Be dazzled by the Disneyland Diamond Celebration Merchandise

It's a shopper's paradise at the Disneyland Resort this year, because it's Disneyland's 60th Anniversary, and the Diamond Celebration Merchandise collection has hit stores around the resort! Over the course of the celebration, Disney will release more than 500 merchandise items, including apparel, accessories, headwear, home décor, souvenirs, toys, pins, D-Tech, collectibles and more.

On our recent trip to the Disneyland Resort, the boys and I had the chance to meet with Summer from Disney's Merchandising Department, to take a look at some of the merchandise that Disney has released for the Diamond Celebration.  These items are now on sale, only at the Disneyland Resort, for a limited time.

Check out our video below!  It was so much fun going through the whole table of items!  My favorite has got to be the Dooney and Burke shopper tote.

Take a closer look at some of the items that Summer showed us in the video:

Mickey and Minnie Diamond Anniversary plush

Caramel apples, cake pops, marshmallow wands, photo album, autograph book, mug, and popcorn bucket (you can see more special popcorn buckets in my Disneyland Diamond Celebration Treats post).

The Diamond Celebration version of the classic Mickey ears.

This is the Made With Magic paintbrush that Jammy was holding. Turn it on, and the tip glows with changing colored lights.  Press the button with the magic wand icon in order to change the color of the Made With Magic Mickey Ears and Made With Magic Mickey Mitt.

That's only a small subset of the items available!

Items for the home include pillows, frames, blankets, and mugs.

Fashion items include shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, caps, hats, scarves, and jewelry.

I couldn't resist trying on the sparkly Minnie ears!

Pins, pins, pins!  You know we love trading pins!  The 60th Anniversary pins are a great commemorative item because they are so inexpensive, starting at just $9.95 for a pin, $9.95 for a lanyard, and $5.95 for a plastic pouch.  Stay tuned for a separate post featuring a closer look at the 60th Anniversary pins!

Which Diamond Celebration merchandise item would you most like to own?

Get a free Google Chromecast w/ purchase of a MotoX phone from Republic Wireless (and a giveaway for you!)

Republic Wireless

Did you know that over 60% of US households have WiFi networks installed at home?  Ours is one of those households, and we sure do love our WiFi.  All five of us use it daily, on our phones and laptops and tablets.  But it doesn't come cheap, especially on top of all the phone and data plans we have to pay.  One of Alfie's and my major pet peeves is that we have to pay for WiFi AND we have to pay for all our cell phones.  We set our phones to WiFi when we get home anyway, so we really ought to receive some kind of discount for using it!

Well, guess what?  I've recently discovered a phone service that actually does that -- well, sort of.  Republic Wireless uses Hybrid Calling technology to use WiFi networks for calls, texts and data when a WiFi network is available, and a cellular network when WiFi isn't available.  Since WiFi is cheaper than cellular, they are able to pass the savings on to their customers, and offer extremely cheap, all-inclusive plans.  All plans are no-contract plans, and you can switch from plan to plan, up to two times per month.  They offer 2 phones -- the Motorola MotoX and MotoG -- for just $299 and $149, respectively, and you don't have to lock yourself into a contract to get those prices!  Plus, for a limited time only, Republic Wireless is having a promo where you get a free Google Chromecast when you buy a MotoX! It's a great deal, but it won't last long because supplies are limited, and I'm told that over half of the Chromecasts for the promo have already been snapped up!

Republic Wireless sent me a Motorola MotoX phone to try out with their $40 plan (unlimited talk, text and 4G data on WiFi and cellular networks), and even though I've only been using it for about 2 weeks, I think it's great! The MotoX phone is wonderful, the coverage is great (it runs on WiFi and the Sprint network), and you really can't beat the plan prices. Here's a rundown of the phone plans that Republic Wireless provides, and what I think about them:

$5 WiFi only plan -- Unlimited talk, text and data over WiFi. To me, this plan doesn't really cut it as a cell phone, because you need WiFi, and you never know when you'll be in a WiFi network outside your home, so you won't be able to use this phone to call for roadside assistance, or to call for a taxi outside a bar. So it would basically be a phone you leave at home -- so it does sound crazy to pay $5 per month when you're using your own WiFi.  But if you think of it as a home phone, you'll realize how cheap it is.  We pay $20 per month for our home phone line!  Note, you can have this plan as your "base" plan, then switch to any of the other plans when you plan to travel and need cellular service.  Plans are no-contract, and you can switch plans up to twice per month!

$10 WiFi + Cell Talk &Text -- Unlimited data over WiFi only, unlimited talk & text anywhere (WiFi or cellular). This is a great first plan for middle school kids.  You want to be able to call or text them, but you don't want them on social media or the web when they're out with friends.

$25 WiFi + Cell (3G) Talk, Text & Data -- Unlimited unlimited talk, text & data anywhere (WiFi or cellular), with 3G data speeds.  This is how much we currently pay for The Pea's "budget" cell phone plan, which has unlimited talk and text... but includes a measly 100 MB of data (which she can use up in just 1 week!).

$40 WiFi + Cell (4G) Talk, Text & Data (available only on Moto X) -- This is Republic's "premium" plan, and it's still cheaper than any of the big carrier's plans! Alfie's "big carrier" plan costs $50 per month, and it includes only 250 MB of data!

I'll be posting a more detailed review of my experiences with Republic Wireless, so stay tuned... but in the meantime, enjoy this Google Chromecast giveaway courtesy of Republic Wireless!

Be impressed with photo holiday cards from SimplyToImpress

If you haven't ordered your holiday photo cards yet, TODAY IS THE DAY -- and SimplyToImpress.com is the place!  They have a great Cyber Monday deal offering 20% off plus free shipping with promo code BESTDEAL2013.  And if you have any doubt whatsoever that you're not getting the best deal, just check out how the cards I ordered from them turned out:

THEY ARE GORGEOUS!  I'm so happy with them!  The cardstock was nice and thick, and the layout and printing were exquisite.  It's no accident these cards turned out so nicely:  a few days after I placed my order, SimplyToImpress emailed me with a proof of my cards, and suggested that I change one of the photos because the resolution was too low and it might not print out as nicely as they would like.  They also offered the option to change all the photos in the layout, so I completely redid the photo layout -- and it turned out to be far nicer than my original design!  I really appreciate all the effort they went through, because I ended up with a beautiful holiday card that I'm proud to send to my friends and family.

What's more, soon after I received my cards, I received a second box of cards, exactly like the first.  I was completely puzzled because I hadn't ordered more -- until I read the note inside.  A few customers had seen white spots on their cards, and they traced it to a malfunctioning printer.  Rather than just replace the cards for those customers, SimplyToImpress decided to replace cards for all the customers whose cards had been printed in that batch!  They wanted to make absolutely sure that all their customers were satisfied.  I am sooo impressed with SimplyToImpress -- their designs, their quality, and most of all, their customer service.  I truly believe that if there's anything at all about your cards that doesn't meet your expectations, they will work round the clock to fix it!  Great job, SimplyToImpress!

Disclosure: I received complimentary cards to review.  The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Boost your WiFi with Diamond Wireless Range Extender

I received a product sample for review

After years of subpar internet speeds, we finally decided to invest in a lightning-fast internet service.  But our 30 Mbps download speed and 5 Mbps upload speed doesn't do us much good because, like Harry Potter, our cable modem and DSL modem live inside our under-the-stairs coat closet.   I suppose we really ought to intall both devices in our kitchen to get the most out of our WiFi signal..... but all those lights and wires and boxes are so UGLY, and we just remodeled our kitchen!  As a result, we have patchy signal strength in various areas around the house.  Oh, the sacrifices we make for beauty.

Fortunately there's a way to have our (high-speed) cake and eat it too.  Diamond Multimedia offered to send us a wireless range extender to help eliminate the WiFi dead spots around the house!  Here's a description of the product:

The WR300NSI--the second generation of the best-selling wireless extender from Diamond Multimedia, extends the wireless range, creates a wireless hotspot and connects to internet ready devices such as Blu Ray Players or gaming consoles. The 3-in1 device will help users eliminate wireless dead-spots anywhere they go, targeting a frustrating and common household issue. Eliminate the hassle of complicated extenders and software because there’s no need for plugging in the extender into your computer or setting it up with a cd -- after plugging it into the wall, opening the browser automatically takes you to the setup page. Don’t worry about anyone stealing your stellar connection as WR300NSI also extends the same security as a personal router.

I had no idea such a device even existed -- but it sounded like the answer to our prayers!  I've never seen Alfie so eager to do a product review :)  The WR300NSI delivered everything it said it would:

*  It was so easy to set up -- Alfie simply plugged the device into a wall outlet, connected it to his laptop, and opened a browser to connect the device to our existing WiFi network.  There was no software to install, and it's not tied to his laptop or any PC, so it doesn't matter whether his laptop is turned on or not, it will work to extend our WiFi range for any wireless device connected to our WiFi -- phones, tablets, iPads, laptops, printers, you name it!

* Once Alfie set it up, we went around the house to see whether our WiFi signal had improved... and it had! Areas of our home that had previously had a "Fair" signal now had "Good" or "Excellent" WiFi signal!  Seeing full bars on all our wireless devices, anywhere around our home, is such a joy :)

Once the Diamond  WR300NSI Wireless Range Extender is up and running, you can use it to connect non-wireless, internet-ready devices to the internet -- HDTVs, Blu-Ray players, gaming consoles, etc.. .  Just plug one end of an Ethernet cable into your device and plug the other end into the Ethernet port on the  WR300NSI.  And if you don't have a WiFi router , you can use the WR300NSI to create a WiFi network by plugging your wired router/cable modem or DSL modem into the same port on the WR300NSI.

I feel like we're finally getting the most out of our WiFi, thanks to the Diamond Wireless Range Extender.  What's more, it only costs $50 -- such a small investment to get great WiFi signal all around the home.

M-Edge introduces designer Trina Turk collection of cases {Giveaway}

I received a sample for review

I bought a brand-new laptop in January, and I couldn't be happier with it -- or more protective of it.  I'm forever dusting it off, guarding it from scratches and bumps, and the kids are NOT allowed to even breathe on it!  My laptop is a big investment, and I don't want anything to happen to it, which is why getting a good protective case was a high priority.  Fortunately gadget cases don't have to look like armored tanks to provide good protection; they can be stylish as well.

Case in point:  M-Edge's new collaboration with fashion designer http://www.trinaturk.com/.  Trina is known for bold, brightly colored prints, and that's just what she brings to M-Edge's new Trina Turk collection of cases for the iPad, Kindle, iPhone and laptops.

M-Edge sent me a Trina Turk laptop sleeve, and I adore it.  Chevron patterns are so trendy nowadays, and I'm thrilled to bits that my laptop sleeve is so fashionable and functional!

(Honestly, I'm not a big fan of huge designer labels on stuff, but I will say that the brass label plate does add to the luxury look and feel, and even though it's shiny, it's fairly discreet... see photo below).

The inside is lined with a soft microfiber that protects your gadget. It is lightly padded throughout to protect it from scratches and dents.  Obviously it won't save your laptop it it falls off a table, but if you have a nine year-old with a toy robot in his hand who's being made to zoom around and save the world and accidentally bumps into your desk... or if you have a twelve year-old with a bad habit of slamming your iPad (that she took without permission) onto a wooden coffee table... well, those scenarios, the M-Edge case could probably handle.  In fact, that last scenario is exactly the reason why my iPad has been protected by an M-Edge case ever since I got it in 2011.

I can't wait for the next time I have to pull out my new Trina Turk M-Edge case at a conference or coffee shop -- or airport security line or airport lobby :)   How fashionable am I going to look!

You can find Trina Turk for M-Edge at the M-Edge store or at the AT&T store.

Sweet Andy's Cookies giveaway

A couple of weeks ago I blogged about my latest food obsession, Sweet Andy's Cookies.  Shopping mall cookies, bakery cookies, even my homemade cookies have ceased to tempt me since I tasted Sweet Andy's moist, chewy bites of heaven.  These cookies are so good, they earned 3Po's highest level of praise:

Mom, I love these cookies so much, I'm willing to use my own allowance to buy some for myself!

Given that he only earns $3 per month, even a single bag of Sweet Andy's Cookies would be a huge investment for him.  Yes, I'm cheap, but I'm not mean.  I wasn't planning to make poor 3Po save his hard-earned money to get more Sweet Andy's Cookies, so I bought some myself.  Right now, Sweet Andy's is offering free shipping on 6 bags of cookies, so I took advantage and ordered some for the family.  6 bags might sound like a lot, but there always seems to be a teacher or teacher's aide celebrating a birthday, and a bag makes a great present!  Also, the cookies freeze really well -- we froze 2 bags, then a week after we took the cookies out of the bag, put them on a plate and warmed them in the microwave.  They were just perfect!

The Mint Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chip varieties were big hits, and Alfie adores the Oatmeal Raisin, so I ordered those, but this time I just had to try their Lemon Cookie.  If you like sugar cookies you'll love Sweet Andy's Lemon Cookie -- it has the taste (sweet but not too sweet) and texture (soft and chewy) of their Sugar Cookie, but with a hint of lemon.  I kind of wish that hint of lemon had been stronger, but it's still a great cookie, especially paired with a glass of milk :)

I've still got five varieties left that I haven't tasted:  Pumpkin, Cinnamon Sugar, Peanut Butter Chip, Chocolate with Peanut Butter, and White Chocolate Macadamia but I think I need to give my waistline some time to recover.   I can't wait to order my next box of Sweet Andy's Cookies!

Born This Way Ball: Sharing every Monsterrific Moment with Skype

Holy Mother Monster!  I attended Lady Gaga's Born This Way Ball concert last night at the HP Pavilion San Jose, and it was the best big pop concert I've attended in over a decade.  Actually, it's the *only* big pop concert (i.e. huge venue, big production numbers with dancers, costume changes, sets, etc. versus smaller venues and musicians/singers rocking out with their bands) I've attended in over a decade!

It has been over a decade since I attended a big pop concert, so the biggest change I noticed at the concert were the number of people taking photos and videos -- it seems like everyone was holding up a smartphone or digital camera!  Thank goodness for modern technology!

Lady Gaga was in San Jose for one night only and the place was packed to the rafters, so naturally those of us lucky enough to attend the concert took every opportunity to celebrate and share our experience.   Fortunately, Skype, one of the Born This Way Ball concert sponsors, has come up with tons of ways to share every moment with family and friends!  If you're planning to watch Born This Way Ball (check out tour dates and locations, through March 2013), make sure you read all about it below:

Skype mobile app
Everyone knows that Skype is great for staying in touch with friends and family.  We have family across both oceans (my family is in the Philippines and Alfie's family is in the UK), so we are big fans of Skype!  With Skype, Alfie's parents can see my kids wearing the new pajamas that they were given for Christmas, and Jammy can greet my dad Happy Birthday by playing Happy Birthday on the keyboard as they watch.

And with the Skype mobile app, you don't have to limit yourself to telling your friends how amazing Lady Gaga is -- you can show them.  You can send photos, videos and IMs (great for coordinating concert meetups with friends) from the Born This Way Ball, or any other concert, for free.  You can share pictures and photos with multiple people at the same time, so you spend more time watching the concert and less time scrolling through your contacts list.

Skype blue carpet
Skype's blue carpet area is a great place to get that all-important "I Was There" photo because it has a great backdrop (featuring the Born This Way Ball poster) and the lighting is good.  Just hand your camera to the Skype representative and strike your best pose! If you forgot your camera or if you're saving the battery to take lots of photos and videos during the show, don't worry. The Skype rep will take a photo for you, and instantly send it right to your smartphone via Skype file sharing -- so make sure you've downloaded the Skype app to your phone and created a Skype account!

Skype video booth
Who doesn't love hamming it up with friends at a photo booth?  For the Born This Way Ball, Skype has gone one step further by providing a video booth where concertgoers can leave a video message for Lady Gaga.  You can check out some of the videos fans have made on the Skypeball website for each show on the tour.

After leaving a video message, the video booth also takes 4 photos and prints them out for you as a fun souvenir.  You can even download your photos and video from the Skypeball website using the unique code printed on your keepsake photo.

Skype reporter
At every show, look for the roaming Skype reporter!  You'll get the chance to show off your monsterrific outfit for the cameras, and a chance to get upgrades to the Monster Pit, which is the area right in front of the stage.  You'll be close enough almost to touch Lady Gaga -- or at least close enough to throw a jean jacket onto the stage -- hopefully Lady Gaga will pick it up and wear it (which happened twice at our concert)!

Even if you won't get the chance to attend, you can still share in the excitement and keep up with what's going on at the concert via Skype's social media channels.  You might even be able to win a prize or two, including tickets to a future Born This Way Ball show!

Twitter
Follow @SkypeEvents on Twitter and keep an eye out for the #SkypeShare hashtag on concert nights; you'll get up-to-the-minute updates and get a chance to submit questions to Lady Gaga for her live pre-show group video call!

Tumblr
Check out photos and videos of the show on Skype's Tumblr account.

Pinterest
Enter the Skype Blue Carpet Pinterest Sweepstakes for the chance to win a Skype Prize Pack which includes a Skype Mobile Camera Lens, Skype Phone skin, Skype T-shirt and Skype phone credits and more. To enter, just repin any image from Skype's BTWBall Pinterest board.

SkypeBall Sweepstakes
Skype is giving away concert tickets to watch the Born This Way Ball, and to be Skype's official blue carpet reporter at one of the shows!  You can enter both sweepstakes at the SkypeBall website.

Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets to the Born This Way Ball and access to the Skype Suite for myself and my family, courtesy of Skype.  I was not required to write, nor was I compensated for, this post.  The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Easylunchboxes.com lives up to its name

I stopped using plastic sandwich bags to pack my kids' lunches in several years ago -- plastic takes up so many valuable resources to produce, and it clogs up landfills.  I'm never sure whether all the soap and water I use to wash reusable containers actually cancels out all the good I'm doing by avoiding disposables, but I've grown so accustomed to reusable containers that using plastic bags now seems wasteful.

I've tried quite a few types of reusable containers, but I always seem to keep switching... until I discovered Easy Lunch Boxes.  I saw some beautiful bento lunches on Pinterest, and noticed that quite a few of them were in the same kind of container: Easy Lunch Boxes!  I bought 2 sets -- each set contains 4 -- on Amazon, and I've fallen in love with them.  Here's why:

  • The bottoms nest into each other and the lids stack flat, so it's a real space saver.  This is the biggest advantage for me, and the main reason I've abandoned all my other containers.  I have 8 of these babies, and they all fit into a single drawer!  Now my 3 kids and my husband can each be using 1, and I still have 4 spare containers at home.
  • There are 3 compartments so you can pack a variety of foods without getting them all mixed up.  The biggest compartment is big enough to fit a sandwich, and the 2 smaller compartments are perfect for cut-up fruit, veggies, crackers, and all the bite-sized goodies that kids love.
  • The bottoms and lids are dishwasher and microwave safe, which is extremely convenient.  However, I find that the bottoms take up too much space in the dishwasher -- 1 bottom takes up the space of 3 or 4 dinner plates -- so I end up washing by hand.  I don't usually pack hot foods or staining liquids like ketchup or tomato sauce, so the containers are super easy to clean.

The main complaint I've read from user reviews on Amazon is that these containers are not spillproof, i.e. don't put salad dressing or soup in any of the compartments because everything will run into each other and spill out.  It doesn't bother me too much since I usually stick to dry foods or foods with minimal liquid (i.e. fruit).  I never pack soup for lunch anyway, and I use small cups with lids for ketchup, peanut butter, hummus, mayo, salad dressing or anything runny.

I've been so inspired to pack lunches with Easy Lunch Boxes that I started taking photos of our lunches and posting them up on Finding Bonggamom.  Here are some of the lunches I've packed into Easy Lunch Boxes:

Check out the What's for Lunch this Week?  series on Finding Bonggamom for more lunch ideas!

Disclosure: I did not receive a sample or monetary compensation for this post. Yes, I actually do feature products on my review blog that I've discovered (and paid for) on my own!  The views and opinions expressed here are my own.
