Fire.
--Between six and seven o'clock yesterday morning, a fire broke out in J. B. Payne & Co.'s general variety store, on Broad street, near Ninth, but was fortunately discovered in time to be put out before much damage was done to the building. The firm, however, were not so lucky with regard to their stock of goods on hand; for, with what was destroyed by fire and water, consisting of two bales of cotton cloth, cigars and liquors, their loss will amount to over fifteen thousand dollars. Several bottles of liquor were also carried off by the crowd and never returned. The fire was caused from the burning of a foul stove-pipe.
