City gas Works.
--Complaints having been made on account of the failure to light the street gas lamps at night, it may be as well to state the reason for the omission. The Superintendent has not a sufficient quantity of retorts to generate the requisite quantity. Were the gas lamps lit only for one night, our citizens would have to go in darkness.--The Superintendent can make out to supply private consumers. Measures have been taken to have a number of retorts made. When the job is completed gas in the city lamps and all other places will be abundant; not before.
