FORMER HEADQUARTERS OF A MONSTER IS TORN DOWN TO HOST JEWISH HOUSING INSTEAD

The Shepherd Hotel in the Sheik Jarrah neighborhood, which served as the headquarters for the nazi-collaborating mufti, has been torn down to make way for Jewish housing:

The old Shepherd Hotel, in the Shimon HaTzaddik-Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood was brought down today (Sunday) by bulldozers in preparation for the construction on the site of a new, 20-unit housing project. The hotel was the former home of Haj Amin Al-Husseini, the mufti of Jerusalem who engineered murderous riots against Jews in 1929 and 1936. During World War II, Husseini met with Hitler and mobilized Muslim support for the Nazis among Muslims.

"It is very symbolic," said Daniel Lurie, Executive Director of the Ateret Cohanim Association, "that the home of this former Nazi sympathizer is being razed – even so many years later – to make way for Jews to return to Jerusalem.

Watching the hotel go down, Lurie said, "This building is a symbol of genocide; Husseini was practically a full-fledged Nazi; the British arrested him for starting pogroms in the 1920's, and he established on his own a unit that murdered hundreds of thousands of Jews in Yugoslavia during World War II… The Jews are now returning to our natural home; no one can claim that Jerusalem is not Jewish, and this particular spot is in the heart of Jerusalem. Some Arabs live here, but it is a Jewish area; Simon the Just is buried here, Jews live right below, the Police Headquarters are located nearby. The natural process of the Jews returning home is continuing, and with G-d's help it will pick up even more steam."

The Shepherd Hotel was purchased by Dr. Irving Moskowitz of the U.S. back in 1985. His plans to build Jewish homes there met up with various bureaucratic and political obstacles, but now – 25 years later – they have begun taking on physical shape and form. Moskowitz and his wife Cherna also purchased the land on which the Ma'aleh HaZeitim complex continues to be built, opposite the Mount of Olives.

Unfortunately, once again, this could not go through without disgraceful reactions from the EU and US government, who again refuse to recognize that this is a privately owned project and oppose Jews living in Jerusalem:

"Calling Jerusalem a settlement is a misinterpretation, an insult to the history of the city," Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor told the French news agency AFP. "It is incomprehensible that they are mixing questions of private rights, international law and politics," he added.

He was reacting to European Union and American condemnation of Israel for Sunday’s demolition of the old and unused Shepherd Hotel. The lot is owned by Irving Moskowitz, an American Jew and a strong supporter of a Jewish presence in all of Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria.

The Prime Minister's Bureau pointed out in a statement that the government was not involved in the demolition and that it was carried out “in accordance with Israeli law. There should be no expectation that the State of Israel will impose a ban on Jews purchasing private property in Jerusalem. No democratic government would impose such a ban on Jews and Israel will certainly not do so.

“Just as Arab residents of Jerusalem can buy or rent property in predominantly Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem," the statement continued, "Jews can buy or rent property in predominantly Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem.”

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the demolition a “disturbing development,” while Catherine Ashton, the foreign policy chief of the EU, repeated her oft-stated stand that ”settlements are illegal under international law, undermine trust between the parties and constitute an obstacle to peace."

The EU, the United States and the United Nations does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over what it calls “East Jerusalem,” meaning large areas of southern, northern and eastern Jerusalem that were restored to Israel in the Six Day War in 1967. The term "settlement" also has been used by U.S. President Barack Obama when referring to United Jerusalem.

Their statements only damage peace prospects and encourage more disrespect from the Islamic world. But we really can't expect much else from them at this point.

Jihad Watch and Atlas Shrugs present some pictures and info from a Coptic rally in Milano, Italy, where the demonstrators against jihadist attacks on Coptic Christians in Egypt scared away several people who wore Israeli flags on their shoulders.

And it definitely is embarrassing as it is shocking. It's not new, that there are Christian "representatives" who've been scapegoating Israel and the Jewish community, which only obscures the real concern, that being the Islamofascists, of course. Sometimes I wonder if this kind of irresponsibility is what discourages some Europeans from finding full faith in Christianity - when the leaders and reps fail to show real guts, and/or resort to blame game tactics against Jews, it might have the effect of making people in Europe feel dispirited, seeing that the leaders are not acting seriously about combatting creeping shari'a.

As Robert Spencer says, not all Copts are anti-semitic, but those who pulled this awful behavior are taking a serious risk of damaging the Jewish community's ability to fully back their cause. How will the war against Islamofascism be fought successfully if communities against it are divided?

I just watched this 50-year-veteran law-enforcement official claim in a televised interview with Megyn Kelly that the horrific murders committed by a disturbed young man (one described by former classmates as a pot-smoking left-wing rocker) had something to do with an “atmosphere” created when “one party is trying to do something to make this country a better country and the other party is trying to block them.”

The party trying to “do something to make the country better” is, of course, the Democrats. The party trying to “block them” is the Republicans.

I THINK THAT LOUGHNER'S LAWYER WILL SAY THAT THIS COMMENT BY ONE OF THE LEAD INVESTIGATORS PROVES THAT HIS CLIENT WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CRIME, BUT THAT HIS BORDERLINE PERSONALITY WAS TWISTED BY THE "VITRIOLIC POLITICAL ATMOSPHERE".

IT'S AS RIDICULOUS AS THE "TWINKIE DEFENSE" (ACTUALLY USED FOR ANOTHER ASSASSINATION), BUT IN THIS CASE THE SHERIFF SEEMS TO BE CORROBORATING IT AND THAT MIGHT CONVINCE SOME JURORS AND LEAD TO A HUNG JURY.

If the shooting in Tucson on Saturday of 20 people, including Ms. Giffords, shook the entire nation, it hit this city’s Jewish community especially hard, most of all those who belonged to Ms. Gifford’s small reform temple , hidden among tall cactuses on a quiet suburban street.

Ms. Giffords was the first Jewish congresswoman from Arizona, a point of pride for many at Congregation Chaverim.

I THINK THIS DERANGED GUNMAN FOCUSED HIS INSANE RAGE AT GIFFORDS IN PART BECAUSE SHE IS JEWISH.

A Partial List of Tragic Events The Left Has Blamed on "Right-Wing Extremists"

Yesterday, when I heard of the shooting of Congresswoman Giffords, my first reaction was to think it must be the work of a right-wing extremist.

However, when I heard the kid's name was Jared - and this is going to sound simplistic, stupid, and nutty - my first reaction was to joke,

"No, no, he's not a right-wing extremist. He has no father, his mother raised him by herself, he hates all authority, especially the military, and he has Medical Marijuana clearance, and a car made out of hemp. That's the story with all 20 year old boys named Jared."

When the truth about Jared Loughner came out, it turns out I was closer than I could have imagined when I made my joke.

Anyway, point is, Jared is not what we initially thought. His lunatic ravings about BCE, AD, and secret languages composed through alphabet cyphers are the types of thoughts that go through the heads of people who have smoked a lot of extremely resin-heavy ganja, and likely dabbled in other psychadelics as well.


Or, as AOW has pointed out, it could be that he is an old-fashioned schizo who went off his meds.

Anyway,

Here is just a partial list of events in which the left-wing and Democratic Party media operation has immediately blamed right-wing rhetoric, only to be proven wrong when the facts finally came out:

Although we really have no power to control what they say or write or desire it like the radical left wants with the fairness doctrine or an overreaching FCC, we do have the power of response and must [respond]. If the party of "GET IN THEIR FACES" want to try to spin this into a conservative vs liberal incident they must be met with fierce intellectual resistance.

DENMARK'S GOVERNMENT IS TURNING OUT THE LIGHTS ON FREE SPEECH

Diana West informs us that Denmark, once considered a beacon for free speech, is now under threat of eliminating it by the government that's turning against it.

She presents a letter from the Danish Free Press Society:

Free speech is under attack in Denmark. Please help us preserve it.

Those who have been following the Danish cartoon crisis and several subsequent attempts by radical Muslims to kill and bomb Danes and Danish institutions may be excused for believing that Denmark is in the forefront of the battle for free speech. And indeed it used to be that way.

No longer. For the past year the Danish public prosecutor has been waging a lawfare offensive against outspoken critics of Islam and Muslim practices.

On December 3, 2010, Member of Parliament Jesper Langballe was convicted of "hate speech" – or as the judge in the lower court of Randers put it: "racial discrimination" – for having called attention to honour killings in Muslim families.

Next in line is Lars Hedegaard, President of the Danish Free Press Society and The International Free Press Society, who will stand trial in the lower court of Frederiksberg on January 24, 2011.

His crime has been to point to the great number of family rapes in areas dominated by Muslim culture. This well documented fact has brought him an indictment under the Danish penal code's "racism" clause: Article 266b.

Both MP Langballe and Lars Hedegaard have long ago emphasised that they did not intend to accuse all Muslims or even the majority of Muslims of such crimes. This has made no impression on the public prosecutor.

We fear that the public prosecutor intends to stifle open debate on Islam and Muslim culture. And we fear that he is doing so with the tacit approval of the governing parties, which first signaled their intention to remove the racism clause from the penal code but have recently recanted.

If the authorities succeed in silencing such critics as Jesper Langballe and Lars Hedegaard, who will dare speak out?

We must put a stop to these attempts to undermine free speech if we wish to preserve Denmark as a free country. And where Denmark – that former beacon of free speech – goes, the rest of the West may follow

DOG LEARNS MORE THAN 1000 WORDS

A border collie has learned more than 1,000 words, showing US researchers that her memory is not only better than theirs, but that she understands quite a bit about how language works.

Chaser learned the names for 1,022 toys, so many that her human handlers had to write on them in marker so that they wouldn't forget, said study co-author Alliston Reid, a psychology professor at Wofford College in South Carolina.

With that repertoire, Chaser has far outpaced another dog, Rico, found by German researchers to be able to grasp about 200 words, according to a study published in 2004 in the journal Science.

As a border collie, Chaser comes from a breed of herding dog known for its intelligence, energy and strong work ethic.

Reid said she might be able to learn even more words, but her keepers stopped at 1,022 after three years of training simply because of time constraints.

Winter woes were compounded in north India as the intense cold wave kept people numb with mercury dipping further in the region on Wednesday and resulting in 12 more deaths.

The cold wave intensified in Kashmir division, including Ladakh, as the minimum temperature across the state dipped several degrees further with Leh town freezing at minus 23 deg C.

Leh was the coldest in Kashmir division at minus 23 deg C, which was 2.8 degrees lower than the minimum temperature recorded on Tuesday.

Europe’s sovereign debt crisis is back — if it ever went away.

Less than a month after bailing out Ireland, and following a holiday lull in the markets that may have looked mistakenly like calming, the European Union is again struggling to persuade investors that it has the cash and will to address the root cause of the euro zone’s travails: a growing debt overhang that is strangling governments and their banks.

On Friday, the yield on Portuguese 10-year sovereign bonds hit a recent high of 7.1 percent, the cost of insuring the debt of banks in Italy and Spain rose sharply, and the euro hit a three-month low against the dollar.

DECEMBER 2010: BRITAIN'S & NORTHERN IRELAND'S COLDEST EVER!

THE MET OFFICE - OF CLIMATEGATE FAME - HAS CONFIRMED IT:

Provisional figures from the Met Office issued this week reveal that December 2010 has become the coldest December across the UK since the national series began in 1910.

The mean temperature for the UK has been minus1.0 °C, well below the long term average of 4.2 °C.

The previous coldest December in the record was 0.1 °C, in 1981.

The provisional UK, England and Wales December 2010 figures show that the month was the coldest month since February 1986. In Scotland it was the coldest month since February 1947 and in Northern Ireland, the coldest month on record.

It was also the coldest month recorded in the last 100 years with a mean temperature of -0.6 Celsius.

However, a sunshine total of 78.7 hours made December 2010 the sunniest on record.

The Met Office said 2010, with an estimated mean temperature of 8 Celsius, was the coldest year in NI since 1986.

Egypt Threatens NYC/Bloomberg Removal of Cleopatra's Needle

Since 1881, the obelisk known as Cleopatra's Needle has stood in New York's Central Park, but a letter from the secretary general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities indicates that this may change if the monument is not taken better care of.

Recently, Zahi Hawass, the aforementioned secretary general and archaeologist, wrote to the Central Park Conservancy and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to inform them that if steps are not taken to protect the obelisk, it would be removed. [Image of obelisk]

"I am glad that this monument has become such an integral part of New York City, but I am dismayed at the lack of care and attention that it has been given," Hawass wrote. "Recent photographs that I have received show the severe damage that has been done to the obelisk, particularly to the hieroglyphic text, which in places has been completely worn away. I have a duty to protect all Egyptian monuments whether they are inside or outside of Egypt. If the Central Park Conservancy and the City of New York cannot properly care for this obelisk, I will take the necessary steps to bring this precious artifact home and save it from ruin."

The obelisk was originally one of a pair - the other currently resides in London - built around 1500 B.C. to honor Pharaoh Thutmose III. They were placed in the ancient city Heliopolis in Egypt, where they sat for a little over 1,500 years until 18 A.D., when they were taken by the Romans and placed at the entrance of the Ceasarium in Alexandria, according to TravellersinEgypt.com, a website that compiles information from people who have traveled in Egypt.

In 1869, to commemorate the opening of the Suez Canal, the Khedive of Egypt, Ismail Pasha, gave the United States the obelisk that now sits in Central Park. The gift was an attempt to cultivate trade relations between the two countries, according to the Central Park Conservancy. It would still take another decade for the obelisk to reach the park.
