An Alexandria Home

I was thrilled to see this home featured in The Washington Post because it's in Alexandria, Va. (where I live), it's gorgeous, and it uses lots of green! The article has it just right - this is definitely a traditional home with a refreshing youthful twist thanks to the work of designer Kelley Proxmire.

Green has been tapped the "it" color for the season thanks to the latest issue of House Beautiful (which is fantastic - go buy it if you don't get it) and the living room and dining room of this home use the color to absolute perfection. This exact shade of green is what we use in our own living room and dining room and I think it looks grand in all scenarios - it makes a room feel classic but young simultaneously.

And one of my favorite pairings with this apple green as of late is french blue - like the fantastic bathroom of this home. A flush-mount ceiling fixture can look amazing! Who knew?

Kelley Proxmire

I left out one highlight from my post yesterday about the DC Design House preview party, and that is that I met DC designer Kelley Proxmire. I nabbed a moment to introduce myself as Ms. Proxmire walked by me (with the most divine scarf about her neck, I might add) and I told her I wrote a blog so she gave me one of her press CDs with pictures from her room at the house...you might have seen this little darling making the rounds in blogland...

I think Kelley is a master of color. She uses it in ways that are so pleasing to the eye and make such an impact in a room. She uses accessories, fabrics, paint, trim - all to create the most pulled-together, cohesive looks. Kelley mixes looks - old and new, traditional and contemporary - but her spaces are always unified and have that well-thought-out quality that attracts many of us to good design.

Kelley was also recently asked to design the lobby of the DC Design House and my little CD had a picture of that project as well:

I have LOVED digging into the portfolios of some local DC designers, and Kelley's especially...her rooms totally do it for me...classic, colorful and elegant...proving you can have it all. Below are some of my favorite shots from her portfolio - see these and more pictures on her website at www.kelleyinteriordesign.com.

Thursday Crush

Errrm, so I know I typically save my crushes until Friday, but I'm going on a little vacay and thus will be blissfully computer-less for the weekend...so I moved up the post as I've been itchin' to post this picture. Do you know this to-die-for room designed by Kelley Proxmire? It has made the rounds in the blogosphere - as it should, it's so gorgeous.

Proxmire is a DC-area designer with a flair for good uses of Chinoiserie. The bed in this particular room makes me nutty (what is it with beds lately? I've been so focused on them) The canopy treatment is amazing (love the mirror) and I have a feeling that it could make for a good DIY project...like an inverted pelmet box...hmmm...

Proxmire will be one of the designers featured at this year's DC Design House - I did not meet her at the Bare Bones tour, but I caught a glimpse of her concept board and I'm sure the room will be gorgeous - can't wait to see it.

As I said, I'll be out and about this weekend so sadly, I will not be back posting until Tuesday...parting is such sweet sorrow. Have a fabulous weekend...see you Tuesday!
