Gasoline: the real price-gougers

Hurricane Ike threatens our largest oil refineries...

Gas prices hit all-time highs...

...and the Democrat-controlled Congress continues to prohibit drilling for energy around 93% of the U.S. In fact, they even prohibit exploration!

It's nothing new. In 1994 Democrat Bill Clinton vetoed exploration in Alaska

In 2008 Democrat Nancy Pelosi claimed that drilling for oil is a "hoax".

And in July of this year Democrat Ken Salazar refused to consider drilling even if gas hit $10 a gallon!

Ten dollar gas? Vote for Energy. Vote McCain-Palin.

WHO IS SARAH PALIN?

"Babies, guns, Jesus... Hot damn."--Rush Limbaugh talking about Governor Sarah Palin

I am still giddy about McCain picking Palin for VP!! As Simon Cowell said to David Cook this past season, "That was a very brave thing to do and I LOVED it." Politically, this is the most exciting news I can think of for years.

My friends and I were talking and to have the first woman on the Republican ticket be such a likable, strong conservative is just more than we could've hoped for. When people like Elizabeth Dole or other women appeared like they would be the first you just couldn't get excited about them.

Yet, I had done the homework on this woman and knew she was awesome. There is so much about her to like. She has the entire package of brains, beauty, charisma, strong conservative beliefs and credentials and she is a proven reformer and executive. I and others had thought she would be awesome and were talking about her but kudos to Bill Kristol for predicting her to be the pick when no one else gave it that much credibility.

The liberals and the Drive By Media are screaming to high heaven about her so you know they are scared. "Me thinketh thou dost protesteth a little too loudly." My friend's liberal husband is depressed about the pick so that should tell you something. Michael Savage trashed the pick too which is another sign that she's awesome. They can whine and criticize all they want. I'm too happy about the pick to care.

Here is a brief bio list on her:
--Head of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at her high school
--Earned the nickname "Sarah Barracuda" for being an intense basketball player in high school where she helped her team win a championship game
--Bachelor's Degree in Journalism
--In 1984, she won the Miss Wasilla beauty contest, then finished 2nd in the Miss Alaska pageant
--Married her high school sweetheart in 1988 (on the same exact day as my husband and I, just 4 years earlier)
--Sports reporter for local Anchorage television stations
--Worked as a commercial fisher woman with her husband
--Served two terms on the Wasilla city council from 1992 to 1996
--Served 2 terms as Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska
--Elected president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors
--Exposed corruption within the Republican party
--Won the Governorship of Alaska in a landslide and is currently serving with an 80% approval rating
--Hockey Mom of 5
--Strongly pro-life, just gave birth to a Downs syndrome baby this past April
--Pro-2nd Amendment, life long member of the NRA
--For Drilling in ANWAR
--Her oldest son enlisted in the Army last year
--fiscal conservative
--pro-business and pro-development

Obama: "John McCain doesn't know what he's up against"

Can you believe the nerve? Barack Obama on the campaign trail: "I don't intend to lose this election. John McCain doesn't know what he's up against raht now."

Oh, I think he does. He's up against a Chicago politican with disturbing, suspicious ties to convicted felons; a man who lies about his far left abortion record on a routine basis; a man whose every mentor was a Marxist or an out-and-out Communist; a man who won't release any of his records (from the Annenberg Challenge, to his law-firm records, to his state legislative background or even his medical records); a man who sat for twenty years in a church that spewed the most virulent forms of racism and hatred (and then lied about hearing any of it); a man who promised his MoveOn pals that he would disarm America; and a man who routinely changes positions for partisan advantage, sometimes in a matter of hours.

And a man who treats John McCain, a certified war hero and ex-POW, like a punk. That's who John McCain is up against.

TSUNAMI OF FIRST-TIME DEM VOTERS WILL DECIDE PENNSYLVANIA PRIMARY - BUT WHO ARE THEY REALLY FOR?

NYTIMES: History is being made in the suburbs of Philadelphia.
The four suburban counties have long been Republican strongholds, with more Republican voters than Democratic ones. The last time there were more Democrats than Republicans seems lost in the mist of time.

But a new day is here. Voter enrollment in both Montgomery and Bucks Counties has flipped from Republican to Democratic.

The registration deadline was March 24, and tens of thousands of new registrations flooded in, from both new voters and party switchers. Elections officials have been counting them and posting the changes in drips and drabs.

Now, the new tally in Bucks shows 185,413 enrolled Democrats, compared with 181,941 enrolled Republicans.

In Montgomery County, the new tally shows 245,209 Democrats, compared with 238,208 Republicans.

While both counties have been voting Democratic periodically for more than a decade, the registration figures have not reflected that trend until now.

“We’re pretty excited,” said John Cordisco, chairman of the Bucks County Democratic Party and a candidate for state treasurer.

Mr. Cordisco said that previous registration drives had created momentum for the change but that “disgust” with the Bush administration and excitement over the Democratic presidential primary had accelerated it. He said he thought the last time Bucks was Democratic may have been the 1960s.

The campaigns of Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton undertook intense voter-registration drives in the suburbs, and across Pennsylvania. Signing up new voters was a particular strategy for Mr. Obama, who has also sought to appeal to independents and Republicans.

No one knows for sure which candidate will benefit the most from the surge.
WHAT MIGHT THIS MEAN?
  • ARE THEY MOSTLY EXCITED DEMS, EAGER TO VOTE FOR THEIR CANDIDATE?
  • OR, ARE THEY EAGER TO VOTE AGAINST THE OTHER CANDIDATE?
  • OR... ARE THEY MOSTLY REPUBLICANS WHO ARE SWITCHING JUST TO EFF UP THE DEMS?
  • I'M NOT TOO WORRIED: MANY OF HILLARY'S SUPPORTERS WILL VOTE MCCAIN IF OBAMA GETS THE NOMINATION; (ENOUGH TO POUT HIM OVER THE TOP).
  • AND OBAMA'S SUPPORTERS NAY JUST STAY HOME - OR VOTE FOR NADER.
TIME WILL TELL...

The AP and the NYTIMES have been caught in another huge anti-McCain lie

THIS IS WHAT THE AP REPORTED:
McCain Flashes Temper at Reporter

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: March 7, 2008

Filed at 6:47 p.m. ET

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Republican Sen. John McCain, showing a flash of the temper he is known for, repeatedly cut off a reporter Friday when asked whether he had spoken to Democratic Sen. John Kerry about being his vice president in 2004. ''Everybody knows that I had a private conversation. Everybody knows that, that I had a conversation,'' McCain told the reporter. ''And you know it, too. No. You know it, too. No. You do know. You do know.''

The reporter, Elisabeth Bumiller of The New York Times, was following up on a question McCain had answered at a campaign event Friday morning in Atlanta. Asked if he might consider Kerry as a running mate, since Kerry asked him in 2004, McCain said no.

Afterward, on a campaign flight, Bumiller said she looked in the Times' archives and that McCain had denied talking with Kerry in a May 2004 story.

McCain interrupted, saying that everyone knew he had a private conversation, and he kept interrupting as she tried to follow up. McCain clearly was irate.

IS THE NYTIMES' MCCAIN SMEAR THE RUMOR THE LATIMES KEPT SECRET?

Back in October, 2007, there were rumors flying around that the LATIMES had a sexual scandal story against one of the candidates which it has on hold.

There was a lot of speculation - incluidng that it was about Hillary and her female chief aide.

NOW, THE NYTIMES PUBLISHES A BLATANT SMEAR AGAINST MCCAIN.

I wonder if the McCain smear by the NYTIMES (which had endorsed McCain months ago despite HAVING HAD THIS STORY AT THE TIME) is the same story the LATIMES kept buried?

And from the looks of it, it was kept buried because there's no THERE there; there is no scandal.

At least not involving McCain.

THE REAL SCANDAL IS THE EXTRAORDINARY BIAS OF THE MSM: Obama has been a corrupt lawyer for the Chicago Machine for a decade and deeply involved with an indicted slum-lord (REZKO - do a word search at this blog for the WHOLE slimy corrupt story) and no one will touch the story. The two CHicago newspapers have done several investigative pieces which are extremely disturbing - in that they reveal REAL corruption by Obama, but no one will "drive the story home; SURE: the NYTIMES did a single story on it and then dropped it - without ever confronting Obama; it was more like they ran it to inoculate him, than anything else.

COMPLETE RPUND UP AT MEMEORANDUM.

WHICH HYPHENATED AMERICAN WILL WIN THE PRESDIENCY, MCCAIN OR OBAMA?

WHO WILL WIN, THE ARAB-AMERICAN OR THE AMERICAN WAR-HERO? (OBAMA IS 50% WHITE AND ONE-EIGHTH BLACK; HIS FATHER WAS MOSTLY ARAB.)

WHO WILL WIN, THE LEFT-WINGER OR THE WAR-HERO?

WHO WILL WIN THE EMPTY-NOVICE OR THE TIME-TESTED STATESMAN?

DUH.

IN AMERICA, (SINCE "OLD HICKORY" WAS ELECTED HIMSELF), THE ANDREW JACKSON CANDIDATE ALWAYS BEATS THE JOHN QUINCY ADAMS CANDIDATE.

The general always beats the professor. (ONLY three way races change this.)

OBAMA SUBTLY ATTACKS MCCAIN AS BEING OLD AND PASSE

Deval Obama - er um I mean Barack Hussein Obama attacked McCain in his victory speech tonight saying McCain is old and part of the past - YESTERDAY, and that HE - OBAMA -IS TOMORROW; HE - OBAMA - IS THE REVOLUTION!

Yawn.

McCain said this tonight:
I will fight every moment of every day in this campaign to make sure Americans are not deceived by an eloquent but empty call for change that promises no more than a holiday from history and a return to the false promises and failed policies of a tired philosophy that trusts in government more than people.
McCain should counters that he has GREAT experience and is a proven leader while Obama has NO EXPERIENCE and is entirely unproven. Here's how McCain should handle this line of attack, it's rhetorically much simpler than the above line:

"In risky times - when you don't know what challenge tomorrow may bring - you shouldn't put your trust in someone who is untested and inexperienced. The Oval Office is no place for novices - especially in today's world."

When Reagan made his old age joke, in the second debate against Mondale, he was kidding in a warm, humane and self-deprecating way. (About 2:12 into the video.)

With McCain the contrast is STARK and not so funny.

Mondale was vastly more qualified than Obama - perhaps more qualified than Obama will EVER be.

For this reason alone everyone should vote McCain.

HEROES VERSUS HAMS: MCCAIN WAS A POW FOR LONGER THAN OBAMA HAS BEEN IN THE SENATE

WIKI:
In August of 1968, a program of vigorous torture methods began on McCain, using rope bindings into painful positions, and beatings every two hours, at the same time as he was suffering from dysentery.[47][43]

Teeth and bones were broken again, as was McCain's spirit; the beginning of a suicide attempt was stopped by guards.[43] After four days of this, McCain signed an anti-American propaganda "confession" that said he was a "black criminal" and an "air pirate",[43] although he used stilted Communist jargon and ungrammatical language to signal that the statement was forced.[51] He felt then and always that he had dishonored his country, his family, his comrades and himself by his statement,[58] but as he would later write, "I had learned what we all learned over there: Every man has his breaking point. I had reached mine."[47]

His injuries to this day have left him incapable of raising his arms above his head.[13]

Two weeks later his captors tried to force him to sign a second statement, and this time, his will to resist restored, he refused.[47] He received two to three beatings per week because of his continued refusal.[59]

Other American POWs were similarly tortured and maltreated in order to extract "confessions".[47] On one occasion, a guard surreptitiously loosened McCain's painful rope bindings for a night; when months later the guard later saw McCain on Christmas Day, he stood next to McCain and silently drew a cross in the dirt with his foot[60] (decades later, McCain would relate this Good Samaritan story during his presidential campaigns, as a testament to faith and humanity[61][62]).

On Christmas Eve 1968 [COINCIDENTLY, THE DATE UPON WHICH KERRY'S CAMBODIAN FANTASY WAS "SEARED, SEARED" INTO HIS MEMORY - RELIAPUNDIT] , a church service for the POWs was staged for photographers and film cameras; McCain defied North Vietnamese instructions to be quiet, speaking out details of his treatment then shouting "Fu-u-u-u-ck you, you son of a bitch!" and giving the finger whenever a camera was pointed at him.[63]

McCain refused to meet with various anti-war peace groups coming to Hanoi, such as those led by David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, and Rennie Davis, not wanting to give either them or the North Vietnamese a propaganda victory based on his connection to his father.[47]
EVEN AT SEVEN DECADES, MCCAIN IS TEN TIMES THE MAN OBAMA WILL EVER BE.

GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE: RELIAPUNDIT AND JONAH GOLDBERG

JONAH TODAY (AT THE CORNER AND HIS BIGTIME SYNDICATED COLUMN):
Most of the criticisms aimed at McCain can be directed at President Bush himself.

... Campaign-finance reform is a great example... George W. Bush. The president signed the McCain-Feingold bill ...

Amnesty for illegal immigrants? To be sure, McCain was a big player last year in pushing legislation many on the right detest. But the biggest player of all was, again, Bush.

... Didn't McCain say something about Justice Samuel Alito being too conservative? they ask. Well, didn't Bush's instincts guide him to naming White House insider Harriet Miers before conservatives revolted and forced him to choose again?

...President Bush who pushed through the biggest expansion of the welfare state since the Great Society with his prescription drug benefit — a plan McCain opposed and promises to scale back.
RELIAPUNDIT - LAST WEEK:
YA SEE: GW BUSH IS A LIB:

* HE WAS FOR AMNESTY.
* HE WAS FOR MIERS.
* HE PUSHED FOR AND WON THE LARGEST EXPANSION OF MEDICARE SINCE LBJ.
* HE PUSHED FOR AND WON THE LARGEST EXPANSION OF EDUCATION SPENDING EVER.
* HE PUSHED FOR AND WON THE MOST MONEY FOR AFRICA EVER.
* HE PUSHED FOR AND WON THE MOST MONEY FOR AIDS - AN STD - THAN EVER.
* AT LEAST HE GOT THE WAR RIGHT.

YUP: LIKE MCCAIN, DUBYA IS A LIB.

MCCAIN IS JUST A LITTLE MORE OF A DEFICIT HAWK AND A TIGHT-WAD.
IN CASE YOU THINK I'M BEING AND EGOTIST BY POINTING THE SIMILARITY OF HIS RECENT POST TO MY OLDER ONE, LET ME POINT OUT THAT JONAH HIMSELF DID THE SAME THING TODAY:

Not Quite Just In [Jonah Goldberg]

From the great minds think alike dept.

Cal Thomas opens his column today: "This just in: Ronald Reagan is dead and he's not coming back."

Here's how I opened mine, back in October: "Ronald Reagan is dead, and he’s not coming back."

  • MY UNDERLYING POINT IS TWO-FOLD: WE HAVEN'T HAD A CONSERVATIVE PRESIDENT SINCE REAGAN.
  • AND MCCAIN IS ONLY SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT OF BUSH.
  • TOO BAD THERE ISN'T GONNA BE A CONSERVATIVE AT THE TOP OF ANY TICKET AGAIN THIS FALL.
  • THIS FACT MAY DISHEARTEN GOP VOTERS AND HAND THE WHITE HOUSE TO THE COMMIE DOVES.

WHO WILL OUR ENEMIES FEAR MORE, OBAMA/HILLARY OR MCCAIN?

MACHIAVELLI: It is more important to be feared than loved, (Prince, ch. 18).

Our enemies - and our rivals and competitors would PREFER Obama or Hillary to McCain.

McCain is tougher than nails. He survived 5 years as a POW - under horrendous conditions and with torture - and YEARS of solitary.

More recently, when his campaigned collapsed (after his shamnesty fiasco) he kept fighting. He fought all the way back to win the nomination.

He fought for years for McCain-Feingold. I hate it, But BUSH signed it into law; (if Bush had vetoed it it would've died; I blame Bush).

McCain is one tough SOB.

Think about it.

Do you want a crybaby like Hillary or a sweet-talking novice like Obama?

Our enemies do.

More HERE and HERE.

MORE PROOF THAT GEORGE DUBYA BUSH IS A LIBERAL: FOR THE FIRST TIME WINCE WW2, FED JOBS OUTGREW PRIVATE SECTOR

NYTIMES:
George W. Bush is in line to be the first president since World War II to preside over an economy in which federal government employment rose more rapidly than employment in the private sector.
YA SEE: GW BUSH IS A LIB:
  • HE WAS FOR AMNESTY.
  • HE WAS FOR MIERS.
  • HE PUSHED FOR AND WON THE LARGEST EXPANSION OF MEDICARE SINCE LBJ.
  • HE PUSHED FOR AND WON THE LARGEST EXPANSION OF EDUCATION SPENDING EVER.
  • HE PUSHED FOR AND WON THE MOST MONEY FOR AFRICA EVER.
  • HE PUSHED FOR AND WON THE MOST MONEY FOR AIDS - AN STD - THAN EVER.
  • AT LEAST HE GOT THE WAR RIGHT.
YUP: LIKE MCCAIN, DUBYA IS A LIB.

MCCAIN IS JUST A LITTLE MORE OF A DEFICIT HAWK AND A TIGHT-WAD.

IF HISTORY IS A GUIDE, THEN MCCAIN WILL WIN IN NOVEMBER

HERE'S AN EXCERPT FROM A POST I WROTE THREE (3) MONTHS AGO:
SINCE THE 1828 JACKSON VERSUS ADAMS CONTEST, EVERY RACE HAS BEEN WON BY THE MORE JACKSONIAN CANDIDATE
We American's want tour president to be an American hero, of sorts.

Someone who embodies what makes this nation great.

Given the choice between an intellectual egghead and a man with common sense, we always choose the man with common sense.

We choose the man who we think is tougher in fight - and will probably win one, rather than someone who might talk his way out of one.

We prefer Andrew Jackson's stature to John Quincy Adams' weightiness.

[NOTE: EV EN IN 1824, JACKSON WON A PLURALITY IN BOTH THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE AND THE POPULAR VOTE.]
  • We prefer Ike's leadership to Adlai's erudition - his wonkiness.
  • Truman's plain talking to Dewey's East Coast Republican urbanity.
  • JFK's vim and vigor and bellicosity was preferred over Nixon's seeming weakness & sickliness - (because of their appearance on the first Presidential TV debate).
  • Dubya was more likable, authentic, raw and rumpled than either Gore or Kerry.
  • LBJ - a deal-making cowboy - was liked more than Goldwater, an ideologue.
  • FDR was a cripple whose ability to surmount his handicap with a smile inspired a crippled America.
  • Clinton felt our pain and knew the price of a gallon of milk. GHW Bush was a blue-blood at sea.
  • Lincoln was born in a log cabin and chopped wood.
And so on.

Nearly every single race has been one by the more natural man. The man of the people. The more common man.

So what does this tell us about 2008?

Well, obviously McCain, Fred and Huckabee a re the most Jacksonian on the GOP side. Rudy's okay, too. Mitt's big problem is that he seems too slick, too smooth, too smart. He can win the nomination, but - unless he can loosen up - he could lose the general election.

AND ON THE DEMOCRAT SIDE? I don't see one single solitary Jacksonian. Maybe Biden or Richardson - only it's difficult to seem Jacksonian when you've calling for retreat from Iraq for the past couple of years...

I guess I'm saying that right now - based on who is in the race right now - I'd bet that the race is in the bag for the GOP.
I REITERATED IT FOUR (4) WEEKS AGO:
MCCAIN IS THE MOST JACKSONIAN OF THE CANDIDATES, AND THE MOST JACKSONIAN ONE USUALLY WINS.

(I PREFER MITT, BUT LET'S FACE IT: HE'S MORE LIKE JQ ADAMS THAN JACKSON.)

NOTE:

THIS BODES WELL FOR THE GENERAL ELECTION:

VIRILE, STRAIGHT-TALKING MCCAIN WOULD KICK HILLARY'S AND OBAMA'S FANCY PANSIE ASSES.
REPEAT:
Given the choice between a self-made man with common sense who speaks plainly and an intellectual egghead, Americans always choose the man with common sense.

We choose a man who we feel will be tougher in a fight - and will probably win it, rather than someone who might talk his way out of a fight.

We always prefer Andrew Jackson's toughness and plainness to John Quincy Adams' intellectualness.

THAT'S WHY MCCAIN WILL KICK-ASS AGAINST HILLARY AND/OR OBAMA - NO MATTER WHICH RETIRED GENERAL THEY PICK AS THEIR VEEP.

JUST A REMINDER: MCCAIN WAS HELD IN CAPTIVITY BY THE VIETNAMESE LONGER THAN OBAMA HAS SERVED IN THE SENATE.

  • JUST A REMINDER: MCCAIN WAS HELD IN CAPTIVITY BY THE NORTH VIETNAMESE MARXIST SC*M LONGER THAN OBAMA HAS SERVED IN THE SENATE.
  • IT GETS WORSE: MCCAIN WAS HELD IN SOLITARY FOR ALMOST AS LONG AS OBAMA HAS SERVED IN THE SENATE.
  • OBAMA ISN'T FIT TO WIPE MCCAIN'S... ER UM... BROW - IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. (AND I DON'T EVEN LIKE MCCAIN!)
  • BUT I DISLIKE OBAMA MORE.
  • COME TO THINK OF IT, MAYBE WIPING MCCAIN'S... ER UM... BROW, IS ALL OBAMA IS FIT FOR!

The hysteria formerly known as global warming

Unremarked upon by the media -- especially as they are co-conspirators in the scam -- is the rebranding of global warming as Climate Change™.

I guess that's what's required as China, South America, central Asia and Antarctica are all experiencing record-setting deep freezes.

Of course, Barack Obama and John McCain are now battling over who can dampen the economy more in order to control the climate.

Meanwhile, the world's scientists are now turning their attention to the issue of global cooling. Anyone need a used copy of An Inconvenient Truth?

REPRISE: THAT MCCAIN LETTER TO OBAMA

Many hive posted on the SCATHING and SARCASTIC attack letter McCain sent to Obama a few years back - because it may very well be an omen of things to come -- if the race comes down to McCain versus Obama.

THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS posted on this letter AT THE TIME (February 2006 - A TIME FEW OTHERS WERE STILL PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO OBAMA) - and AGAIN in a post in December 2, 2006 - EXCERPT:
EXACTLY WHAT KIND OF MAN IS BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA, JR?

Barack Hussein Obama Jr. - the junior, 1st-term Senator from Illinois is a dishonorable and untrustworthy man. Here's why:
After graduating from Harvard Law, the then utterly unknown Obama was contacted by a bright aggressive NYC literary agent who thought - because of Obama's mixed heritage and modest background - BHO Jr might have an interesting story to tell. They signed a contract. After much work, the agent sold Obama Jr's book. It was Obama Jr's first.

After Obama Jr's pretty and pretty well-received convention speech in 2004 - (and before he was elected to the Senate) - he broke this contract with this agent, (the one who picked him up out of nowhere and got him his first book deal), in order to sign with a bigger agent, (to whom he was introduced by perjurer Bill Clinton).

Instead of being loyal to the agent who helped put him on the map, he dumped her the first chance he got, and jumped on to the roster of a bigger bigshot - who didn't have to break a sweat in order to sell Obama Jr's SECOND book! (Barack Hussein Obama Jr. eventually agreed to a settlement for breaking his contract with his first agent.)
Personal behavior like this reveals a lot; it reveals that in Barack Hussein Obama Jr's world, trust and honor mean NOTHING.

Which is exactly what McCain's wrote of Barack Hussein Obama Jr, not too long ago.

SURE: Barack Hussein Obama Jr. does have a nice voice, and he's very loquacious. He may even seem charming to some. Nice qualities all. Essential, too, if you want a career as a singer or a game show host. But being president requires more. More than Barack Hussein Obama Junior has. It matters not what his name is; it matters only that he possess the right stuff. Obama does not.
Obama is unfit for the office based on his poor character.

HERE'S THAT LETTER:
Dear Senator Obama:

I would like to apologize to you for assuming that your private assurances to me regarding your desire to cooperate in our efforts to negotiate bipartisan lobbying reform legislation were sincere. When you approached me and insisted that despite your leadership’s preference to use the issue to gain a political advantage in the 2006 elections, you were personally committed to achieving a result that would reflect credit on the entire Senate and offer the country a better example of political leadership, I concluded your professed concern for the institution and the public interest was genuine and admirable.

Thank you for disabusing me of such notions with your letter to me dated February 2, 2006, which explained your decision to withdraw from our bipartisan discussions.

I’m embarrassed to admit that after all these years in politics I failed to interpret your previous assurances as typical rhetorical gloss routinely used in politics to make self-interested partisan posturing appear more noble.

Again, sorry for the confusion, but please be assured I won’t make the same mistake again. [...]

As I noted, I initially believed you shared that goal. But I understand how important the opportunity to lead your party’s effort to exploit this issue must seem to a freshman Senator, and I hold no hard feelings over your earlier disingenuousness.

Again, I have been around long enough to appreciate that in politics the public interest isn’t always a priority for every one of us. Good luck to you, Senator.

Sincerely, John McCain United States Senate

DID BUSH AND MCCAIN MAKE A DEAL IN 2004?

After turning down Kerry's VP offer , McCain wholeheartedly embraced GW Bush, and campaigned his ass off for Dubya; they even hugged in public numerous times.

I think they made a deal: in exchange for McCain's support in 2004, Bush promised he'd do whatever he could BEHIND THE SCENES to help McCain - and the Bush Machine came through in FLORIDA, where McCain essentially clinched the nomination.

McCain and Dubya are both liberals: they both favored amnesty, for example - AND BUSH SIGNED MCCAIN-FEINGOLD. McCain may be tougher on the spending side, and Bush a better tax-cutter. But they're essentially BOTH libs, with McCain being the more liberal of the two.

Anyhow it just seems to me that the GOP machine always wanted McCain and, well er um.... now we got 'em.

Obama and Hilary are worse - though my final decision will come down to who McCain picks.

I have posted before that I think he MUST pick a YOUNG and VERY CONSERVATIVE Southerner. Fred is WAY too old. Demint or Frist or Coburn. Or non-southerner... MITT! (Though I agree with a commenter here, that Mitt would maker GREAT Chairman for the GOP!)

If McCain doesn't pick a true conservative, then I will vote "present" on the presidential line come this Fall.

MCCAIN'S ADVANCED AGE AND POOR HEALTH MAKE HIM VERY RISKY: MCCAIN'S OWN CAMPAIGN THOUGHT HE MIGHT NOT LIVE TO PAYBACK A LOAN

WASHINGTON POST:
By last November, John McCain's presidential campaign was broke. To survive, he offered his fundraising lists as collateral for a $3 million line of credit from a local bank. But obtaining the loan required an unusual extra step: He had to take out a special life insurance policy in case he did not survive the campaign.

... Because McCain would have to be alive to give the fundraising lists their value, Potter said, the campaign took out the insurance policy on him.
BOTTOM-LINE: IF MCCAIN'S OWN CAMPAIGN AND THE BANK FELT THAT MCCAIN'S ADVANCED AGE AND ILL-HEALTH MADE HIM TOO RISKY FOR A BANK LOAN, THEN HE'S TOO RISKY FOR THE WHITE HOUSE.
