A competition was organized by RBI for the design of a new weekend retreat, for staff as well as senior executives on a site close to Bhushi Dam in Lonavala.
One of our primary observations of the site was the presence of a pre-determined axis, marked by a series of mature trees. We choose this condition on site - positively as the starting point for our design process.
Besides providing a basic programme that of residential units as well as conferencing facility, the design sought to answer 2 principal questions.
1. How should one build? Interspersing the built forms within existing trees?
2. How to open up a predominantly introverted site, behaving as an island between an existing residential neighborhood and a Navy ground?
