Northwestern Georgia.

--The Rome Courier, of Saturday, says:

‘ We learn that a considerable a number of Federal soldiers were in Lafayette last Tuesday, also a few in Summerville last Wednesday. They are reported to be in force in the cove. It is said that they have removed the obstructions from Blue Bird Gap. This was probably the object of the force in the cove. While in Summerville the Federals, who were some three or four hundred strong, arrested Dr. C. A. Wheeler and carried him to Alpine, where, he refusing to give them his money, they whipped him until he was compelled to deliver it to save his life.
