The organization of the militia
If the threatened attack of the Yankees produced no other benefit than the complete organization in which the militia finds itself to-day, it would be of great advantage to the city. This organization embraces every man in this city capable of bearing arms. It will be permanent, so that we shall always have a powerful body of troops ready to assemble at the sound of the bell in the very midst of us. They will be drilled constantly, will improve in discipline every day, and will in a short time rival our veterans in the field in everything save experience in the battle-field. In a short time they will be competent to take their place by the side of these veterans.
