Provisions for the army.
We had the pleasure last evening of meeting at the Exchange Hotel with one of the heaviest contractors for supplying the Confederate forces with beef and bacon. He speaks in the most encouraging manner of his ability to meet the large contracts his firm has made with the Commissary Department, and says that he has already secured a fair portion of Kentucky hogs, and could triple his number were he only able to send gold into that market. The only difficulty so far encountered in his extensive operations he attributes to the tardiness, no doubt unavoidable, in the transmission of funds to the field of his operations, but this has of late been entirely remedied.
