Thanksgiving.
--The festival of Thanksgiving was very generally observed in New York and vicinity Thursday. In most of the churches, sermons were preached bearing more or less upon the present aspect of political affairs. A pleasant feature of the festival was the practical form in which the charitable associations dispensed their bounties. Aside from the target companies, and a few groups of fantastical, the streets were remarkably quiet, and the day passed off as decorously as could be decided. A Washington, the sermons touched freely on the distracted condition of the country, with an expression, on all hands, of Union-loving sentiments. To Philadelphia, the Churches were crowded--Christian spurt of conciliation was warmly urged by pastors generally. At the close of the exercises at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the organist struck up the national anthem. "The Star Spangled Banner." The congregation rose and joined in the singing.
