Baby Boy Blues

A new baby boy will soon be here!
His parents are super sweet and daddy is a Blues musician.
What better color for the 'lil one than blue?!
Mom and dad like that color too!

I knitted up a snuggle sack and matching hat.
I'm giving it to them with a cute little onesie and adorable striped PJ's.

It's knitted with Caron Simply Soft yarn.  So, it will be easy care...washer and drier!
I made this snuggle set a bit bigger than the ones I've made in the past.  I'm hoping it will be a sure fit and be usable a bit longer.  The finished size of the snuggle sack is about 10" wide by 18" long.

For details on the pattern and how I made it, you can visit me on Ravelry.

More Snuggles

Snuggle sacks are so great that I think every baby should have one.
I knitted one a few weeks ago for a baby boy.  Last week,
I knitted up another one for a baby girl who's expected to be born in about a month.

What's a snuggle sack gift without some cute little onesies to match?!
It was hard to find baby clothes with the right green.
Just about everything I found with green had a neon, yellowy green.
I was about to give up when I finally found this adorable little set.
There's a little pink one that has tiny green leaves that tie into the snuggle sack...

There's a little gray one with tiny green leaves...

And, there are two with polka dots.

I ran out of time to make a matching hat.  But, I think the baby will will be warm and cozy
with long sleeves and the soft snuggle sack.

I got it done just in time for the shower on Saturday.

I'm not sure if the mommy-to-be had ever seen a snuggle sack
but she loved it and was thrilled to receive something hand made.
The only other thing she received that was handmade was a lacy,
crochet blanket my mom made for the baby.  It was gorgeous!
It was round, lacy, delicate, and a soft lavender/purple.
I wish I'd been able to get photos of it.
Mom-to-be loves purple and green.
Hopefully, the colors we chose were exactly what she'd hoped for.

Snuggles

Just finished up a snuggly little set for a baby boy that's soon to be born.
He'll be the first grandchild for one of the ladies in our knit group.

I knitted a little snuggle sack and a matching hat.
And, I found an adorable set of little onesies that not only match the gray yarn but
look how cute the little dinosaurs look peeking out from the top of the snuggle sack.

There are two long sleeve onesies and one with short sleeves.

I knitted the snuggle sack and matching hat with Simply Soft yarn in Grey Heather.
It took about one skein.  I used a size seven, 16" circular needle for the snuggle sack
and size seven double point needles for the hat.

I posted additional notes on how I did it on my Ravelry site.
Just click HERE if you'd like to see them.

I even made a little dinosaur card to go with the gift.

I sure hope they like it and that they didn't already receive
a bunch of these since they know a lot of knitters.

Snuggle Set

I just finished knitting up a little gift set for some friends and their brand new baby girl...

I used Bernat Softee yarn in a pretty pink color called "Soft Peach". It's acrylic but it's soft, pretty and will be easy care. It was very splitty to work with though.

For the baby sack I used size 7, 16" circular needles and cast on 100 stitches. I knit the top 15 rows in a 2x2 rib and then knitted until it measured 14" from the cast on edge. I placed a marker every 10 stitches and used the Owlie Sleep Sack pattern as inspiration for decreasing the bottom. It's a little larger and bigger around than the Owlie Sleep Sack I made a few months ago, in hopes that it will fit a little longer.

I switched to size 5 double point needles for the hat and cast on 60 stitches. I knitted a 2x2 rib for 7 rows and continued knitting until it measured 4 1/2 inches from the cast on edge. For the decrease, I knit 8, knit 2 together and repeated around. I placed markers between each repeat to stay on track. I knit one row. Next, I knit 7, knit 2 together and repeated around. I repeated in this manner until I had 4 stitches between markers and then k2tog all the way around. I stopped when I had a total of six stitches left and ran the tail through all the stitches and snugged it up. I think it might be a bit tall. I probably should have just knit to 4 inches (or less) before I started decreasing. I’ll know when the baby tries it on.

I love this baby sack idea and would have loved this when my daughter was baby. It seems like a baby would feel very snuggly and comfy in one of these. I love the pink of this set. It's so pretty! I hope the recipients like it.

Something Special for Wesley

One of my knit friends is about to have a baby boy...Wesley! I'm so excited for her and her husband! As the special day approaches, we decided to have a little shower for her. I wanted to make something and I wanted it to be unique...something she wouldn't get a dozen of. I searched on Ravelry for just the right pattern and fell in love with the Owlie Sleep Sack. It's so cute and seems like a genious idea! I love the owls!...I've been wanting to make the sweater that has these owls around the neckline.

I made this with a washable, dryable yarn (a must for babies!), Bernat Satin. I think this green is pretty and it might go with the colors they like and chose for the nursery. It took a little less than one skein for the sack. I thought about making an owlie hat but thought that the owls on the sack would be enough. So, I knit up a basic little hat with a rolled edge to match the top of the sack. It was a fun project and oh-so-cute! Here it is with a book inside to make the owls easier to see...

It seems like a baby would feel so safe, snuggly and warm in this little sack and it can't fall open like a blanket could. Here it is without the book...

I also gave them this adorable pair of booties that I bought at a yarn shop. A local lady knits and sells them. It looks like they're made with sock yarn. I love the colors and the shape...

Here's a side view...
