Turquoise & Mustard

I am on a mission to use up some of my patterned paper, or I am going to make myself sell some of it off.  I can't decide what is worse, using it or getting rid of it!  Either way I won't have it anymore.  What a terrible way to think lol.

Stampin' Up Moonlight paper, Spellbinders die cuts.  I like this layout!  This week's challenge at Color Hues is to use Turquoise and Mustard:

Hi Friend!

I attended the Scrapbook and Cards Today Crop and Create event back in March.  I learned so much, and received a lot of products that were quite different from my usual style.  I loved it so much, I can't wait to register for the next one!  I used products from the weekend to create this with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge this week:

Spellbinders make the stitched die, and the sentiment is from Gina K. Daisies Forever stamp, die, and stencil set.  Black glitter paper, silver thread for the stitching, Scrmatte silver for the layers.  The purple iridescent vellum is by Canson, and has probably been in my stash for 10+ years lol.  These elements were perfect for the FMS challenge:

Hello

Freshly Made Sketches has a fun one for us this week.

I bought a ton of Project Life cards in one of the FaceBook buy/sell groups, and this sketch is a perfect layout to feature one of the cards.  I added the teal layers and the Spellbinders Hello diecut - done!  I will be using this sketch on a lot more Project life greeting cards!

JUGS Trend Week - Make a Stencil

The Just Us Girls challenge is to make a stencil from dies.  I saw a super cute card by Cathy Zielski, and had to make some heart stencils for my own version:

I cut the Spellbinder hearts from acetate, and started inking from the outside in.  Before I inked the smallest one, I made sure the the oxide inks were completely dry.  I heat embossed SU Iridescent Ice powder on the smallest heart, and added a Taylored Expressions Simple Sentiment strip for the sentiment.  Love this!!!  I have been cutting my own stencils from dies and on my Scan and Cut.  Really expands my options!

Funky Color Challenge

Just Us Girls (JUGS) has a fun color challenge this week.

I used a Spellbinders die cut 4x into DCWV adhesive paper and an InLoveArts sentiment die.  I used every scrap and am so happy with the results!!  Here is the original JUGS inspiration:

Pinterest Inspired

The Paper Girl have a Pinterest inspired challenge:

Don't you love the geometric shapes and jewel tones?!?

Here is my first attempt:
Meh.  I liked the concept, but it seems that the background, but something was missing.  And I think that the dark grey base and layer didn't work quite right.  I tried again, and was much happier:
I trimmed the Spellbinder cover up die a little smaller, and layered it onto a navy card base.  I also layered the Sizzix round sentiment onto just navy.  I used DCWV adhesive paper for all of the colors to make adding the dots cleaner.

Leaves!

I love fall.  The crisp air, the pretty colors, the smell of bonfires in the air.  Hard for me to imagine, when it's is 90+ degrees and very humid in Ohio today!!
I used a Spellbinders die in positive and negative ways.  The stamped background is Winnie & Walter and the plaid paper is Lawn Fawn.  Not sure which one I like better!!

Sharing this with:

I used the positive and negative of the leaf die.

Come play along with us at Words 2 Craft By, where our prompt comes from F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.

Twofer Challenge #1 - Feathers

There is a brand new blog - The Twofer Card Challenge by Darnell and friends.  The premise is to make two cards, for two different occasions, using the same stamps and/or dies.  Sounds like fun!
The mask was die cut with post it paper, and inked with my brand new Distress Oxides.  Spellbinders Birds on a Wire die cuts, the sentiments are from Unity.

A Very Purple Birthday

I love purple and black as a color combo, but it can be a bit dark.
I think the glitter paper brightens it up.  The tiny stars are punched from the same glitter paper, the squares are cut with layered Spellbinder dies, and the sentiment is from Unity.  I love this layout from Tuesday Morning Sketches:
I am also sharing this with Color Throwdown:

Sparkly Butterflies

I have this fabulous Paint Chip paper pad, with each page full of different shades of the same colors.  It's perfect for someone like me who has problems matching colors!!

Butterflies were die cut from an older Spellbinder set.  I added the rhinestones, a narrow ribbon, and DONE!  Sharing this with the CAS-ual Fridays CFC 174 sketch challenge:

Butterfly with Stitched Flourishes

This week's code word at Addicted to Clean and Simple is STITCHED!

I used an old Bazzill Basics piercing template, and stitched the flourishes with twisted green twine.  The butterfly die cuts are from Spellbinders and the wings are popped up, the sentiment from Above Rubies Studio.

Black, Red, & White

I saw a great card gatefold layout on Our Little Inspirations, and had to CASE it.  Here is my version:

I cut and folded the card base in a matte black and cream card base.  I layered a shiny black paper embossed with snowflakes.  Then I cut the Spellbinder cut and fold die with a paper with mirrored red and white paper.  The sentiment was heat embossed in white on the same paper as the card base.  I am linking this up with Can You Case It challenge #105 (red, black, and white or neutral).  There are a few more days left to join us in the Words 2 Craft By New Beginnings challenge!

Color Throwdown #367

This time around, the Color Throwdown inspiration photo looks like this:
http://colorthrowdown.blogspot.com/2015/11/color-throwdown-367-countdown.html

Here is my interpretation:
Unity sentiment, Spellbinder flower die, stash sticker, Fresh Vintage papers.  The gold background is very shiny, thus hard to photograph.  Come play along with us at the Words 2 Scrap By Movemeber challenge!

Put a Bird on It!

The Shopping Our Stash challenge is Put a Bird on It.  Birds are creepy.  I never got over seeing Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" as a child.  So, any bird challenge, any time of the year, sends me to Halloween.
Not sure I love my improvised wrought iron fence.  I punched the Martha Stewart picket fence three times, and put them together.  The birds are from Spellbinder Birds on a Wire die.  The background is inked with various SU! inks.  Come play along with us at Words 2 Scrap By for our September challenge - Ahoy Matey! - in honor of Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19!!!

MSC - Mod Squad Challenge - Thank You

The first Mod Squad Challenge of the year is Thank You.  And who doesn't need a bunch of Thank You cards right after the holidays?!?

I received this great Spellbinders background die for Christmas - it helps when you buy some of your own presents LOL!!!  I cut the background in black and red, then added some of the contrasting cut outs to the red background and white card base.  The sentiment is die cut with a Cuttlebug die, the circles from Spellbinders and Sizzix.   Easy, but love how crisp it looks!

Be sure to check out the Words2ScrapBy.blogspot.com January challenge - #youchoosetheword(s)!

Red Friday and Small Business Saturday

Today is Small Business Saturday, when we are encouraged to shop local, small businesses.  I shopped at a LSS only a few miles from my house.  I want to like that store - I really do.  They have a good selection, the prices are competitive with on line sources.  I had a friend shop with me once.  She didn't like it either, even without me telling her how I felt about the place.  I go in a few times a year, hoping to feel welcome, or at least not unwelcome.  Maybe next time.

I did buy a great Spellbinders Cascading Hearts die.  I saw how Sharon used a background die on her card on the OWH Red Friday blog hop, and wanted to try one for myself.
For my first try, I die cut the white, backed with with black, and mounted onto a red card base.  Corners rounded with my 1/4" We R Memory Keepers chompers.  Sentiment heat embossed.  I like it, but it just didn't have a wow factor for me.  A die that pretty should be on a card with a wow factor!  On to round 2...
I layered the white die cut onto mirror paper, then onto a red base.  I added a Cuttlebug die cut sentiment.  The picture does not show how fabulous the second card is!  I will be making more of these for OWH during their winter card lull, as it could be used for Valentine's Day or just a general love card.   Your thoughts?
