τῶν ὀνομάτων ἑκάστων, ὅτι οὐδὲ αὐτοῖς Ῥωμαίοις τὰ
πολλὰ τῆς πατρίου φωνῆς ἔχεται ἀλλ᾽ ἔστιν ἃ τῆς Ἰβήρων
ἢ Κελτῶν, ἐπεὶ τὰ πράγματα αὐτὰ Κελτικὰ ὄντα
προσέλαβον, εὐδοκιμήσαντος αὐτοῖς ἐν ταῖς μάχαις τοῦ
Κελτῶν ἱππικοῦ.

εἰ γάρ τοι ἐπ᾽ ἄλλῳ τῳ, καὶ ἐπὶ τῷδε
ἄξιοι ἐπαινεῖσθαι Ῥωμαῖοι, ὅτι οὐ τὰ οἰκεῖα καὶ πάτρια
οὕτω τι ἠγάπησαν, ὡς τὰ πανταχόθεν καλὰ ἐπιλεξάμενοι
οἰκεῖα σφίσιν ἐποιήσαντο.

οὕτω τοι εὕροις
ἂν καὶ ὁπλίσεις τινὰς παρ᾽ ἄλλων λαβόντας — καὶ ἤδη
Ῥωμαϊκαὶ ὀνομάζονται, ὅτι κράτιστα Ῥωμαῖοι αὐταῖς
ἐχρήσαντο —, καὶ γυμνάσια στρατιωτικὰπαρ᾽ ἄλλων, καὶ
θρόνους τοὺς τῶν ἀρχόντων καὶ ἐσθῆτα τὴν περιπόρφυρον.
οἳ δὲ καὶ θεοὺς αὐτοὺς ἄλλους παρ᾽ ἄλλων λαβόντες

ὡς οἰκείους σέβουσιν. τὰ γοῦν ἐπ᾽ αὐτοῖς δρώμενα ἐς
τοῦτο ἔτι τὰ μὲν Ἀχαιῶν νόμῳ δρᾶσθαι λέγεται, τὰ δὲ
κοινῷ Ἑλλήνων. δρᾶται δὲ ἔστιν ἃ καὶ Φρύγια: καὶ
γὰρ ἡ Ῥέα αὐτοῖς ἡ Φρυγία τιμᾶται ἐκ Πεσσινοῦντος ἐλθοῦσα,
καὶ τὸ πένθος τὸ ἀμφὶ τῷ Ἄττῃ Φρύγιον ὂν ἐν Ῥώμῃ
πενθεῖται, καὶ τὸ λουτρὸν δ᾽ ἡ Ῥέα, ἀφ᾽ οὗ τοῦ πένθους
λήγει, Φρυγῶν νόμῳ λοῦται.

καὶ μὴν τῶν
νόμων, οὓς ἐν ταῖς δώδεκα δέλτοις τὰ πρῶτα ἐγράψαντο,

ταῦτα πολὺ ἂν ἔργον εἴη ἐπεξιέναι, ὅπως τε ἕκαστα ἔχουσι

τῶν ἱππικῶν ὥρα ἤδη λέγειν.
