Our Favorite Books: Ox-Cart Man

This book provides a wonderful and simple summary of what seasonal farming life was like back in the 17-1800's I would guess. My kids love to hear this story again and again and there are always lots of questions about why he did this that or the other thing. Additionally, after reading Farmer Boy the kids often refer to it as we read the Ox-Cart Man. There is absolutely nothing objectionable in this book for even the most conservative family to raise an eyebrow at. We give this book 14 big thumbs up! This book is a part of several book lists and a must have for a non-twaddle reading library.

What books does your family like? We'd love to know because we love to read a good book.

Blessings!

Miss Rumphius

"You must do something to make the world more beautiful."

Miss Rumphius travels all over the world and has many wonderful adventures. She eventually retires to a home by the sea. When she retires she sets to work on doing the one thing her Grandpa asked her to do which was to make the world more beautiful, and she does. I guess I hope my kiddos can do the same. We found this book on the Ambleside Online K list all of our children love to listen to this book.

We really enjoy this book and I think you will to. Happy reading!

Our Favorite Books - Runaway Bunny

Another family favorite is The Runaway Bunny.  This was a big favorite of Bullet and Sugar Pie. It's about a baby bunny that tells it's Mama that it is going to run away and the Mama bunny that tells her baby she will run after him no matter where he goes. This is such a sweet story it cannot help buy cement a feeling of safety in a child's heart as you read about a Mama that will pursue her child no matter where he goes! It is beautifully written and illustrated. While reading the children are able to actively participate as they look for the sometimes hidden bunnies on each page.
