--Prior to any one obtaining a position as compositor on the London Times, he must have past an examination showing that he can set at least 40 lines of 56 letters or about 2,240 letters per hour.--The price paid for type-setting is eleven pence per thousand letters, at which rate the compositor can make about five dollars a day.--There are 124 compositors employed, 50 of whom are occupied solely in setting up advertisements.
