Distilleries.
We are overwhelmed with communications on this subject, for which it is impossible for us to make room. The question is before the Legislature. That body is, moreover, possessed of all the facts and arguments bearing upon it, and we leave it to them. We have not space to devote to a voluminous discussion of it. That more corn is consumed in the manufacture of whiskey than ought to be at this time, is a fact. If the Legislature can adopt any plan for curtailing this consumption, it will confer a benefit on the country.--The subject, however, is not free from difficulty. Next to diminishing the quantity drank, is the embarrassment of devising a mode of diminishing the quantity manufactured.
