Pan Pacific Melbourne: REVIEW

Pac Pacific Melbourne is now officially my go to place when in Melbourne.

And with good reason. It's central, welcoming, the beds are super comfy, the staff are next level lovely, and... on floor number four is where I spent my evenings unwinding from the day, before heading out on round two of exploring this cosmopolitan city.

You know when people ask you where you'd like to live if you didn't live in your city?

For me, my Melbourne has my heart. In fact, trip number two this month is imminent.

A pivotal part of any stay, irrespective of what you are doing while you are there, is the place your rest your weary head, and how it recharges you.

Pan Pacific now represents this for me. And I will be forever recommending it to friends who travel to Melbourne. Or, to my friends who live in Victoria and seek a staycation.

Just look at this beauty:

With expansive views across the banks of the Yarra River, in the heart of Melbourne, this luxury hotel houses 396 guest rooms and suites, the easiest parking facilities I have experienced at a hotel (no honking horns on a busy CBD street), an in-hotel bar and restaurant, and a 24-hour fitness centre.

The beds!

Do you judge a hotel by their beds and their pillow menu? Superficial me does!

It's not so shallow when you think about it - how you rest, and how luxe you feel when you start your day as a visitor to another city sets the tone for the rest of the day.

And Pac Pacific Melbourne does that for you. It rests the soul - and your tired feet - and I really believe it's worth the extra dollars when travelling so you leave feeling like, yes... that was a break, and that WAS a departure from my every day.

Just look at this bathroom view... (I take a bath when I stay at any hotel, and this one is quite literally next level...):

In line with the Aussie tourism slogan of 'Holiday Here This Year', Pan Pacific Melbourne started a campaign last year inviting Melbourne locals, regional residents and interstate travellers alike to enjoy a well-earned break in one of the city’s favourite hotels.

I can see why. It's centrally located to the biggest, and best value luxe shopping experience attached to it: DFO is a stroll away, actually adjacent to the hotel.

So, we are talking Furla to Armani to Cotton On to Windsor Smith. On your doorstep, no cabs or walking far to lug bags of luxury shopping. It's the little things that elevate your travel experience, isn't it?

And... the restaurants! A minute walk away you are surrounded by Melbourne's best: cafes, restaurants, bars, and venues along the South Wharf Promenade, Melbourne casino and the City Centre.

I love to pop in to my eternal Melb fave Thai restaurant Bang Pop, and there are various drinking haunts right next door, so you don't have to go far for a fab feed and drinks. Skip the cab or drive, and have an extra drink, not a worry.

Of course, if you want to go even closer... take the lift to level FOUR inside the hotel!

Here you will find Pacific Club Lounge. Click HERE for more.

It's your private pit stop, with gorgeous views of the city skyline.

It's included in your stay at Pan Pacific Melbourne, and here is what you'll have access to:

  • Pacific Club Lounge is open from Monday to Friday, 6.30am to 9.00pm and Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays, 7:00am to 9:00pm
  • Guests age 12 years old and under are welcome at Pacific Club Lounge before 5.30pm. (Additional charges apply for children between the ages of six to 12 years old. Children below the age of six years old can access the Pacific Club Lounge at no additional charge).
  • Bar services outside of cocktail hour and those not included in club priviledges are chargeable.
  • (*All prices quoted are subject to 10% service charge and 7% government tax).

The large sectioned room gives you the privacy to read the paper and go back and forth on a buffet style brekkie, or enjoy the generous snacks and little plates of delicious morsels like octopus, gnocchi, a cheese board, desserts, and of course drinks. All complimentary, which is a generous part of your stay.

And the food in-house at Pan Pacific Melbourne is incredible, too!

In March 2022, Pan Pacific Melbourne announced the appointment of Deepak Mishra as its new Director of Food & Beverage & Culinary Operations.

David Tonkin, Pan Pacific Hotels Group Cluster General Manager – Melbourne, said of this exciting appointment:

“As Melbourne welcomes back an ever-expanding number of travellers and tourists from both here and abroad, Deepak offers us a wellspring of invaluable – and much needed, experience. He has led culinary teams at some of the industry’s leading hotels right around the world and has a proven track record of delivering innovative and impressive results. He’s the perfect person to redefine and invigorate our food and beverage offering.”

Born on the East coast of India, Deepak trained in classical French cooking, acquiring his professional skills from the Institute of Hotel and Catering Management in India and William Angliss Institute of TAFE/Culinary Academy Melbourne. Moving to Melbourne in the formative stage of his career, Deepak subsequently burnished his skills and culinary repertoire working in some of the world’s most vibrant countries including Singapore, United Arab Emirates and India.

His new role at Pan Pacific Hotels Group’s flagship Australian property marks something of a return to the fold, having previously worked at both the PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport and Singapore’s PARKROYAL Collection on Pickering, now sporting a CV that has spanned across more than two decades.

Recognised for his innovative approach in presenting a diverse globally influenced cuisine infused with local flavours and ingredients, Deepak’s culinary creations are always passionately backed by his mantra of ‘Passion and Perfection’. His menus continue to push the boundaries while celebrating seasonal, local produce. All of this will stand him in good stead as he oversees the ongoing transformation of Pan Pacific Melbourne’s current food and beverage offering.

When you stay, ensure your daily ritual at Pan Pacific includes visiting Dock 37 Bar & Kitchen, where you'll experience Deepak's culinary skills.

And, just look at this beauty!

You can explore the magnificent walk-through wine gantry, which is suspended above the bar, housing an exceptional cellar of over 500 wines. Wine buffs, this place is for you.

The menu offering includes a classic cacio e pepe, a cuttlefish ink pasta, a Gippsland Angus steak, a margherita pizza, and a lovely food partnership with local That's Amore cheese and Australian Artisan Salumi, which manifests with menu items including a locally sourced wagyu bresaola from Western Victorian wagyu cattle, and a delicious fiore di burrata.

Next time we're there, we are trying everything on the menu!

Including the tiramisu, and the handmade tartufo.

I love that they also have a 'feed us Nonna' menu! As an Italian Australian, I'd go for this. It's $65 pp and perfect for you and a buddy - some Italian faves included, with pizza and pasta to share and a cheeky dessert, and more.

Of course, getaways also lend themselves to school holidays, and I hand on heart LOVE nothing more than a hotel stay and exploring my city or a city interstate with my family, or with just my daughter and I.

Shopping and exploring and being silly and ordering room service are our thing when we have a mini stay - we live for it! I can't tell you how fun and bonding the whole experience can be, and next time we are hopping on a plane and doing it in Melbourne at Pan Pacific (again, DFO shopping next door, no jumping on trams or in cabs, perfect!).

Crown Metropol Melbourne: HOTEL REVIEW

The Crown Metropol is the place you stay when you want to be a part of the action is the business end of Melbourne.

As any person not from Melbourne knows, this district is exhibition hall central, and as it turns out it's an ideal spot to rest your work weary head after a big day at events, where you go to regroup and rest and freshen up, before the hitting the town again for some of the very best restaurants within walking distance. Not forgetting of course that some of the most delicious food is right under the Crown Metropol roof.

page1image7664page1image8096

The Crown Metropol has been likened to an 'urban oasis', combines modern accommodation with contemporary service.

It's the 'younger sibling' of Crown Towers and Crown Promenade, with the bold, distinctive, and aesthetically appealing Crown Metropol opening its doors in 2010 and designed by Bates Smart, described as an architectural feat for Melbourne’s landscape.

It houses 658 rooms, making Crown Metropol Melbourne is one of Australia’s largest hotels... but you don't feel like it's a monolith structure, instead the wave-shape design of the building cleverly creates a boutique hotel feel. Love that feeling!

The lobby immediately shows the personality of the hotel - the giant decorative timber balls and the impressive ribbon staircase, the hotel gives an inviting and warm feeling you always hope you get from your home away from home, even if it's for a day or two.

It's located on the corner of Whiteman and Clarendon Streets in Southbank, Crown Metropol and it's only a ten minute walk to the CBD, conveniently joining to the wider Crown Melbourne complex via an undercover sky bridge. And trust me, you will love this when you want to go exploring after a big work day!

European mid-century inspired mod furnishings, art and fittings are complemented with textured fabric sliding screens used to separate the ensuite and stone and bevelled
glass bathroom.

The William Inglis Hotel: REVIEW

The William Inglis Hotel has arrived and she is an absolute beauty!

And as a bona fide city-working slash western-suburbs-dwelling gal, this new destination hub in hospitality ticks all the boxes for Josie's Juice. One, it's out west, in fact 30km from the Sydney CBD, and just 25 minutes from Sydney International Airport. It celebrates racing history and the thoroughbred industry, and is a unique equine themed boutique (but not small!) hotel offering the best in luxurious style and warm hospitality.

It's in the heart of Warwick Farm Racecourse, at 155 Governor Macquarie Drive, Warwick Farm, and the boutique 5 star hotel is named in full as The William Inglis Hotel, MGallery by Sofitel.

Josie's Juice was lucky to be one of 100 VIP invited guests to attend its much anticipated launch event last month (the event took place on January 31),  where media was treated to an absolute luxe 5 start experience - think the pinnacle of luxury with its truly world-class accommodation, warm hospitality, plentiful leisure facilities, and sweeping views of the Warwick Farm racecourse and Liverpool’s riverscape and you have hit jackpot with a  gorgeous venue to stay, play, and eat. (Insider tip: head straight to the rooftop bar for drinks with a view like you've not seen before!)

Developed by thoroughbred horse sales company William Inglis & Son Ltd, the hotel is part of a $140m precinct called Riverside Stables and is the first MGallery by Sofitel to open in Western Sydney.

Here is a video compile of this incredibly gorgeous precinct:

More about the launch event:

Guests were driven by executive transfers to the hotel in the early afternoon of Wednesday January 31, and led on a private tour of the expansive grounds. As dusk fell they ascended to The Chiltern Pool Deck & Bar, where its cabanas and sun loungers overlook 300 acres of greenery, for cocktails, Champagne and canapés – including beef carpaccio, duck breast with quinoa, apricot jam and fermented chilli, and lemony goats cheese with organic honey and beetroot.

Following the last light of sunset and a welcome speech from Inglis MD Mark Webster, guests were led down the eight levels to the beautiful Big Barn nestled amongst the Riverside Stables garden for a rustic, long-table dinner. Within the barns quintessential rural ambience, horse stables and 150-year- old design, guests were served a signature paddock-to-plate menu of local lamb two-ways with pumpkin, heirloom carrots and mint jus, and grilled Atlantic salmon.

After the main course, the evening was concluded in the elegant, old-fashioned whiskey bar 1867 Lounge for local cheeses, petits fours and a tasting of rare whiskies and boutique wines. Those fireplace features were a fantastic feature and kept the room so warm and cosy, it's the perfect spot to kick back and drink red wine all night, really. By the way, 1867 is the year William Inglis and Son was founded.

Guests were then able to end their night in one of the hotel’s 144 luxury rooms, each with its own unique theme and link to a champion racehorse to celebrate Inglis’ racing and thoroughbred history, where they could relax before bed in their personalised bathrobe.

The detail in these rooms was utterly charming and impeccable - think subtle horse motifs and a palette of greys and blues. The bed was one of the most comfy hotel beds we have EVER slept in. As a side note, I am not a hugely horse-y person, though I do love Gigis, but gosh I loved how cohesive and classy the whole theme looked in each room, and throughout. I am calling it early in this review, but I'd stay there in a heartbeat again and again.

The next morning a robust breakfast of local, seasonal ingredients was served up in all-day dining restaurant The Newmarket Room before guests left the rural oasis and returned to the bustle of Sydney. Or just up the road for us!

The breakfast bar set up was so beautiful, so many stylish finishing touches, so neat and clean and such care in every detail (clean and neat in hotels are so important, I think, don't you? I am obsessed with tidy and pristine accomodation, irrespective of how big and lavish the room is).

Here are some more launch highlights, the first shots on the terrace / rooftop at the Chiltern Pool:

And here, the glorious The Big Barn where our media dinner took place. Can you just imagine this for weddings? Especially for people who LOVE horsies (and even if they don't).

It's nestled amongst the Riverside Stables garden, and is rustic meets modern, and modeled from the original Newmarket Barn designed over 150 years ago. It has additional access to the Garden Pavilion, Rose Pavilion and surrounding gardens, allowing for supreme versatility for events. It's fully air-conditioned with access to the latest AV equipment, including television screens, speakers and Wi-fi access plus its own toilets and is wheelchair accessible. And... the best bit... guests can simply check in for the night a few steps away! LOVE.

Guests enjoying launch night dinner inside The Big Barn:

Oh yes, that bar! The 1867 bar:

The beauty of this whole precinct is that you can pick and choose which part of the destination hub you'd like today. Is it the Newmarket Restaurant you're popping in to for brekkie or brunch, or a group dinner? Are you wanting a massage or relax? Or drinks with the girls with a view with a difference? It's really all here (we also like the ample parking right outside, on the same level as the hotel, so you can easily grab your luggage or get someone from the hotel help you - they are so darn friendly here!)

Says the blurb on Newmarket Restaurant (which Josie's Juice was told was booked out for dinner, and for their delicious breakfast within mere days of opening):

Dining at Newmarket Restaurant has a dining philosophy centred on paddock to plate produce; creating a unique, modern menu designed with the comfort of rural soul, a true culinary experience. Newmarket Room is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. Located on the ground floor, Newmarket Room is inspired by the original Newmarket Complex that Inglis operated out of in Randwick for over 100 years; a stunning indoor and alfresco setting overlooking the beautiful gardens of Riverside Stables.

Click on this link for the menu.

At the hotel you will also find Heroic Café, open daily from 7am – 3pm.

The Heroic Café is located on the ground floor of the hotel provides guests with high-quality coffee and café style food. You can chill in the lounge area or grab and go with their express coffee and pre-order options. Josie's Juice thinks it's also a great pitstop between the city and 'burbs route, and vice versa.

When Josie's Juice first arrived, we were shown the huge precinct called the 'Sales Arena'.

This mezzanine level is where the horse viewing rooms are located. These are used as conference or meeting rooms (read more on that below) but during the horse auction they are places where VIPs and buyers can watch the horses on parade. We were told that every horse walks around the stage for one and a half minutes, and so far, they've sold horses ranging from a price tag of from $1000 to a whopping $2.2 million!

The huge space shows how its the ideal space for any corporate, conference or gala style event, a versatile space catering up to 1000 people with a variety of seating options that can cater to theatre, classroom and banquet options. Featuring the latest in audio visual equipment, technology and access to screens and high-speed internet, the Sales Arena has a built in stage and podium which is optimal for presentations. Ideal for AGMs, seminars, conferences or gala events, it's complemented by nine breakout spaces catering from 5 – 30 people and overlooks the Arena venue.

There is also the Garden Pavillion, a stunning, intimate and elegant space for an important event such as a wedding or party or corporate do, with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the gorgeous gardens and access to the Rose Pavillion, where guests can enjoy a unique  alfresco experience.

Located on Level 1 of The William Inglis Hotel, the Grand Armee Meeting room is an ideal space for a smaller meeting or conference. It is equipped with the latest AV technology, Wi-Fi and is air-conditioned. The meeting room can seat 50 in cabaret style or 90 in theatre style. There is also access to The Gallery which features 9 private suites that can be used as break away areas, catering from 5 – 30 pax and overlooking the Arena venue.

More info on their event spaces here: https://www.williaminglis.com.au/conference-and-events/

If you feel you want to experience a spa treatment during your stay, The William Inglis Hotel has that too! The spa, fitness centre and outdoor swimming pool combines up to date technology and techniques, fabulous facilities, premium products and qualified, caring professionals, it can be transformative journey of the senses.

The spa offers a variety of massage and beauty treatments and includes four treatment rooms and a stunning separate bridal suite for that special treatment on your special day. Clever for bridal party stay overs at the hotel. Gift vouchers are available from only $50.

Josie's Juice is keen to trial this next time we visit! Bonus: driving only 15 minutes to a premium spa experience! We are so in.

And finally a history of the Inglis Riverside Stable:
