What Would Breitbart Do? Rally for Rush!

Jeffrey Lord's latest must-read in the American Spectator is a call to action to defend free speech, inspired by Andrew Breitbart's example. It traces the advertisers that have abandoned Rush's program, many after decades of support. Lord notes that only a pathetic 21 percent of Americans identify themselves as liberals. And he rightly observes that disenfranchising 79 percent of Americans is a decidedly flawed business strategy.

The time to be bullied is over. You hear me? It's over.

Here's how we're going to fight back against "The Sickly Seven", as I like to call the advertisers who abandoned Rush over calling the woman a "slut" when a more apt description would be "lying plant."

Hugh Hewitt has about the best summary of the CNN Democrat (I mean) Republican debate last night that I have read:

[...] Last night's fiasco was so thorough that it will take a while to settle in just how damaging it was to CNN's reputation as a news organization. From the awful judgment displayed with the opening guitar serenade through the preposterous selection of topics and questions right to the stark reality that CNN either was easily and completely manipulated by the Dems with planted question after planted question or were totally complicit in the hijacking of a Republican debate designed to serve Republican primary voters about who ought to be the Republican nominee. The network is either incompetent in a way no serious news organization should be, or wholly captured by agenda journalists of the left.

No serious anchor would want to be where [Anderson] Cooper is today, at the center of a vast train wreck which cannot be explained away as the inevitable result of the sudden appearance of big news in a difficult setting, as with hysterical Katrina coverage of bodies stacked in freezers and gun fights in the Superdome, or the result of the input of bad data, as with the early call of Florida for Gore in 2000.

No, this [is] premeditated mediocrity. The network had months to prepare and consider and execute. But even with all that time, it lacked the minimal talent necessary to produce a serious debate about important issues using new technology. All it could deliver was a carnival of bad taste, trick questions, and full frontal left wing bias.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin has got CNN dead to rights for just how tricked up these questions and questioners really were. I am so glad that this is coming out, because the American people deserve better than the double standard they have been spoon fed by those elites who "know better" than they do. I actually heard Tom Brokaw call out CNN today on the Hewitt show, and Brokaw is no right winger.

My issue with last night is not so much the questions asked; yes many questions were over the top--hell, the guy with the Bible was little more than a sneering heckler. But a President should be expected to know how to handle a hostile questioner. In a perfect world it wouldn't bother me to see Republicans pose the questions in a Democrat debate and vice versa. After all, the idea is to see how a potential candidate can handle the pressure. I think that sort of debate would be a big improvement over what we have gotten to date, because (on the Democrat side anyway) most of the questions have been layups. Pointed questioning would serve the public good. However the kind of heckling questions we saw last night were nothing more than a lame attempt to brainwash the viewers in to thinking that the vast majority of Americans are partisan Democrats.

The problem in this instance with CNN is that for its Democrat YouTube debate, the questions were from a partisan Democrat perspective. In the CNN Republican debate... the questions were from a partisan Democrat perspective. So we are supposed to believe that a network with the resources like CNN can only find good video questions from the political left of the YouTube generation? Have they not been paying attention to bloggers like Michelle Malkin, Allah, Bryan Preston, and Mary Katherine Ham? Please.

No, this was truly a disgrace; and to pretend that it was not done purposefully is a flat out lie to the people of the United States; every bit as much so as were the Rather lies and The New Republic's lies. CNN has now joined MSNBC and the network of Rather as selling out completely to Soros and the MoveOn left. It was pathetic, and a really sad day for American journalism. William Randolph Hurst would have been proud.

The drive-by media had a field day with Don Imus's stupid use of trashy epithets, and they are having a field day with Duane "Dog" Chapman's stupid, foul-mouthed trash-talking.

But what Joe Biden said to the Washington Post was worse:

After a lengthy critique of Bush administration education policies, Biden attempted to explain why some schools perform better than others -- for instance, in Iowa, as compared to Washington D.C.

"There's less than one percent of the population of Iowa that is African American. There is probably less than four of five percent that are minorities. What is in Washington? So look, it goes back to what you start off with, what you're dealing with," said Biden.

"When you have children coming from dysfunctional homes, when you have children coming from homes where there's no books, where the mother from the time they're born doesn't talk to them -- as opposed to the mother in Iowa who's sitting out there and talks to them, the kid starts out with a 300 word larger vocabulary at age three. Half this education gap exists before the kid steps foot in the classroom," Biden said.

Why is that worse? He didn't use the "N" word, did he? No. What he said was worse than that. Because instead of just using a trashy epithet, he went out of his way to explicitly opine that all black children come from dysfunctional homes without books and without mothers to talk to them. That's really far more vicious than merely using a trashy epithet that hip hop rappers use fifty times in a 2 minute video.

But he gets a complete pass from the drive-by media.

Without alternative internet media, like Newsbusters or Hot Air, the story would have disappeared. Did you hear anything about Al Sharpton denouncing him? Did a long line of Senators demand that he apologize from the pit of the Senate?

JOURNALISTS CONFUSED - IS JERI THOMPSON A DUMB BIMBO OR AN EVIL GENIUS?

The slow transition from "Jeri Thompson is a bimbo" through "isn't it totally weird how lots of people may or may not think Jeri Thompson is a bimbo" to "Jeri Thompson is an evil genius" is almost complete:

On the Republican side, Jeri Thompson, wife of former senator Fred D. Thompson of Tennessee, has become controversial because of her heavy involvement in the day-to-day operations of her husband's potential campaign despite having relatively little political experience.

You can see the tension - is she an interfering wench or the next leftist Darth Vader photoshop? It depends on how well the Thompson campaign does. If the left can't explain Thompson's popularity (because why would anyone support Republicans?), the meme will slide to "evil genius". If the Thompson campaign flounders, the ostensible progressives on the left will be more than happy to settle for "see, we told you she was a sorority girl gender traitor bimbo". Seething and resentful hypocrisy - always in fashion.

AP: IDF MURDERS CIVILIAN WHO INNOCENTLY WANDERED UP TO HIS ROOF IN THE MIDDLE OF A FIREFIGHT

The IDF is finally beginning to consider doing the minimum to respond to months of rocket fire against Israeli schools and hospitals. There is a brutal firefight going on in the Gaza Strip right now. Israeli soldiers are being engaged by Hamas soldiers and Islamic Jihad terrorists who are armed with weapons that have shockingly - shockingly - slipped into the Strip in the last month or so. A single airstrike took out six Islamic Jihad members - these are not random terrorists firing from the inside of windows. These are organized armed units firing rockets and automatic weapons at armed Israeli units. Except apparently for this innocent civilian. According to the AP, he just happened to wander onto his roof - where snipers hang out - at the time of the firefight. He was then gunned down by heartless Zionists:

Palestinian medical officials said a second civilian, Ibrahim al-Shami, 40, was fatally shot by soldiers when he went out onto the roof of his house and that of a total of 15 people wounded, seven were civilians. The army often carries out raids into Gaza to target militants and to thwart rocket fire toward Israeli towns.

You think he was up there fixing his satellite dish or something? We're even more impressed by the AFP version of events, which fails to mention that this undoubtedly innocent man just happened to be on a rooftop during a firefight. AFP stringer Sakher Abu El Oun gallantly limits himself to merely noting that, you know, those Israelis - they kill civilians. The JPost roundup on this gets a statement from the IDF to the effect that the satellite-dish repairmen was a gunman - believe it or not, journalists are supposed to print denials from official sources, yes? Certainly they always do when Hezbollah or Hamas is like "we didn't do it even though there are pictures that we did it". Wonder how the Israeli clarification slipped through.

UN AND GAZA BUSINESSMEN AGREE: IT'S ISRAEL'S FAULT THAT HAMAS HAS INTENTIONALLY CREATED A HUMANITARIAN DISASTER BY BLOCKING FOOD AND MEDICAL AID

Oh really?

UN officials and Gaza businessmen have warned that the coastal strip's economy could collapse unless Israel reopens crucial commercial trade crossings it closed after Hamas seized control of Gaza. Israel refuses to do business with the terrorist group that has killed hundreds of people in suicide bombings. In recent weeks, some border points were opened to transfer humanitarian supplies. But no industrial materials have entered Gaza, bringing construction activity and manufacturing to a halt. Forty-two percent of those Palestinians questioned said some food items were in short supply, and 80 percent of business owners polled said they were having difficulties getting raw materials.

Actually, Israel tried to reopen the crossings to send in food. But Hamas has banned all Israeli produce from the Gaza Strip - sixty trucks of produce went to waste just that day. Why would Hamas intentionally starve their own civilians? Because they want to hurt Israeli farmers and they know Israel will get the blame anyway. It's like a win-win-lose, and they don't particularly care about who's losing. They've also set up roadblocks to block medical aid. That doesn't really do anything to hurt Israeli farmers - but hey, at least Israel gets demonized. And sometimes, that's more than enough. At least the UN and the AP are refusing to reward Hamas's tactics by scapegoating Israel.

Those still subscribing to the newspaper would be well advised to cancel their subscriptions, because the Los Angeles Times is clearly determined to undermine justice in the war on terrorism, as they show with this latest hogwash (Hat tip: Rhymes With Right). They say:

John Walker Lindh broke the law. But 'the American Taliban' wasn't a terrorist, and he deserves clemency.

What?!? Excuse me? Seperating between just about anything he actually did and the descriptions that fit the crimes is unforgivably obscene. He should be sent to chair, pure and simple. This is propaganda and denial of the worst kind.

June 29, 2007: U.S. troops have been mystified at how differently the war they fight in Iraq is portrayed by the U.S. media back home. Most just shrug it off as "politics," and yet another reason to not trust what the mass media presents as reliable reporting. But recently, the troops have been passing around an interesting discovery. Namely, that the Japanese psychological warfare effort during World War II included radio broadcasts that could be picked up by American troops. Popular music was played, but the commentary (by one of several English speaking Japanese women) always hammered away on the same points;

1 Your President (Franklin D Roosevelt) is lying to you.

2 This war is illegal.

3 You cannot win the war.

The troops are perplexed and somewhat amused that their own media is now sending out this message. Fighting the enemy in Iraq is simple, compared to figuring out what news editors are thinking back home.

When it comes to the news media you have to ask yourself. Whose side are they on anyway?

THE MEDIA LIES- CIVILIANS IN GAZA MYSTERIOUSLY APPEAR IN DESOLATE WARZONES, REAPPEAR IN MEDIA COVERAGE

We wish we could just invent things that make no sense and get them treated as "our side" of the story. "Omri Ceren today claimed to have the best-read blog on the planet, but other bloggers cast doubt on that claim". That would be awesome. But alas, we're not Palestinians:

An air strike was called in near the Karni crossing between Gaza and Israel after gunmen were spotted approaching Israeli forces in the area. The army said the activity was against "terror threats" in Gaza, where Hamas fighters overran security forces loyal to Western-backed Palestinian president Abbas on June 15, effectively creating an Islamic enclave on Israel's doorstep. Medics said 11 Palestinians were killed, including eight fighters in the armed Islamic Jihad, Hamas and the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades linked to Abbas's Fatah party. Three civilians were killed, including a 12-year-old boy.

Naturally, this is a lie. All the Palestinians killed in the firefight were gunmen. Now why would we believe Israel and not the Palestinians? Mostly because we're able to ask questions like "hey, how would a 12 year old end up in the no-man's land next to the Gaza fence?" Unless he was actually one of the gunmen, which isn't exactly unheard of.

It is nice to see that the international media is paying attention to Gaza civilians though. For some reason that phrase hasn't come up much in the last two weeks - apparently no civilians in Gaza were getting killed during that time, huh? Oh - and it's also nice to see that the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades still have some fight left in them. Not enough to prevent Hamas from rolling over them, killing their leaders and dragging their bodies through the streets, and destroying their schools and homes. But enough to try to kill Israelis.

NBC BEIRUT CHIEF: AQ FIGHTERS MAKING "ALAMO-LIKE LAST STAND"

Richard Engel could have chosen any well-known last stand from any point in history as his lede for the LAF shelling of terrorists. We would suggest Custer, but there are plenty of options. Instead he choose to take one of the most emblematic symbols of American bravery:

One Palestinian refugee camp here in northern Lebanon is today a smoldering, sniper-infested, booby-trapped battlefield where a few hundred al-Qaida inspired fighters have been making an Alamo-like last stand against the Lebanese army.

We're not sure what's particularly "Alamo-like" in this last stand that the last-stand-ishness of the suicidal battle itself doesn't cover, but we'd certainly be interested in finding out. At least he didn't use Masada.

WHO EXACTLY IS THE "DIVISIVE" SARKOZY DIVIDING

TAB has been covering the reactions to Sarkozy's election coming from some of the more violent segments of the French population (e.g. here and here) . We'd like to be more specific than that, but we only know what we read in the press - and although they've been very insistent that Sarkozy is "divisive", they've been a little less forthcoming on precisely where those divisions lie. Because that description seems a little weird to us, given how he drew support from across almost all sectors of French society:

Nicolas Sarkozy won the women's vote and fared well among blue-collar workers, even though his rival for the French presidency was a woman and a Socialist. It was one of the surprising subplots in Sarkozy's resounding election victory over Segolene Royal — and shows his vision of pro-market reforms and scaling back immigration appeals to a wide audience. Sarkozy's ability to attract votes from a broad spectrum of the public is an early indication he may be able to overcome his image as a polarizing force and achieve crucial popular support for pushing through his ambitious program of overhauling France's welfare system.

Well, almost all sectors. AP got the number of burned cars wrong by an entire order of magnitude, did they? And that's compared to the undoubtedly lowballed numbers provided by the French press, is it? We refuse to believe it.

The legislation aims to revive the so-called “Fairness Doctrine” of the 1940’s: “all views” are to be given equal time on radio. In particular, the Federal Communications Commission would have the power to oversee and change radio and television content.

The goal is to tilt the ideological balance of power away from the right on the nation’s air waves.

Andrea Elliott's three-part series exploring Islam in America through the imam Reda Shata of the Bay Ridge mosque in Brooklyn was powerfully critiqued by Washington Times columnist Diana West:

Both the New York Post and the New York Sun have already pounced on the most egregious flaw of omission: not a mention, in 11,000-plus words, of the day in March 1994 when a man walked out of that same Bay Ridge mosque and, inspired by the anti-Jewish sermon of the day (delivered by a different, unidentified imam), armed himself and opened fire on a van carrying Hasidic Jewish children. Ari Halberstam, 16, was killed. The Times series, as it happened, concluded on the 12th anniversary of his death.

First we have Nobel Peace Prizes awarded to people who dedicate themselves to genocidal warfare, and now we have the Pulitzers lauding journalists who do (at best) half-assed journalism. But hey, at least their hearts are in the right place.

VIOLATIONS FORCE FEINSTEIN MILITARY COMMITTEE RESIGNATION

By now you've probably heard about the resignation of California Democrat Senator Diane Feinstein from the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee due to the fact that her husband (who is a defense contractor) has financially benefited from her actions.

Oh, you haven't heard about it? That's not surprising as the only people covering the story are conservative bloggers. When you do a Google News search, you get hits from Judicial Watch, Stop The ACLU, The Jawa Report and WorldNetDaily...and that's it. Don't believe me? Try it yourself. And yet people like Eric Alterman say "What Liberal Media?" Don't make me laugh.
