Russia Military Guide

First Russia had the second best army in the world.
Then Russia had the second best army in Ukraine.

Russia has two loyal allies -
the Army and the Navy,
the rest - will betray and sellout

"Those who do not want to listen to Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov
will have to deal with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.”

"Russia can either be big and strong, or it will cease to exist. This morsel will prove too tasty to resist, our lands and our natural resources will attract too many envious glances, all our capacities will be sought after."
Vladimir Putin, September 30, 2008

Masha Gessen: Russia has never been more powerful, not even during the Soviet period did it have an American president in his pocket.
Jeremy Scahill: Why would the Kremlin want that to be the message for domestic consumption? Basically, taking the same line that many leading Democrats are taking?
Masha Gessen: Because Putin’s regime is essentially post-ideological. It’s all about raw power and how do you create a picture of maximum power other than by claiming Putin controls not only Russia but also the United States and in fact the American president personally, so that makes Putin the most powerful man in the world.
Masha Gessen interview

In recent years, GlobalSecurity.org has placed considerable emphasis on coverage of Russia. There are at least three reasons for this focus:

  1. Under Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, the great power competition has re-emerged with a vengeance, though Russia is punching well above its weight.
  2. Russian online sources have exploded with an abundance of description and analysis that would have been unthinkable in the 20th Century, and that rival online sources on the American military.
  3. Recent improvements in machine language translation have rendered Russian language sources readily accessible to non-linguists.
