From Lynchburg.
[special correspondence of the Dispatch.]
Lynchburg, Va., Aug. 26.
We are in a state of suspense and anxiously awaiting to see what turn events will next take.
A rumor prevailed on Saturday of a skirmish, which turned out to be unfounded.
It, however, served to furnish a topic of conversation, as we did not get the Richmond papers on that day in consequence of the failure of cars on the Danville Railroad to connect with those on the South- Side.
This, as a matter of course, was not the fault of the mail arrangements.
But that there is a ‘"screw loose"’ in this department somewhere between this city and Richmond, is evidenced by the fact that the large package of Dispatches sent to your agent in this city frequently fails to come to hand in time, and sometimes falls altogether, as was the case on the 15th inst., and up to this writing the package of Saturday last has not made its appearance.
The Department has been appealed to for a redress of such grievances, and I have reason to believe the officials are exerting themselves to some extent to get affairs straight.
How this will be done, or when it will be done, remains to be seen. O. K.
