Determined suicide.
--Marion Stevens, a seaman on board the Confederate States iron clad Richmond, committed suicide on that vessel on Thursday night last.--He made two attempts to put an end to his life; the first of which was by using a knife on his throat, when he was discovered by some of his mess-mates, who interfered and prevented him from accomplishing his object. Subsequently, however, he seized a pistol belonging to the boat, and putting it against his forehead, discharged it, sending the load through his skull, from the effects of which he died in a few hours afterwards. It is believed that the act was committed in consequence of deep mortification existing in the mind of the deceased at being, some time since, reduced from a lieutenant's position to a private in the ranks on the charge of cowardice.
