Now that the left-wing blogosphere and Democratic media operatives Media Matters and Think Progress have found the Religion of Context when it comes to Shirley Sherrod ...
how about finally apologizing for the months long smear in 2009 that Census worker Bill Sparkman was killed by anti-government, Tea Party-affiliated, right-wing talk show inspired extremists. Think Progress, which is leading the charge on Sherrod, linked the Sparkman killing to Michele Bachmann's concerns that the Census was too intrusive, and numerous left-wing bloggers did the same.
There never was a shred of evidence to support the allegations, and it turned out that Sparkman committed suicide.
And while we're at it, how about some apologies for all the false allegations by Frank Rich, Paul Krugman, Charles Blow and numerous left-wing bloggers claiming that health care protesters were violent, and falsely linking the Tea Parties to the Amy Bishop shooting, the IRS Plane Crasher, the Fort Hood attack, and the Pentagon shooter.
And while we're at it, all the left-wing bloggers who called health care protesters thugs and a mob and astroturf and terrorists and Birthers and harassers and manufactured and frightening and vicious and "Karl Rove's wet dream."
And while we're at it, the Democratic Party and left-wing bloggers who have seized on a strategy of painting all political opponents as crazy.
And while we're at it, how about Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer apologizing for calling health care protesters "un-American"; and Harry Reid for comparing opposition to Obamacare to opposition to ending slavery; and Sheldon Whitehouse for invoking Kristallnacht and comparing health care opponents to white supremacists; and Alan Grayson and his groupies for saying Republicans wanted patients to die; and the Southern Poverty Law Center for serving as a tool of the Democratic Party by branding legitimate political opposition as racist.
And while we're at it, how about all those who have elevated the use of the race card to the central tool in the Democratic Party arsenal, thereby tearing at the fabric of this country (and ruining my Saturday nights).
And while we're at it, the Democratic base which thinks it's a riot to make fun of Trig Palin.
There are so many apologies needed. Shirley Sherrod is the least of them.

All excellent points, and of course you will only hear the sound of crickets chirping.
ReplyDeleteI noticed you forgot a few in your list:
"...and falsely linking the Tea Parties to the Amy Bishop shooting, the IRS Plane Crasher, the Fort Hood attack, and the Pentagon shooter."
How about the knee-jerk labeling of the Holocaust Museum shooter as a conservative wacko, and the shooter in Binghamton, NY, last year? Turned out both of these guys were leftist or liberal sympathizing lunes. Both stories dropped off the radar as soon as the truth was revealed, just like Amy Bishop in the U AL shooting.
Apologize.....why? They took their pot shots, they smeared their enemies. Good day for them, in their evil, twisted book.
Don't hold your breath.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you ever *do* get an apology from an O-bot, expect it to be a backdoor insult. Like this:

Ah, the shameless right! Your side makes a mistake and instead of apologizing and moving on, you feel the need to vindicate yourselves with a litany of prior complaints, only a small portion of which are actually relevant.
ReplyDeleteTwo ... uh, multiple ... wrongs do not make a right.
ReplyDeleteShirley Sherrod deserved an apology even though lefies who are wrong NEVER apologize. The willingness to apologize when wrong is one of those many things that demonstrates that the right to be more honorable than the left.
Conservatarian, what does Sherrod deserve an apology for and from whom? She continues to see things through the prism of race, calling health care opponents racists.
ReplyDeleteWilliam, you can add Dan Riehl to the list of those who should apologize. He never walked back his insinuation that the census worker was probably killed because he was a child molester (he wasn't).
Kincaid, what, exactly, is the mistake? Please explain.
ReplyDeleteI read about this a day or two ago and it seems to be going unnoticed. You interested?
ReplyDeleteMeet the New Journolist, Smaller Than the Old Journolist

The original purpose of the video was to sow the reactions of the NAACP audience before Sherrod got to her "what I learned form this" punchline. She is still a left wing nut-case, but the portion of the clip unfairly depicted her story.
ReplyDeleteThere's no use complaining about it. You could do more good complaining to terrorists that they blow up women and children.
ReplyDeleteIf you want them to stop, make them stop.
What about apologies to Rush Limbaugh for foiling his bid to buy the St. Louis Rams by attributing to him totally fabricated quotes and only noticing the quotes were fabricated AFTER he withdrew from the bid?
ReplyDelete>She is still a left wing nut-case, but the portion of the clip unfairly depicted her story.
ReplyDeleteNo, it didn't. It depicted what it depicted. Breitbart made no "edit" of the video - he presented the excerpt he was given. There was no "alteration" or "edit" made. It was just an excerpted clip that he was given on a DVD in April, and was denied the full video by the NAACP when he asked for it prior to publishing.
Details matter. Context matters.
You know - like it does when Media Matters ships and clips and bastardizes conservative quotes from Rush Limbaugh or anybody else and fills in its own "context" between its snips of transcripts.
One might say they engage in the same behavior they accuse and chide others for engaging in. Times ten.
Breitbart didn't fire the NAACP racist. Obama did.
Whether or not Shirley Sherrod is owed an apology has nothing to do with the fact that so many liberal pundits and politicians are hypocritical little shits.
ReplyDeleteThe point of the video wasn't Sherrod anyway. It was the reaction of those in attendance before the full context had unfolded. Interesting that when she states that she was learning it wasn't about race but class, the response was awkward and she quickly moves on.
ReplyDeleteBreitbart had an article and TWO videos that prompted all of this... not ONE.
ReplyDeleteIt is necessary to read the article, see both videos and understand what he is saying within the framework of the article. Those videos showed what was necessary to support the article - the audience reaction to a racist remark. Out of a 41 minute video, how many will watch for the minute or so that the comments in the two clips appear? Would anyone do that? We would hear complaints of 'its too hard to find' or 'what part of the video is it on?' or 'can't you edit this down?'
Anyone looking at BOTH videos understood Sherrod's timeline and that she got 'past' the immediate racial context and then moved on to another context about poverty and race. That position, not just the context, is supported by the full presentation.
I am dismayed by the full presentation as it shows a government worker who does not understand their responsibilities, hold to them thusly demonstrating ethics, and who refuses to separate out her work descriptions from political viewpoint. The concept of the USDA running its own home mortgage system (which I had not known about) was horrifying, to say the least. But no one notices these things due to the race card being thrown around. That is a couple of weeks of 'sensitivity training' purgatory in my books, not a grounds for firing based on the outcomes seen. The rest of it? Major problems, but that is only based on the responsibility of federal employees to the public and differentiating work from personal life and political advocacy.

Except, when you look at the latest vid of her "lamenting" that a white man is "already lye- in up to buy" her family's property. It is conclusive that Sherrod is but a racist pig. A "WHITE MAN" indeed. And, there is no punchline that but or that white man her family's property would be foreclosed upon and altoghether lost.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I am glad that Breitbart does what he does, I wish he had gone an extra mile to make completely clear to even the casual reader who was also a detractor, his point (the audience reaction). No, he is not obligated to do more than he has done, but I wish he had.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I am a SKEPTIC. Does not matter who is putting forth opinion supported by video(s), any of which can easily be cut/edited to the author's advantage. This only serves to reinforce my inclination to question all I see reported, by any and all.
And while we're at it - the whole "phony soldiers" charade. C'mon!
ReplyDeleteConservatarian, we all know what the purpose of the video was. Focus on Sherrod was not the purpose of the video. I'll ask you again since you ignored my question, what does Sherrod deserve an apology for and from whom?
ReplyDeleteIf you believe she deserves an apology, then I think you should easily be able to answer those questions.
Before we continue, we should drop the left's hijacking of the words "racist" and "racism". Continuing to misuse these words just legitimizes the left's tactics.
ReplyDeleteRacism is the belief in the inherent superiority of one race over another. What we have here is not racism, but bigotry. She's a bigot. I see no evidence that she's a racist.
