.  The one below was a definite, but I caved and bought this one too)
Love the neutral colour of this chambray, the cut (sadly one size too big, but if I tuck it in properly will still look good).  These pants were too big for me, but I was just trying them on as I was wearing a dress that day, plus I have these jeans in my size at home (and also in 4 other colours now! Yikes!)
Also couldn't resist this cotton/silk shirt dress (not a very good pic), love a good shirt dress, they're so easy to just throw on and get out the door...

My favourite pair of low boyfriend jeans, originally purchased in black, then added a navy/ink pair, then white, and then in the last few days, in the red and cobalt blue (have been after a red and cobalt pair of pants/jeans for years!)

New in: Valentino Patent Trompe L'Oeil Mary Jane Pumps

It has been years since I've bought 4" stiletto heels, as I've been opting for mostly practical flat or 2.5" heels (or thereabouts).  I recently broke my high heel 'drought' with a pair of beautiful Valentino Trompe L'Oeil Mary Jane Pumps, which arrived this morning from Departement Feminin.  As always, the customer service was a delight, complete with a beautiful scented package and handwritten note...

Cherries are my favourite fruit. YUM!

Shoes pictured with our latest issue of Peut-etre Magazine, which also featured the Valentino shoes, but in the 'chunky heel' version.

These shoes are a departure from my usual style, as I am not a 'polished' and elegant type of girl, unless it's slightly (or very) 'undone'.  So I'm picturing this mostly with my trusty drop crotch black pants from Scanlan & Theodore, and occasionally, worn with dresses when I feel like dressing up...

Happy Monday everyone!
