How to Have Healthier Hair for the New Year

My hair is TRASH.

Hahahah.  What a way to call my own hair right?  I am honest.  My hair is one of my concern since I was a teenager.  I remembered saving up my allowance to buy hair care products.

I was born with unhealthy hair.  Kinky texture, dry and brittle.

So I spent my whole life taking care of it to look as decent as today.  Whatever you see today - even if it's still dry - is the best of my hair's ability! :P

So to those who want to know what I've been doing - or using, here are some of my top products that I have purchased and repurchased.

Healthy hair starts with healthy roots.

I seem to have thick hair, but you are definitely tricked by the illusion of thick hair!  I have a lot of hairfall and my super patient husband is already complaining!

"Have your scalp checked and use something!!!" - yup!  That's from him!

I did purchased a lot of hair thickening products, a lot of them are greasy, and worst, smells super bad!  SO obviously, I got lazy and did not even bother to do something about it.

Thankfully, I discovered Hairreve Hair Thickening Serum - when the brand says Hair Rescue, well, it is true!  I have a huge blob of "thinning hair area" making my hair looks thicker on one side and super thin on another side.  I used this spritz bottle after every shower and spritz all over my scalp and massage.

Can I tell you a secret?  I was even trying to save this product so I only spritz (sometimes) on the thinning hair area and I can't seem to find that area anymore after finishing up the whole body!  I was amazed!!!!

Best of all, the product is NON-greasy, smells SUPER GOOD and best of all IT WORKED.  It really worked!

Strengthen your Hair
Especially when you love to use styling tools!  The constant blowdry, curling, straightening will put a huge toll to your hair.  I find my hair to be more brittle when I was trying out different hairstyles using various hair tools!

So today, I can't seem to use any heat styling tools without protecting it with a product.

Hair Care Tips at Home

My hair?

Sensitized, dry, frizzy and unmanageable.  It has been like that for the whole period of pandemic because I can’t go to a salon to have my hair treated.  After a year plus of struggling with tangled and hard to manage hair (especially after shower), I’ve decided to do something to keep my hair, and my sanity, in place!

Hair care tips at home

This tutorial looks tedious and parang ang daming products! BUT, trust me, I saw better hair results in a week’s time!

Haircare is a Must!

Products used:
@yvesrocherph Anti-Frizz Serum for detangling
@kerastase_official resistence Cream for heat protectant
* Kérastase Resistance Extentioniste Sérum for scalp care
@prostylefuwarie_ph Hair Mist Straight (check out how I apply this!)
* Kerastase Discipline Oleo Relax Oil (to seal the shine)

Hair care tips at home

I have to remind you to use the right hair tools!  Wide-toothed comb for wet hair.  Once your hair is almost dry, you can use a Boar Brush to brush and hair will looks shinier and fuller!

Easy Beach Waves!

Hi AMW Friends!

At this point of writing, I already chopped 4 inches off my hair but I am not sad about it!  This, for the record, is my longest hair SINCE BIRTH!  The pandemic really made me experience such length and instead of whining about it, I’ve enjoyed learning how to style my hair by creating various curls and looks!

The best and easiest curls for such hair length is the beach waves to be honest!  I had a very hard time using a curling iron or flat iron (to curl) because of the hair length so yes, if you have long hair like I do, go for te beach waves curler like the ones I reviewed from CKeyin !  It is the easiest I swear!

Now if you don’t have that and you own a clampless hair styling tool, that’s another way you can easily do beach waves!  The clampless tool I used is from Herstyler and I bought it at Beautymnl.com.

The curls aren’t perfect, just messily-good!  The way I like it!  I dislike curls that look so made-up and so….gradeschool-ish?

Please watch my quick IG Reel below and don’t forget to use heat protectant products!

ENJOY Watching!  Share to me your favorite curls!

Super Easy Hairstyle Technique (For All Hair Lengths!)

Check this out to all who said: "I can't fix my own hair!".

Well it's time you try because I have always been on a lookout for the simplest method for YOU to be able to style your hair.

This is not a perfect one but a "good enough" one to make you look and feel good almost instantly!

And no, you don't have to have the same hair length as mine!  You can even have short do's and do the same trick!  Even if your hair is "shaved" at the back, you can even just style the "crown" of your hair for extra bounce.

If you don't get or understand what I'm trying to say.....I have a quick 3 minute video for you to watch!

Enjoy and stay safe!

P.S. I used Kerastase Oleo Relax Oil (available locally at hairmnl.com) at the last part of the video because it makes my hair looks shiny after styling!  You can use any hair oil you have available at home.

Hairstyle Tutorial: Big Curls (Korean Hairstyle)

I follow a lot of Korean Hairstylists in IG and wished to have them cut my hair because I love their trending hairstyle.

I studied haircutting and learned a few tricks on hairstyling during my younger years and when I was actively doing Bridal.  Equipped with that knowledge, I've decided to experiement my own hair with different hairstyles because I am a Beauty Blogger like that!

I recently got hooked with Korean hairstyles and my love for natural and soft waves remains --- I've decided to create this romantic hairstyle using my 10-year plus old Remington 1.5 inch Curling Iron.

This was the result!

Subtle Waves Hairstyle #AMWIGtv

This has been my go-to look instead of the usual curls or beach waves, I guess I got lazier by the minute or busier for me to be able to do tedious curls!

This, my friend is the easiest hairstyle to achieve, you only need a flat iron and if you don't have one, a big curler would be okay!

Enjoy watching and I hope you LIKE and SUBSCRIBE on my channel, it's nothing fancy, I am still trying to understand what Video Editing is but hang in there, we'll get there! SOMEDAY :D

My HairMNL Experience

Before I heard about HairMNL.com , I purchase my favorite Kerastase products inside my favorite salons!  Truth be told, there are many times I find it such hassle to go to a mall just to purchase my favorite shampoo, conditioner and hair treatment!  So when I found out about HairMNL website, I am super ecstatic because I can easily repurchase my favorite hair products at the comforts of my home.

Yes, you heard that right, professional salon care products accessible with expert hair and scalp care advise all done online for FREE!

I'm sure a lot of you are asking about the "FREE CONSULTATION" right now, it is done via Facebook Messenger so start off by LIKING them on Facebook.

So I did that consultation and got myself a package with products shown on photo above!

And what I love about the service is that, I got the curated products meant specifically for my hair and I have extra notes on product description and how to use them!

I have been using Kerastase products ever since I started Blogging which was 12 years ago, there are so many times I tried to read instructions but I never get to really understand the product usage and product description by just reading the back of the bottle.  With HairMNL, I get everything set out straight!  I knew what each product was meant for and how to use it to achieve #hairgoals !

5-Minutes (or less!) Hairstyle Video-torial

So I actually do a lot of makeup, skincare and haircare tutorials on my Instagram stories.  I call these #AMWIgStories and some of the most requested ones I put it up on IG Stories.  So if you have Instagram account, do follow me there #ShamelessPlug

I recently shared a super quick, 5-minutes or less hairstyle tutorial and alot have been asking me to post it on my blog because they want to easily look back with just a few clicks on the computer rather than scrolling and finding this particular video on IG TV.

Your wish is my command!  I shared it here!  My apology for a super amateur video but this is just me.....stripped away from glam squeezing some tutorial time while the kiddo is busy eating!

Please let me know if you want me to share some videos here!  Those that I think are worthy to share.  And oh, I do a lot of unboxing on AMW IG stories too so do watch out for that!

Share some love?
A hug?
A smile maybe?

Great day AMW friends!

Wrapping Up My Week + Mini Rant

Disclaimer: Please spare me for the low quality photos as I just uploaded these photos straight from my phone.

I think my week was fruitful (same as every week) but for some reason, I want to wrap my my week with good and bad experiences.

If you are a long-time reader of my blog, you probably knew  how I almost NEVER rant, I am an extremely positive person and I guess that's the reason why I was able to get away with life's stresses with a smile on my face.  But of course, life is not always golden, there are good and bad days and in my case, my day wasn't bad, someone's day was bad maybe.

The highlight of my week is a simple me time with a hair treatment at Teng Roma Salon, S Maison.  I have very dry and sensitized hair, so the  Kérastase Discipline Oléo-Relax treatment + relaxing massage that I got was a great gift to me by God!  Thank you Lord for giving me the extra 1 hour while my son happily plays at the nearby play area.

Update: 5 days after, my hair is still soft and tangle-free, even #yayatab noticed how smooth my hair looks.

Achieve Long and Healthy Hair Easily

My hair story is an open book.
I color it, cut it in crazy layers, style it using all sorts of styling tools and even go on an annual rebond session --- yes, beautiful hair needs a lot of work for me, so if you have insanely beautiful hair without having to spend or do anything --- drop down on your  knees and thank the hair heavens!

As early as Freshman High, I knew that I wanted healthy hair because it is naturally dry, frizzy and "poufy".  I envy my sister's long, straight, shiny hair and wondered how sisters can have such different hair genes!

One of the brand I really invested for my hair is Kerastase --- the brand and I had a loooooong history!  I told myself I'll purchase a Kerastase hair treatment when I got my first salary but that didn't happen --- becuase Mr. AMW (then boyfriend) was the one who bought it for me as gift!  Yes, our gift-giving does not circulate only on chocolates and flowers, Mr. AMW knew me too well to gift me such because he knew this is worth more than flowers and chocolates #RealTalk

I have experimented a lot of hair color for the past years and I realized that my hair has been going through all those stress, it doesn't grow as fast as it did several years back.  So it was perfect timing when Kerastase launched their Kerastase Resistance Extentioniste range.

This is the first hair program designed to optimize and reinforce the length of damaged hair.

AMW Reviews: Kerastase Cristalliste Lumiere Liquide

Good morning AMW Friends!  I know I've blogged so much about Kerastase hair products as I've always been a fan of the brand even way back before blogging!  I have always been a fan of their hair masques and I'm happy to announce that most of the experience with them is great!  As for serums, I've been very keen on finding lightweight versions and so far, most Kerastase serums are lightweight but I never thought I'd find something lighter!

AMW Reviews: Kerastase Resistance Force Architecte

Last Saturday of the month of February!  I can't believe my 34th birthday is coming up soon!  Well, I've got nothing more to ask for my birthday but for the safety delivery of Baby AMW!  He's definitely God's greatest gift to us!

Remember the Launch of Kerastase Resistance Force Architecte?  (Refresh your mind by clicking HERE).  Gosh, I just realized it was exactly a year ago!  I have been a long time Kerastase user as I vouched myself I'll spend a little bit more for my hair as I've been treating my hair quite badly with all those heating tools!  I use blow dryer, flat irons and curling irons on a regular basis and if my hair can talk, they're probably saying: "#$*@&!@)" to me right now!  *laughs*

Since I like to rotate my shampoo, masque and serum usage, I've finally hit the pan with both the Bain Force Architecte Shampoo and the Masque Force Architecte (Masque).  I'm halfway done with the serum so I'm definitely ready to share my thoughts on my experience using this line which is meant for hair with erosion level 3 and 4.  If the numbering is foreign for you, let's just say, this line is made for hair that are SUPER damaged from chemical treatment and heating tools!

Let's start with...

Kerastase Resistance Bain Force Architecte
(Shampoo)
 250ml for Php1,485 (approx $34.50)
 Ingredients:

Pros
  • Smells great!
  • Hair feels lighter and easier to manage.
  • Doesn't leave oily or greasy residue.
  • Hair strands feel stronger after a month usage.
  • No dandruff no scalp irritations occur.
Cons
  • Price
  • Super dry/chemically-treated hair may still need the extra help of a conditioner after shampooing.

Tips
  • Massage product only hair and leave it for a couple of minutes before you lather.
  • Follow up with a conditioner of choice and apply from mid-shaft of hair down to the ends.
  • Once signs of irritations occur, stop usage immediately.

Kerastase Resistance Masque Force Architecte
(Hair Masque)
200ml for Php2,227 (approx $51.80)

 Ingredients:

Pros
  • Smells exactly the same as the shampoo.  Smells heavenly.
  • Though it felt nothing after wash, hair feels soft, smooth and easy to comb while blow drying.
  • Dryness and frizzy hair were dramatically lessened.
Cons
  • Doesn't feel as rich or thick as that of regular hair masque.  It is very difficult to "feel" that the right amount have been applied on hair!
  • Price
Tips
  • Apply a good amount of product on scalp and hair, gently massage and leave it for at least 10-15 minutes.
  • It is much better to do this treatment at least once a week for sensitized hair.
  • Best applied on damp hair leaving it for a couple of minutes with a shower cap or towel.
Kerastase Resistance Fibre Architecte
(Hair serum)
30ml for Php1,860 (approx $43.25)

 Ingredients:

Unique packaging of Fibre Architect.  2 types of serum come out at the same time.

Pros
  • Scent is stronger than that of the shampoo and masque.  Could be a pro to some or con to others.
  • Doesn't weigh down hair.
  • Never feels oily or greasy.
  • Gets absorbed into the hair shaft easily leaving hair soft and easy to manage.
  • Hair condition improves with constant usage.
  • Protects the hair from constant styling.
Cons
  • Price
Tips
  • Best applied on damp hair prior to blow drying.
  • Massage a dime size amount of product on your hand and spread product directly on damp hair.  Do not apply product on the roots as it may weigh down your hair.
Overall, I originally thought the Nutri Thermique line is my favorite but this jumps up to my number one spot for Kerastase products!  I haven't used a whole lot but his line is my favorite for now as all the products I used didn't give me the allergies or dandruff that I get on most shampoos.  Aside from that, after finishing up both products (Shampoo and Masque) I can definitely feel the improvement of my hair as I don't get to treat my hair at salon due to pregnancy!  I'm glad I have the right type of hair products to help me ease through ugly hair due to changing hormones!

Have you finally tried any Kerastase products? If yes, what particular line?  Do you think it's worth the price you paid?

AMW Reports: Kerastase Chroma Captive Launch

I put this photo up on "Instagram" and said: "K for Keith!"

Don't you just love this table centerpiece?  It's not the usual floral vases or pots but it's a huge K shaped and designed with red petals!  Obviously, "K" is not for Keith but Kerastase!

Kerastase has always been termed "The Best Luxury Hair Care".  When I visit the salon, most of the time, I was advised to undergo Kerastase treatment to liven up my dull, dry and super sensitized hair!

To learn more about the most recent and successful hair care range for color-treated hair, we were invited last Tuesday at the 3rd floor of W Tower, Global City Taguig.

Eureka Moment: Some Recent Discoveries

Happy Tuesday AMW friends!  How was your morning?  Are you energized?  Tired?  Sleepy?

If you're not in a good mood today, well I hope my post will lift your mood at least a notch!  I will share to you some of my recent and not-so-recent discoveries that made a huge difference in my boring life! :P  These are some of the "AMW Secrets To Success"  *laughs*  Wow, that sounds like a book!  But on a serious note, I'll be sharing some of the products that probably meant nothing to you or to me (at first) but meant the world to me today!

1. Boob Bib
Last year, I have a makeup client who came all the way from Cebu to attend a wedding, she booked my services and we emailed each other a couple of times prior to that "gig" day.  On that day, I was surprised when she handed me a gift (such a sweetheart)!  She told me I "may" need this!

Well, "may need" is an understatement!

Showing your cleavage maybe sexy but there are moments when boobs or cleavage aren't even required!  (Sorry guys!  It's true!) :P  Let's say, if you work as a school teacher, going for a job interview, attending a very important meeting etc...Smart dressing gives a good impression!

I own gazillion of tubes but at times, these could get uncomfortable especially during summer!

The Boob Bib comes in 3 basic colors ---
black, white and cream/beige

A super simple product!  With just a tiny piece of cloth, garter and buttons, you get yourself a Boob Bib!

All you need to do is to attach the adjustable garter to your bra straps!

Voila!  You got "your world" under control!  *laughs*

Okay, I tried researching on the brand but can't seem to find the site!  I was told by the person who gave these to me that a set of 3 costs around Php140.00-150.00.  You can get them cheaper at Divisoria but the quality isn't as good (I was told).

2. Kerastase Specifique Bain Exfoliant Hydratant
Let's talk about my hair!  My hair seems to be getting some compliments lately! But, before you think how it gets to my head, well, I spend time and money on it!  *laughs*  I'm not born with it for sure!

Bad hair days AMW style means dandruff!!!  Don't be grossed out, but AMW readers would know by now how much I complain about my dry skin, dry lips and as expected --- dry scalp too!

I have always been a fan of Kerastase products but as seen on my reviews, using Kerastase on a daily basis will give me the itchy scalp!  So today, I'm happy to share that I've finally found a Kerastase product that doesn't give me the "flakes" even with continuous usage!

Kerastase Specifique Bain Exfoliant Hydratant
A shampoo with triple action for dandruff-free hair in 42 days
Php1, 483.00 (approx $34.50)
 3. Benefit Girl Meets Pearl
I can instantly say "no" to a whitening product but I can't seem to resist brightening products!  I am addicted to faking soft, dewy skin that I even created a special post for it! (smile and click HERE)

One of my favorite face primer that gives the "oomph" is from Benefit called "That Gal" Face Primer.  I was able to try on a tiny sample of it first before purchasing a full sized version (review HERE) and I have to agree with my friend Xin, I am addicted to the "click click" sound!

As I was fixing my makeup stash a month ago, I saw the "I'm Glam...Therefore I am" palette which I picked during the opening of Benefit Boutique at Greenbelt 5.  I've tried and used this palette on random days and haven't written a full review on this as I find the set to be okay but NOT "you will lose your sanity if you didn't get this!" type of product!

The product that I tested last was --- the Girl Meets Pearl.  It's not because I was saving the best for last, but I thought it was a product I'm okay to live without!

I was wrong!!!  One fateful "going to an event" day, I applied a good amount of Girl Meets Pearl after moisturizer and went on with my usual foundation routine!  I originally thought the product did NOTHING on my skin but when Angela texted me the night after Nuffnang's The Amazing Spiderman Premiere just  to ask about the foundation I used.  I immediately told her the foundation brand not thinking it was the huge help of Benefit's Girl Meets Pearl that made my skin "glowing" and "healthy"!

On separate occasion, I used Girl Meets Pearl again prior to an application of another brand of foundation, Jheng (during Belofied App event) told me I look more healthy and blooming!  (Why, thank you Jheng! :P)  Another friend also asked if I had "airbrush foundation" on that night!

These compliments shocked and intrigued me!  So when I got home, I took a closer look at my skin and immediately saw the radiance, the magic of Girl Meets Pearl tricking the mind of people to think I had 8 hours of sleep and spent most of my time inside a salon or spa!  Benefit Girl Meets Pearl is my "I feel like crap but doesn't look like one!" product!

I guess, I have to go back to Benefit Boutique to purchase a full-sized version of this!  Jheng, Angela...it's not the foundation nor my skin, now both of you and the rest of the world know my secret!  :P

4. Nivea Baby Lovingly Caring Oil
My top body oil  as of the moment are both expensive and inexpensive!  The Neutrogena and Pevonia Botanica!  If I'm on a budget, I'll go for Neutrogena but on days that I have saved enough for "me" time, I'd go for the latter as it definitely feels lighter and absorbs into the skin faster!

To the rest who have super sensitive skin and probably doesn't have the budget for Pevonia for now, well, guess what?  I've got another new discovery for you!  Nivea Baby Lovingly Caring Oil!  It's made for babies so definitely better for sensitive skin!  Of course, no one could surpass the "dry oil" feel of Pevonia but this is a good alternative for those on a budget!

5. 3M Filtrete Microparticle Aircon Filter
Technically, this doesn't sound or look like a beauty-related product but trust me when I tell you that this product saves me from looking like a witch due to skin allergies!  When I tweeted about my skin allergies, Jill's husband Gary messaged me telling me about our similar skin situation and strongly recommended a product  that helped lessen his allergies big time!

Fast forward to more than a year, box after box, this made a huge difference and my skin is thanking Gary for the recommendation!

3M Filtrete
Php379.75 (approx $8.80)
Ace Hardware

AMW Reports: The Launch of Kerastase Force Architecte

Happy Saturday!  I'm off for a busy day today but I won't be leaving without sharing some of the "highlights of the week" in terms of Beauty.  I was invited to the Launch of Kerastase Force Architecte and my schedule permitted me to attend and take along with me my "nosy personality" and the event did not fail as I learned a lot and will definitely share what I learned here!

Ready?

Green is the color of the range and to make it easier to understand, this range is used to renovate the fibre, strengthen hair from root to end.

After our scrumptious meal, we were all led into a room where Maita Gaerlan, Junior Product Manager of Kerastase Philippines welcomed everyone and introduced us to Kerastase Media Advocate, Ms. Laura Charlton.

Ms. Laura Charlton, Daughter of David of David's Salon gamely talked to us (with a cute mix of Taglish which I find so cute) on how 1 in 4 women has weak hair and suffers from split ends.  Here are the statistics that I took a shot of on how we manage to make our hair suffer on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis!

How damage is damage?
I've always wondered how the damage of hair can be measured and thankfully, it was well explained through the Hair Erosion Scale made by the Kerastase Institute.

Level 1 and 2 - From constant brushing, use of styling tools, etc...

Level 3 and 4 - From chemical treatments like hair coloring, perming, re-bonding etc..

I never really understand why a line of hair care system could have at least 4-6 products and it was well explained during the event.

Fight Levels 1-2 erosion with :
  • Bain de Force 250ml for Php1,200 (approx $28.00)
  • Ciment Anti-Usure 200ml for Php1,698 (approx $39.50)
  • Ciment Thermique 125ml for Php1,538 (approx $35.77)
Fight Levels 3-4 Erosion with:
The newly launched ---
  • Bain Force Architecte 250ml for Php1,485 (approx $34.50)
  • Masque Force Architecte 200ml for Php2,227 (approx $51.80)
  • Fibre Architecte 30ml for Php1,860 (approx $43.25)
**photo taken from Kerastase

The prices are shocking, I tell you, especially if you were just starting up on a job and saving is quite hard to do due to a lot of expenses at home.  I have a tip though, have your hair checked via the Mobile Hair Scanner.  Salons that offers K-services would have this cool, unique gadget to have your hair checked to know the Level of hair erosion.

I think this is the best gadget to date especially since I get really sad when I visit salon who would tell me how "damaged" they think my hair is and that it's technically "no hope" UNLESS I try this certain treatment.

Lying no more!  We were all led inside a room where Laura would personally help us check the situation of our hair.

Seriously, at this point, I am contemplating on running away as I am scared, and embarrassed, to have everyone listen what a huge Level 4 I was!

Would you believe the shock of my face when Ms. Laura told me I'm on Level 2 and probably have a few strands of hair on Level 3?  I let out a huge "O" and nearly argued with her!  I explained to her how I have constantly heard from various salons on how "damaged" my hair was from all the hair coloring and tools I've used!  I guess the constant weekly hair treatment plus the amount of money I have spent on my hair has actually paid off!

Now that I know the "real" situation of my hair, I am bound to target on what my hair needs and save up on the right type of product needed by my hair!

Oh!  If I visit the salon again and a salon staff would comment on my "damaged hair", I will sternly reply: "NO!  I'm a LEVEL 2!  Hmph!" *laughs*

I know a lot of you are scared to shell out a huge amount of money for a product, I suggest you save up the ONE star product you would want to try, purchase it before you go all out with the whole collection!

Happy girls who doesn't have"that level" of a damaged hair!

L-R Phoebe, Jheng and Tara

L-R Phoebe, Me and Tara

Can you guess and tell me what your Hair Erosion Scale could be?
Would you promise to take care of your hair by using the right kind of hair treatment/products?
It's not too late to start taking care of your hair and you don't need to spend a lot!  Again, I did not start purchasing on Kerastase product until I was in my late 20s!  #fact :)
"To avail of the new Force Architecte, visit your nearest Kerastase salon.  For more information, visit the official Kerastase website at www.societedekerastase.com or call the Kerastase hotline (632) 672-7200. "

Have a wonderful weekend!

Stay happy!
