Be dazzled by the Disneyland Diamond Celebration Merchandise

It's a shopper's paradise at the Disneyland Resort this year, because it's Disneyland's 60th Anniversary, and the Diamond Celebration Merchandise collection has hit stores around the resort! Over the course of the celebration, Disney will release more than 500 merchandise items, including apparel, accessories, headwear, home décor, souvenirs, toys, pins, D-Tech, collectibles and more.

On our recent trip to the Disneyland Resort, the boys and I had the chance to meet with Summer from Disney's Merchandising Department, to take a look at some of the merchandise that Disney has released for the Diamond Celebration.  These items are now on sale, only at the Disneyland Resort, for a limited time.

Check out our video below!  It was so much fun going through the whole table of items!  My favorite has got to be the Dooney and Burke shopper tote.

Mickey and Minnie Diamond Anniversary plush

Caramel apples, cake pops, marshmallow wands, photo album, autograph book, mug, and popcorn bucket (you can see more special popcorn buckets in my Disneyland Diamond Celebration Treats post).

The Diamond Celebration version of the classic Mickey ears.

This is the Made With Magic paintbrush that Jammy was holding. Turn it on, and the tip glows with changing colored lights.  Press the button with the magic wand icon in order to change the color of the Made With Magic Mickey Ears and Made With Magic Mickey Mitt.

That's only a small subset of the items available!

Items for the home include pillows, frames, blankets, and mugs.

Fashion items include shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, caps, hats, scarves, and jewelry.

I couldn't resist trying on the sparkly Minnie ears!

Pins, pins, pins!  You know we love trading pins!  The 60th Anniversary pins are a great commemorative item because they are so inexpensive, starting at just $9.95 for a pin, $9.95 for a lanyard, and $5.95 for a plastic pouch.  Stay tuned for a separate post featuring a closer look at the 60th Anniversary pins!

I am simply delighted with Simply Bags! Their bags are anything but simple. They have a great choice of styles, ranging from the ubiquitous canvas tote to travel totes, lunch bags, duffel bags, beach bags, laptop bags, you name it. They come in so many cute colors and fabrics and patterns, and you can personalize any of them.

Simply Bags sent us an adorable Canvas Boat Tote in hot pink. The bag is so unique -- it has rope handles and black-and-white web striping, and I had The Pea's name embroidered on it in a black classic font.

The bag is huge, so The Pea can take it to sleepovers or to the beach or to a friend's house for a playdate (yes, she needs a bag this large for playdates because she has to take all her play paraphernalia!). It is so stylish and we've already received so many compliments on it that I kind of wish I had put my own name on it!

The Blah
The bag's handles are made of twisted rope that has been knotted at the ends so it doesn't slip out of the grommets. I love this detailing, but the ends of the rope have untwisted and frayed, and I'm a bit concerned that the rest of the rope might un-twist itself as well -- so I hot glued the ends. Alfie says you can also burn the edges so they melt into each other. Problem solved!

The Bottom Line
Simply Bags has a great line of personalized bags, with unique styles and high quality details. I've never seen such a great selection of cute personalized bags. What a wonderful gift idea!

Nuo Tech Eco-Friendly Laptop Sleeves

For most people, a laptop or netbook represents a sizeable investment, and protecting it from bumps and scratches is of the utmost importance. There are any number of laptop bags, cases and sleeves available, but a lot of them are just boring basic black. Nowadays, people want their laptops, and the cases they come in, to reflect their personalities and sense of style! I was recently invited to review a laptop sleeve from Nuo Tech, a leading supplier of fashion computer bags, luggage and laptop sleeves; here's what I thought:


The Basics

The Bongga
Nuo Tech sent me a Slim Sleeve laptop case from their Kailo Chic collection. They must be clairvoyant, because they sent me a design in my all-time favorite color scheme: pink, white and dark brown! Maybe they just took note of the colors on my blog, but whatever the case, they won big points with me for their designs. Everything from their laptops to their messenger bags to their cell phone holders screams Chic Style; you wouldn't even guess these bags serve such a mundane, utilitarian purpose because they're so fashionable!

The laptop sleeve gets even more points for being so practical -- it's nicely padded, but still slim enough for you to tuck it into a larger tote without looking like a bag lady. Also, you don't have to take the laptop out of the sleeve when you go through airport checkpoints. But I have to bestow the biggest points on this line because it's made of eco-friendly material. Stylish, practical and earth-friendly, what more do you need?

The Blah
The case they gave me fit Alfie's Dell Inspiron perfectly, but was too large for my small laptop. Given the increasing popularity of netbooks, and now the iPad, I'd love to see more designs for the smaller-sized portables!


The Bottom Line

Searching for the Perfect Pair of Glasses

I've always known I'd end up wearing glasses sooner or later. You can't argue with genetics: both my parents wear them, and my sister got her first pair of before she turned ten. In addition, I was an avid bookworm, and I would read lying down, in the car and in the dark (sounds like Green Eggs and Ham, doesn't it). My parents told me I was straining my eyes but I didn't really listen. My vision was perfect and I didn't understand what it meant to be nearsighted, except when I tried their eyeglasses on for kicks and saw everything blurred.

Still, I managed to hold out until early adulthood. I got my first pair of prescription glasses when I was in college. I didn't need them all the time, just when I was sitting at the back of the room and needed to see what the professors were writing on the chalkboard. I didn't even care what they looked like, I just got the cheapest pair that I didn't have to wait two weeks for.

My vision stayed at about a +0.5 grade in both eyes all through college, and rose only slightly, to about +1.0 or +1.5 over the next 4 or 5 years. It was only when I entered business school that I realized I could no longer see well enough to drive without my glasses. From then on I wore glasses full-time. They became a part of my face, and I really began to pay attention to what the frames looked like and how they suited me.

I've never found it easy to find a pair of glasses that flatter my face and my features. I have a square-ish, wide set face and many times the frame is too narrow for me. Most optician's offices and eyeglasses centers have a good choice, but half of them are too narrow, a quarter of them I just don't like, and the rest are too expensive. I'm so glad there are online sites that sell a wide range of prescription eyeglasses for all face shapes, personalities and prescriptions! If it's true that the eyes are the windows to the soul, then my glasses frame my soul -- they are one of the first things about me that people (pardon the pun) focus on, so it's worth investing my time and money to find a pair that suits me.
